Doug failed to mention that the engine was built by Ferrari...that fact alone makes it worth 80k
Exactly!
Oh no it's all Alfa's work. It's just a coincidence that it has the same bore, stroke, v angle and mounting of the turbos as the Ferrari California's engine. No it's completely Alfa's work. Umm humm totally not a Ferrari engine.

The car is literally made by Ferrari not just the engine

Literally it’s a 4door Ferrari. It is the best 4door performance sedan in the world.
Wasn't the Ghibli considered to be a 4-Door Ferrari as well?
Lambochaser Well probably not because it’s heavier and it doesn’t share a similar engine. The engine in the Alfa is very similar to the Ferrari 458 except minus the two cylinders
Oli B I would say more 488, the 458 is naturally aspirated, whereas the giulia and 488 have twin turbos
@@albaniansk8er it's the engine from the Portofino, minus 2 cylinders

well not really, most "Doug the type of guy" comments that I've seen are bizarre and stupid, for example "Doug the type of guy to break into a car and steal the owners manual" is one that I've found, and people don't do that, its just to make a stupid funny comment on him.
Legend has it, Doug is still trying to turn off the turn signals.
How does it turn off?
Li Sa when you turn the wheel to the left or right it turns off.
@@mailingjennynow The lever has 2 "steps". If it doesn´t turn off automatically, because you didn´t make a big enough turn, you push the lever SLIGHTLY and it turns off the signal. You feel some more resistance in the lever when you´ve pushed it enough.
It's really not that hard. I actually found it intuitive within 15 minutes of driving the car

I get challengers and fans every day. 16,000+ miles so far and not a single problem. Completely, totally in love with this car.

Same here! I had other sports cars (911's, 981 Spyder, M3's, Lotus) - and some of them are still in my garage- but the Giulia is truly unique. An amazing car!
Even the non Quadrifoglio is amazing.
Have you worked out how to turn the indicators off yet?

I know it's not your thing, but it would be hilarious to see a highly modified, used, worthless car review. IE: "Here's why this Modified 240sx is worth $5000". Great way to bring up how modifications add little to no value. Haha. Great content lately - keep it up!

"it's well-designed"? well designed? It's top notch design. Even Germany awarded this car for design. Most beautiful sedan after Alfa 159
You mean Alfa 156, the masterpiece. The 159 wasn't beautiful :p
166? Now you're just trolling ... that fat piece of shit could never replace the simple, clean beauty of the 164.
Sven Schwingel I find 156 to be one of the last one to pick up design - wise. Both 159 and 166(front facelift) look better than 156 in my opinion.
I consider the 156 a masterpiece. Clean lines, perfect proportions and gosh, those taillights looked like gems. The Alfa GT had the same design language btw. And the new Giulia seamlessly picks up where these left off. I also liked the 155 with its edges and its wedge silhouette and the 164 which was all about serious business elegance.
Personally, I consider the successors (including Brera/166/159) to be a tad overstyled. They still have style and passionate design, but to me, they lack the simplicity what made Alfa Romeo designs so desirable. I don't want them to go the way Honda went with its Civic lineup over the years which went from a no-bullshit clean design to be the optical abomination we see today.
But the most beautiful Alfa Romeo of all times is still the 70's 2000 GTV Bertone Coupé.
Sven Schwingel 156 was definitely amazing. I actually preferred the look of the face lifted sportwagon. both were great
The exhaust sounded fucking amazing
Especially for a v6
Ofcourse it is.... Its basically a ferrari v8 with less 2 cylinder...
Yeah
That Saab tho
@close edge You should wish for the 156 GTA ;) Its waaay Better then the 2,5
It's not the exhaust to heard. It's the engine!
Qv owner here. Had 3 x m3's in a row before my Qv. When doug says "it's so fast from a speed your already going" ..he is so right. It feels like when you floor the throttle in 4th or 5th, it seems to pull just as hard as it does in 2nd or 3rd. Properly quick car, and it has the chassis and traction to facilitate its immense engine.
Never, I mean never trash talk about Alfa Romeo 8C, this car is pure art on wheels.
Totally agree with you. Alfa Have always made stunning looking cars
nikosgianop I've always thought that car was hideous. I don't think I've ever seen an alfa I didn't think looked disgusting with that front end but that's just my lil opinion though. I'm sure the entire planet and all of existence disagrees with me.
LegendInThaMakin, How dare you!? You gotta love Alfa, it's the law!!
Deer Lord Everything else looks okay, but I never liked any alfa's front end. Ruins the entire car imo.
nikosgianop he didn't trash talk it he said it was low volume stop being so triggered
Its made in Italy with no parts from Mexico or China so its worth 80k
Agree, if i'm gonna give my money to someone it's gonna be to EU/US manufacturers.
But Alfa Romeo bellongs to FCA, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
It’s a foreign then🔥👍🏽
Tbh, its only foreign part is the transmission (it's the 8HP model from ZF, which is a German company)! But then, most cars nowadays use this transmission, including the Giulia's direct competitors, the BMW 3 and the Jaguar XE! And the next generation of the M3 will have this exact transmission, complete with AWD with Drift Mode!
@@justsam100 Why is that? I'm curious. I mean, if you give jobs to people from Mexico they will be less likely to cross the border illegally so I think is a win-win.

