I personally do not see a modern equivalent to many of these people. It’s not a question of ability but what you do with it. Sure the technical levels of players has risen in certain ways but it is starting to feel quite homogenized if you ask me. To much money and social media involved, not enough focus on the human element. But that’s just my opinion and to each his or her own.

I'm disagreeing and saying too bad you see it that way, because there are lots of brilliant musicians around today. Look up Pasquale Grasso if you don't believe me. One of many amazing artists/musicians out there in the world. You must have missed where OP shames all of today's society...
