There's something anxiety inducing in a game where you have a "make sound" button and don't use it constantly. It's like the video version of popcorn. You're not hungry but you eat it.
i love how the our main character here is just on a casual stroll even when a demon is right behind him. if it was me i'd cycling like i was in the olympics
It's also used interchangeably for graveyards and graves, so I've heard. In this case it could mean any or perhaps all of these definitions. Although I've heard Tuonela as an afterlife is much less terrifying than what's shown here, merely being a quiet place where the dead sleep peacefully for eternity, and it's the only place the dead go, whether they were good or evil in life. It reminds me of one of the first ideas of an afterlife from certain neolithic peoples, where there was one singular afterlife that all the dead shared. I wonder if they're at all related, given that Lithuania, a nearby neighbor of Finland and Estonia, is said to have changed little demographically and linguistically since the time of the proto-indo-europeans.
My theory on this: Before we proceed, the story is centered around finnish mythology. The man committed manslaughter; killed the woman recklessly, without it being his intent. In Finnish mythology, if there was nobody to envisage the actual moment of death, the soul of the deceased was bound to roam about restlessly and haunting could be expected, too. Also in Finnish mythology, the soul of the person disconnects from the body through violence or harm, therefore the soul of the man was released from his body (due to him being harmed by the accident), so he isn't necessarily dead but simply disconnected from his body, allowing the woman to take revenge (since both of their souls were released in the process). The woman was luring the man's soul into Tuonela(Tuonela is the realm of the dead or the Underworld in Finnish mythology), torturing him in the process. When the player finally reached Tuonela, it seemed as if the woman gained total control, which justifies the reason she was luring him to that place. The woman then attempted to proceed with her torture until death said "enough" as she surpassed her limits by bringing a living person's soul into Tuonela to carry on with her torture. The soul was then released thanks to death and was able to escape back to the overworld into his own body, thus waking up. (btw when death said "you do not belong here" it's because the living isn't allowed in Tuonela. Shamans (living humans) were able to enter Tuonela by falling into a trance and tricking the guards)
So it's a allegorical story about a man coming to term with his crime. The ghost woman = his victim obviously. The way she suddenly pops up out of the shadow in her first chase was him tying to justified the sudden, inescapable situation, that it wasn't entirely his fault. The man and his demon car = Him and his car, with the car turned monstrous as it was really his tool for the manslaughter. The ghost cyclists = his view on cyclists in general. The way the game deliberately makes them annoying, often swerving in front of his bike is again, trying to justifiy his own action and victim blaming, that they often gets in the way and endanger everyone. The Skull God = Death itself. The fact the accident did indeed claimed the lives of the woman and not him mirrors the the way it snatch the ghost away and let him leave.
This is a great example of how to convey a story almost entirely through gameplay, cool game. Also, I honestly would love a whole game just centered on PS1-style night biking, the ambience before things get spooky is so nice
I have a similar idea, but instead of night biking, your night jogging. This is based off my own experience when I used to jog during the night. Usually I try to just focus on keeping my breath steady and endure for 3 miles. However, there were some instances that I couldn't help but think that someone could be watching me in the dark, filling me with a sense a fear, uncertainty, and dread, even though I knew the neighborhood I live in is a safe one. And I also thought hey, this sounds like a good idea for a survival horror game. And instead of spirits and demons though, your being stalked by a masked murderer. You would have to rely on your both sight, headlight, and ears to determine if the killer is pursuing you, near, and is planning the strike. He wouldn't running after behind per say, but more like hiding where its dark, like the darkness between houses, or in the tall grasses of an undeveloped area, tall trees, basically anywhere that neither street lamps or outdoor house lights shine. You could avoid being intercepted and killed by sprinting, or taking a different direction. But at the same time, you also got to take your stamina and breath into consideration, as if you sprint too much, you'll lose your breath, stamina, which will cause you to slow down, which might leave you vulnerable. Perhaps difficulty could be determined by the amount of miles you run, and the location. The more miles you run, the more your breath and stamina you need to save, and more sparingly you need to use your sprints. Locations could include a (mostly) safe neighborhood, a park, or a forest trail where there are mostly no lights. That's the basics of what I had in mind. While I don't know how to make an actual game myself, it would be cool to see the idea come to fruition.

