  • I have watched videos and read reviews describing the Aquaclear filters as not restarting after a power outage. Let's see if that is true.

    I also agree. The water level is not to be that low. Keeping the water level at its maximum will allow the AC to restart in case of power outage. Aquaclear…the best filter in the market!!!

    i have modified mine to use intake strainers from a fluval 407 canister filter because they have a check ball in them. when power goes off it doesn't drain back any water, regardless how low your tank gets. i.e. doing water changes , ect. the u-tube, lift tube and the filter stays full so my bio media doesn't get dry, when i plug it back in, it starts instantly. i have pics of how i modified it if you would like

    • @dickrose219
      @dickrose219 2 роки тому +2

      @@hardybryan no flow loss on ac 20 to ac 70. the 407 strainer is designed for up to 383 gph so there is a slight flow loss on the 110. as far as size, the 20,30,and 50 you just cut off the strainer from the inlet tube and press on the new strainer, it's a tight fit, but goes right on. for the 70 you need to come up with a bushing, i used a piece of fluval canister hose end. i can send pics if you like

      @@dickrose219 Thanks. That's so cool. I have so many spare filter parts, but it never occurred to me to use a check valve there. I'm going to give it a try. I'm 90% sure I still have all the parts from my old 404 that died a couple years ago.

    Great video. And even if priming is an issue, these are just incredible filters, you just need to pay closer attention and keep your water high. Right now I'm running a 55 gal and a 60 breader, each with 4 aquaclear 50s (means I'm running about 800 gph on each and turning each tank 13-15 times per hour). On each tank, 2 filters have sponge media all the way to the top, and the other 2 are full of loose bio stones (like you have here). Never have priming issues, they're a breeze to clean, and very quite as long as my water level is high. Only noise is the lids will occasionally rattle but a quick touch and it goes away

  • @jmsadms
    @jmsadms Рік тому +1

    Yes good to know. It's not a problem for a power outage, but it's another step during a water change to remember to fill the filter before plugging back in.
    Also, what I like about the Fluval C Series HOB, is you can remove each media compartment separately and clean one at a time without unplugging it.

    I think it depends on the model of the filter. I've had occasional issues with my AC 30 if I've slacked on top-offs and the water is 1" down or so (can't remember exactly; it's been a while). However, a more frustrating problem is how even if the water level is okay, sometimes the impeller doesn't work right when it restarts. You have to remove the intake tube and jostle the impeller with your finger to get it going.

    • @lkapitan8232
      @lkapitan8232  3 роки тому

      I have also had the same problem and if I remember right it was a worn impeller shaft. Changing out the shaft is a challenge as that thing is in there tight.

    I've been using 3 AC110 on my 125 gallon tank for over 10 years now, never had an issue . Like you said they hold a lot of media . My only complaint about them is the sound, they are too loud
    "Rattling sound" annoying, but they are so damn good at keeping my tank clean and hold tons of media and I use them to polish the water by adding poly fill .
    No hang on the back filter does a better job . I heared the tidal 110 is good . Watched some videos about them and looked into the way they operate, they seem to be well made, might be a good option as well. If one of my AC breaks I might get a tidal to try it . I like the fact that the motor is in the water

      Funny you bring this up as I was going through this with two AC70's, one was quite and one sounded like a train. Turned out it was the impeller shaft, it was old and worn and allowed the impeller to wobble as it spun. Replaced the shaft and now they sound the same. Might want to look at the metal shafts on your AC100's. Checked out your channel, love those cichlids.

    I agree, I keep my water level very near the top, and I never had a power outage issue restarting on my two 110s and one AQ70, so it must be only for people that have low water levels or maybe it also relates to the depth of the intake tube.

    The 110's will refill with a 'full' tank. 70's and 50's have a good shot too, though I doubt they'd pass the 1 inch test. The smaller ones can struggle even with a full tank. I love Aquaclears. They are outstanding filters and I have them on 2 of my 4 tanks right now. But I always make sure SOMETHING, even if it's a sponge, is running that will 100% come back on immediately with the power. This is a legit issue. If you travel even a little frequently, you're likely to have experienced coming home to the water level in the tube just bobbing up and down but not quite getting to the top. And if you have it on ANYTHING but full flow, there is a 0% chance of it self priming even with a full tank. Again, these are great filters, just don't blow off this issue like it's nothing. Trust me, it's not.

    I am an Aquaclear fan. I currently run an AQ70 on my thirty five gallon and an AQ30 on my ten gallon in addition to running several Fluval canisters. What I find is that many times (not every time) that my AQ70 is unplugged the little white plastic impeller becomes unseated and the filter wont restart unless I can manipulate the impeller into place.

    Anyway, I am going to buy another filter like asshole; however, the Aquaclears are great. I almost do not know why I am getting an FX4. Lately, I have been thinking about getting a used one-because I just cannot justify it. My water is crystal clear!

    The best hob on the market. The only thing they could do to improve is put the pump in the tank like the tidal. Best thing about it is all the room for media. Instead of putting bio rings or other ceramics put another 110 sponge in it. The sponge is the perfect ppi for brien bacteria and grows far more bacteria than ceramics and that is true for all the ceramics. Doesn't matter how cheap or expensive sponge is better.

      Your question is losing something in translation, but I will try. A proper aquarium filter contains mechanical, chemical, and biological media. The mechanical media traps fish waste, uneaten food, anything floating in the water. The chemical (typically carbon) removes unwanted organics. Biological media breaks down toxic fish waste (ammonia) into a less toxic form (nitrate). Is that what you are asking?