Just an avarage alpha? Did you even watch the video? There is no "alpha" that compares to this one.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadriplegiformaggio is my favourite car right now
Quadriplegiformaggio??? AHAHAHAH WTF!!
I'm Italian and I admit that maybe in America (but alzo in Italy) not all people understand the meaning of "Quadrifoglio". It comes from the historical period when Alfa was the best producer of cars in the world: Actually the first and the second F1GranPrix season were both winned by the Alfa, with the cars called "quadrifoglio" (🍀), symbol of Luck for the car and the pilot.
Daniele Minosi lol I'm just quoting Clarkson from the grand tour, I'm sorry if I accidentally offend some Italians out there. I Love your country's history, people, and food!

Everything is like its supposed to be. Everyone shits on Alfa because its italian and italian cars like ferrari and lamborghini break often. This doesnt. Had an audi a4 before same year and engine power, it was way worse than the alfa.
To be fair, alfa cars used to be sensitive to lazy maintenance. Being on the high performance side, they don't need extra care, but they will fail, and soon, if you neglect basic maintenance. Most other cars are build to be more resilient to lazy owners. BTW, it's just the same for BWMs, which even in Germany end up to be less reliable than alfas.

His legs are way longer than the average Italian. I'm short enough that the B pillar is too far back, and therefore the seatbelt is uncomfortable on most cars. This is a positive selling point for me.
i actually really like the stereo volume/track skip control on the center console. it's basically where your hand already is when you're driving and you don't have to lean forward or anything like you do in every other car that has the controls on the stereo/entertainment system. the only way it could be better is if they went mid 90s acura legend style and put them on the steering wheel.
daneg007 Agreed, It just seems natural. I feel like this could be a great bargain on the pre-owned market. The depreciation could be used for "repairs". That's IF Alfa still has the same reliability in the past
lpmoora n
B
daneg007 that's why the volume/seek track buttons are on the steering wheel
lpmoora i just bought one and holy shit is it worth every penny. couldn't be happier. now im just crossing my fingers that alpha keeps it up.
Who cares about it's track record in the U.S. It has a good track record in Europe. Love this car!
Fun Fact
That V6 is ACTUALLY the Ferrari V8 from the California, with 2 Cylinders chopped off of it.
So you get a real, fully fledged Ferrari V6 under the hood.
Doug, to turn off the turn signal at 4:00, lightly tap the turn lever towards the "neutral" position. and it'll turn off.
He tried that. What a stupid design.
+Gordo Einstein Aren't the fanboys always trying to justify the inflated cost of this eurojunk by boasting about the "little details"?
Mr. White Eurojunk? I thought you drove an XJ?
What?