Interesting game. Before that last scene I was thinking he had been hit by the car and the demonic spirit chasing him was a reaper trying to collect his soul. After, I'd guess it was the spirit of the girl telling him he's going to hell for killing her.
Slight spoilers, but from 10:20 onward during the car chase...Does the horror music kinda sound like someone distorted the Tim Allen AEUHHH grunt to anyone else?
Man even with the horrible shit going on this video was very ASMR with the beautiful night scenery, the steady treading of the bike tires and that cute ding ding.
Lol at first i thought were just an ordinary teenage or adult riding bike home, and the car ride opposite way caused the accident that killed the girl. As we goin home in that road, she eventually haunted us. And the ending where she about to pull us to hell, i thought maybe were innocent person so that reaper didnt let her do so and let us back. But silly me, the plot at cutscene directly said were really the killer :^) wtf
I like this. It does not rely to heavily on one sort of mechanic or repetition. The changing of things keeps the interest but not only that, the lack of any real dialog lets the player interpret the story in their head rather than laying it out. This feels like Twin Peaks of walking horror simulators.
Man! This gem basically puts to shame almost every big budget horror game of the last 10 years! Glad to see the spirit of the old Silent Hill games still alive and kicking ;)
just sharing. when i was in 2nd grade(i was 6-7 y/o), we moved in a town 7 towns away from my hometown. ofc im the new kid. but one time, when i can't find my service on the parking lot, i decided to walk home because it's just one long road and few turns. but my classmate, whick i find fascinating (hehe), coincidentally that her house is just few meters away from the school. but after that, we separated. as I'm walking, ofc I'm little scared. but when i first turned, i feel heavy on my back and my feet are getting weak. note that after the second turn, the side of the road are tall bushy thingys. and i remember that when i came home, it's already dusk. but my parents seem to didn't notice, like I'm already home few hours earlier. but when i peek to d window, it seems it's still bright. after that, i just watched tv and eat biscuits. few hours later, we ate dinner. and after that, it seems that i got déjà vu. but the outside is dark. if you read until the end, thank you.
"Damn, this is one helluva burger!" In all seriousness, this is one well-made game. Absolutely immersive atmosphere. It's gorgeous, in a way (the full moon, the slight rustle of the trees, the creak of the bicycle tires, the cheery bell rings), up until the skies turn red and the darkened roads, of course. Jumpscares not over the top, just nice to give players that unsettling feel. You frequently look behind your shoulder as you cycle your way home. For some reason, "Too Fast, Too Fries" comes to mind.
The game's plot is excellent in its telling and the little details. Obviously, you expect the story is that the old geezer in the car ran over the girl and now her vengeful ghost wants to punish them and cause you to suffer the same fate because all ghosts are a-holes, but as you perform the loop over and over you see new details and the death screen's "Not yet" is so meaningful. The jumpscares are actually good, looking back at the scary stuff makes it harder to survive just like how it is on a bike, and the reveal at the end makes a ton of sense. King Yama or Death himself saving the player gives us a maybe haunted, maybe mundane answer that it's all a guilt dream of an old geezer dealing with the realization they've run over a kid at night.

Reminds of the time I was riding my bike home in the middle of the night and made the braindead decision to ride along a bike trail with no lights.
That gal did not waste any time going from being the victim of a hit and run to being a vengeful ghost.
Also!
I genuinely did not expect that ending, so well done on the developer!
