Dearest Natalie thank you immensely for all the beauty you have brought into our world. "You've gone so far away." 😢 Indeed I lost my dearest father far too soon at age 68 December 14, 2021, closed my eulogy with King of May and wrote your lyrics Life is Sweet on his gloss black casket. If it weren't for him getting Tigerlily so long ago I wonder when I would have finally discovered you and later on the REMARKABLE 10,000 Maniacs. I just drove 625 miles from Ohio yesterday be here at your global tour opener wearing his favorite black and white long sleeve shirt despite the 90 degree temperatures and wouldn't miss it for the entire world. ❤ I am so glad he joined me to see you at the SLC, UT Leave Your Sleep 2010 tour and I know he is beside me in spirit today. REST IN PEACE DAD. 🖤 I adore you immensely precious Natalie. 🥰
I chose Natalie's beautiful version of 'Poor Wayfaring Stranger' for the start of my Dad's funeral last September. He was 92, so he had a good long life, with a couple of difficult (Covid era) years at the end. I really like the way the lyrics talk about meeting up with relatives who have gone before. As the opening banjo notes played and the early September sun filtered through the English oak trees outside the chapel, I was deeply moved. My mum survived Dad by just 70 odd days (they met at infant school in the early 1930s). I chose Rhiannon Giddens' lovely version of the same song for the start of Mum's funeral.
Seeing this live was incredible . The ending at about 430 mark on just keeps going and going . Sister Tillly you’re a constellation / sister Tilly you’re a white light vibration now . Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous ❤️
Wow! Well whoever Ms Tilly was this is one helluva tribute to her life. A beautiful homage to her. Magnificent songwriting on this album. Speechless. 🙌🏻
She said Miss Tilly is an amalgam of the women from her mother’s generation, as I recall. Beautiful song. Natalie is one of those women I’d love to have coffee and a long talk with
love the musical arrangement of these new songs ,, the strings and horns are so complimentary to her voice imo great voice plus great backing band equals great music ... 🥰
Natalie, your voice is so beautiful to me. Your music has always been food for my soul ❤ I love this new music too. I am so excited that you are back!!
From my first time seeing the 10,000 Maniacs and Natalie at Joyce’s keg room when they first started out. She still to this day has that voice and words that only the Maniacs and Natalie can reach my soul. I so wish I could be at your concert at Chautauqua institution but can’t make it. Thank you for doing a concert at home. We are after all your first fans.
This came to me by accident and I am so glad it did. Always loved Natalie. The passage of time & those we have loved, so wistful & often hard for us, letting them go on, yet holding on in our mind's eye to their glorious beams of light ...
Oh Natalie yet another heartfelt song from your latest album which I have ordered I cannot wait. It is a most wonderful memory of my phone interview with you I did in the late 80s prior to your concert in Auckland New Zealand. The phone cut out and you rang me back It was a very special and blessed period of my life I really admire and respect you Natalie
This is such a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to a life well lived! This song is Natalie at her very best! I’ve been a fan of hers since 1989 and I’m finally getting to see her in concert in Chicago on May 19th. I’m so excited!
Saw her last night...there just aren't enough superlatives! An outstanding performer with an incredible orchestra. The best 3 hours I've spent in a long time. Enjoy!
@@rossmurray6849 It was a fine album, but it was largely overlooked. Fine songs like 'The End', 'Go Down Moses', 'Lulu' and 'It's a Coming' deserved a wider audience.
I just lover music so much! I’ve always been her biggest fan! I saw her in concert in the 90’s in Austin at south park meadows. I’ve listened to her all these years!❤❤❤❤
Saw her do this song live in April. It was very new. It was very emotional. She had to stop and compose herself several times. Lot of tears in the audience by the end of the song.
Was wondering who Sister Tilly might be,she sounds/sounded like a lot of fun!(and a Zeppelin fan to boot!) Fantastic to have new music from Natalie, some of these songs,Hunting the Wren and the Feast of St Valentine in particular, are as haunting and beautiful as anything she's ever done. The album is on constant rotation here, along with the new Jethro Tull, RökFlöte,a late masterwork from the irrepressible Ian Anderson.
She said mrs tilly is an amalgam of the various women of her mother’s generation who had an influence on her, and she’s paying homage to them. The older women who mentored her and sort of took her under their wing during her naive young adult and early Maniacs days
Ok, I like this one well enough but many are too predictable and almost rote...meh. sorry I'm trying gotta catch up from my long hiatus. Anyone want to recommend any outstanding somewhat recents?
I hope Natalie knows how much she has given to so many. There is so much to appreciate in her music.
Well said!
@@jankyme Thanks!

Being able to see Natalie has been such a blessing to my life. This new album is no exception. It simply glows.
I just saw Natalie in concert last night in Hershey Pa. What an amazing performer who sings from the heart.

🙌🏻
It's dedicated to the writer Joan Didion and all her sisters. It's mentioned at the very end of the video
This song is so powerful and filled with love. It was transcendent to see her play this live. “A white light vibration” is such an incredible lyric.
Your voice resonates with beauty inside and out! 💜✌️💜✌️
The lyrics are delicate and pure poetry, they "give birth" to such beautiful images. Mrs Merchant returned wiser and more melodic than ever! 🙏
3:55 i didnt expect that transition very very nice! love Natalie!
Natalie you are still the QUEEN.

Love the way when she mentions Zeppelin the drummer goes all Bonzo for a few bars!

The album, not just this song.
Thanks for that!
No kidding. It’s rich and gorgeous.
She peeked into my past - bright yellow walls and Buffy Sainte-Marie! How’d she do that???
❤ Such a poignant homage - thank you Ms. Merchant 🌼💕

I loved your Mom so much! Anne was a Sister Tilly to me.
Just got home from seeing her perform this live with an orchestra. Her talent truly knows no bounds, it was nothing short of amazing.

Killer tempo shift… excellent uplift as reminiscent thoughts give way to the upward new.
Loved that about this song too. Went from 3/4 to 4/4 in a blink of an eye.
I got to see this live on this tour (5/13/23). I'm so glad I packed tissues.

My aunt used to call me till and every word of this song just hit me. I’m going through such a hard time right now.

I agree. I think this new album is her best since Motherland.
@@rossmurray6849 I do like the new album, but I respectfully disagree, as I feel that the 2014 'Natalie Merchant' album was very underrated.