Wow a whole review of an Alfa Romeo without the words: passion, soul or beauty.
This is what the Maserati Ghibli should be
Does the Ghibli?
I have a ghibli and watching this video my first thought was that this car reminds me of my car more than I expected
@@oliverchilds9453 *n* *o*
Ghibli is ok. Just way to much Dodge in it for the price.
Arian Bahadori Ghashghai same, I still don’t get why Doug literally shat on it besides the fact that is depreciates like crazy
The design of this car is still one is my all time favourites.
Better than a maserati ghilbi
Almost anything is better than every year of maserati, hell give me a fucking accord v6, I will take it over a maserati, real life offers
Oh god yes
sad how bad Maserati sucks
Be great if VW bought maserati...might do something with them
The gran turismo is the only good Maserati, one of the best sounding engines in history. However, Ferrari made the engine..
To turn off the turn signal, move the lever in the opposite direction until the first click (about half way)... its very "italian" but easy to get used to x)
Mikuláš Černák same in gulietta XD pretty annoying at the begging but easy to get used to
Tak to mala aj Vectra C - ale to už ty si bol v base :)
Mikuláš Černák stfu bosnian
Freaking really annoying, had a Stelvio for four days and still couldn’t get use to the damn turn signal! Infotainment was terrible, couldn’t figure out how to manually turn off the headlights. Other than that the driving experience was awesome!
go read the owner's book first, it helps.
You have to do another review of Giulia Quad. You missed some features. For example, explain how the front spliter works (it opens in dynamic mode), how the aerodynamics work beneath the car with rear difusor, the engine designed by a Ferrari engineer and the advanced efficiency mode that shuts off the sparks injection on 3 cilindres to save some fuel.
Thanks for not trashing Alfa too much! ;) Best car on the market, period! True Italian car.
Remember people, Alfa Romeo is the king of automobile industry. A long story and history of true love for cars and their design.
Erik Čebokli thats BMW
Oh really.
Rolls royce
Yep, Enzo Ferrari learned from them. He worked a long time for Alfa Romeo, until he founded Ferrari. Alfa Romeo is a real legendary car.
Erik Čebokli not king, that's for sure, and they fucked up the last three decades in which they made shit quality cars (and never sold good in the us) but good thing that they got better with this and the last cars (159, 156 and so on)...
Alfa romeo has no track record?? Alfa Romeo has a history that otjerati could only dream and wish
He was talking about America only
Alfa is starting to grow on me. I've been looking at the 4c. And I think next summer I'll get one!
Aaaaand you did get one?
@@sonicuno1 lol I did not, I bought a Toyota Tacoma TRD sport instead, I have to wait a few more years.
@@dk7541 lmao well with a bit of fantasy that Toyota will be your personal 4C I guess
Came here from Kennen’s terrific review to watch Doug’s excellent vintage review of…a truly great car. A modern classic that I really hope to own one day. Thanks Kennen! And Doug!
Alfa romeo makes the most beautiful cars, the 159 was my dream car growing up and the giulia is a worthy successor
159 owner here ;)
I need a 159!
What about the 156 GTA. That's one of the best looking and sounding alfas ever
The 159 has a great design. If it was rear wheel drive it would have been a perfect car
I wish there was some place else i could go to hear more of your thoughts
I heard he's thinking about writing a column on this website called autosteer dot com slash overtrader.
Been Exposed, so I Deleted My Account. I heard he was going to start one late 2017 but thats just rumors
My dad always was into Alfa Romeo's. I've been liking the cars since wayback. Great to really see them coming up now
I think the fact that Alfa, one of the greatest car marques ever, has not really bothered selling to the US in recent years, probably says more about the US market than the car maker.
I don't know this for sure, but I think that maybe because they're not made in the US makes them cost more so they are/would be horribly over priced. Some foreign companies actually have factories here but I don't think Alfa does. I'm not 100 percent on that though kind of a guess.
Best alloys ever.
80k, sounds fantastic, and looks 1000 times better than an m3. Yeah, it's really hard to say no to that.
I really enjoyed your review! It was simplistic, yet informative. It is the best review I have seen on that car, so far! I love the car! My only concern is its reliability! Your review seems honest and coincides with other reviews, but your personality gives me more confidence in wanting to go get that car! Thank u!
"Hey which car do you drive?"
"I drive the Joolia QualcommSpadragon855"
"Oh okay".
Ian Lee who u talkin too? 😂
Ian Lee y so damn mad
I'm sold! That pillar might save me from getting shot in the face when I'm at a stoplight in Chicago. The benefit will be twofold. 1. I won't accidentally look over and make eye contact with a thug who will be incensed at my blatantly disrespectful act of looking at things. 2. Even though I won't be making eye contact the thug may still feel disrespected by my car being nicer than his so he'll take a few shots with the sideways gangsta grip but my noodle won't turn to strudel on account of the formidable, strategically placed B pillar.
Damn... Chicago should be renamed to Little Mexico.
Deer Lord take a look at one of our more recent thug contributions. Just search UA-cam for Facebook live shooting 2 year old.