It's currently 4 AM and I cannot go back to sleep because I have a cold so this video couldn't have come at a more perfect time.
hope u feel better homie
@@enidanni3919 Thanks, I went to the doctor today and found out I have covid. I gotta quarantine for 10 days but for the most part my symptoms are barely there just feels like the regular cold/flu
@@Trinidi. oh that sucks
stay safe and drink alot of water
@@enidanni3919 thank you and yes I've been drinking tons of water and on some meds to help symptoms. I'm just fine 👍🏻
@@Trinidi. when I was seriously ill last year I was also watching ABG video to soothe the pain till 4 am
Me, the entire time: "For God's sake, KEEP THE BURGER SAFE!"
eldritch beings really wanted that burger.
the skull at the end looks suspiciously like the logo of baldurs gate, bhaal or something.
and i think i pieced the story here, you're being tormented by the spirit of the biker you hit with the car.
Either that or he's the spirit/victim of the hit and run
13:24 got you good that little panic
I love when the driver dunks his head on the steering wheel, like, he has driven by so many times now
Lmao
Ay sick bicycle trick tho 9:13
Idk why but i like horror stories that connects with afterlife like youre already dead wandering in hell or somethin
Indeed, it's fascinating cause we don't know what will happen in afterlife.
14:54 this was so funny =)))))
The panic and crashing into a road block
Mannnn if you don’t quit looking behind you and ride that damn bike lmfao
I'm the same too I always press the bell of my bike to make some noises and calm my nerves when i ride my way home, I have a night shift work and i always ride my bike. My shift ends at 3am. I know the feeling of riding a bike alone in the middle of the night.
13:25
"mmm these borgrs look tasty"
ghost: *y o u r c a r e x t e n d e d w a r r a n t y , s i r*
Lol!
I would say you're the best UA-camr to lookout for interesting odd indie game titles.
This would be traumatizing in VR
There's something so soothing about it, the combination of ambient sound and the sizzle of the chain wheel. Really makes me feel at ease (I say that with 3:17 minutes into the video)
Man this guy eats a lot of burgers in one night. Did the burger place perform a ritual to get this guy put into a burger buying loop?
dont give McDonalds any ideas
Man what an incredible story this is really something else
I hope your channel becomes more popular because your content is great and the way you play games is almost cinematic. i love your channel man keep it up
Ngl, the vibration & the loud thumping at 14:41 scared the shit out of me
Reminiscent of the movie “The Machinist”
Suppression and repression both voluntarily and involuntary inevitably lead to a psychotic break.
Breakdown or breakthrough? Up to you.
*Gets chased by bad spirits and Demons*
This Guy: sheeesh *DING DING*
i was glued from beginning to the end. excellent experience!
Tim the tool man Taylor here and I’m fucking pissed.
me: riding bike, strange thing: follow me,me: look back
Clever and unexpected scenario.
Man even with the horrible shit going on this video was very ASMR with the beautiful night scenery, the steady treading of the bike tires and that cute ding ding.
Sick visuals, the fleshy car was my favorite!
I liked the giant ghost
Imagine dying in your dream and then wake up and see “Not Yet”
I also like that the ending is open for interpretation.
ABG, if you have a bike, I really hope you have mirrors on it. Because my dude, you look back too much.
Wow I didn't expect for that ending ;-; if you gonna think about it, this happens a lot in real life so drive safe guys .。*♡
Yes I always encounter demons and get sent to hell while driving and get chased by a giant ghost that has mini clones

You still sound like a kid to me

"Damn, this is one helluva burger!"
In all seriousness, this is one well-made game.
That feel when you run from a demon and accidentally win Tour de France.
Every dream means something.
My dreams:
The game's plot is excellent in its telling and the little details. Obviously, you expect the story is that the old geezer in the car ran over the girl and now her vengeful ghost wants to punish them and cause you to suffer the same fate because all ghosts are a-holes, but as you perform the loop over and over you see new details and the death screen's "Not yet" is so meaningful. The jumpscares are actually good, looking back at the scary stuff makes it harder to survive just like how it is on a bike, and the reveal at the end makes a ton of sense.
King Yama or Death himself saving the player gives us a maybe haunted, maybe mundane answer that it's all a guilt dream of an old geezer dealing with the realization they've run over a kid at night.
damn just let a dude eat his burger already
"The spirits of those before you have come to decide your fate, there's nowhere for you to hide."