A child is murdered on that video.
Sal C lmao 80000 grand and thats what you have on mind.... you must be coke dealer 😂😂 seriously tho bro you need to move !!
FreemanSpeaks nope. I don't deal. I won't even drink and drive. I obey all the laws but that doesn't matter. Chicago is equal opportunity. Good, bad, old, young, smart, dumb, getting shot is a right, here, not a privilege.
Sal C Lol the way you said it..... 😂😂😂 so everyone must be packin heat !!
As a European, the only surprise was your surprise. Alfa are popular all over Europe and have always made the occasional rocket ship. Also, having driven a 156 for over 6 years, mechanically, Alfa Romeo are solid. Had more trouble with the Volkswagen I now drive.
You're comparing poorly built eurojunk to poorly built eurojunk.
Mr. White American cars are the worst built. No doubt about that
These days all cars are shit.. they are made to break so that the customer has to come back and they can make more money changing parts everyone knows will break again. I owned a Skoda Fabia 2008 model, basically the same as an Volkswagen Polo (as Skoda now is owned by Volkswagen), and it was an 1,9 TDI that had the same driveshafts as the 1,2 petrol version.. you'd think the 1,9 TDI would have A LOT more tourqe and possible would need beefier parts.. and you'd be right. After 3 years of owning that car I had to replace BOTH driveshafts because they were totally fucked up from too much tourqe.. good fucking job in making me spend money on something I really shouldn't have to.. cars today
+Daniel Valjin Bullshit. Most european junk spends more time in the shops than on the road.
American cars were junk back when European cars were good. Now it’s the opposite. I grew up as a European car fan but I ventured out and bought a Cadillac CTS-V. What a blast to drive and totally reliable. Dealer service also stellar. I have 3 friends who have had BMws which all had catastrophic engine failure with under 100k. That just Sad in this day and age. And since bmw has horrific resale value none of them were worth at $16,000 engine replacement. My dad had an S600 Mercedes. Beautiful car when it wasn’t in the shop-but sadly it was, and often. There is one upside to this- any Eastern European can now afford to buy a ten year old Mercedes or BMW and think he is the shit while listening to euro techno driving down the road despite a failed suspension system and non working electrical
System.
Back in the early 1970s, while growing up back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, my dad owned an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1.3. He then traded it in for an Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000. Both were great driving car and my dad loved it.
Hey Doug, no idea if you read these. I bought one in 2020 on the back of this review. I have no regrets. Makes me smile every time I hit the ignition.
I'd pick this over a BMW in a heartbeat.
You'd break down in a heartbeat aswell...
Hell ya
I put a penny in my piggy bank for every time he says "quirky" I'm now rich
The Top - Banana! well you already had the pennies before putting them in the bank..
Rbreeze 78 well. I guess......magic!
The Top - Banana!
Now you can buy this car
Plebian is almost always mentioned as well
Thinking bout getting one of these in a couple months, seems like a great car now around 50k+
Man that's a fucking bargain!!!
@Oggy go for it, it's a dream car!
Just picked up a ti sport....loooove It!!!
@Oggy Dont do it
Did you get it?
Love this! Thanks, Doug! I love how unique the Giulia is compared to a BMW or Mercedes. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to afford one, but when I do... oh boy!!
