- With the headstock complete, its time to complete the rest of this neck. I'm trying to get a lot done this time as I feel the need to make up some ground on this build. My goal is to have the neck completed by the end of this video.

So many pucker moments in this build. Looks awesome!
It seems to me that just about every step is one of those. Lol
Great video can’t wait to hear the sound of the guitar!
Thanks You! Thats make 2 of us. Lol.
The alignment blocks for fretboard placement is a great idea!
Its a method Eric Schaefer uses for a few operations. I decided to try it here and it worked awesome.
Guitar is looking really nice. I also like the jigs you made and used both for working and routing the joints and small pieces and also for carving the neck So many times I have watched guitar builder just clamp one end of their neck to a work bench and start shaping the back of the neck and it is often moving around and flexing and just looks like a real hassle having to chase the neck around also with it flexing I would think it might be difficult to keep it a consistent uniform taper. Really looking forward to seeing the guitar finished and hearing what it sounds like. A few months back I bout an inexpensive but nice Donner acoustic electric guitar and then bought a bone nut new string pegs and bone bridge insert. did a little work on the frets and the most difficult thing I had to do was lower the height of the strings to a more comfortable level. The guitar has walnut Body construction with ebony fret board and I also replaced the tuning machines with some Locking hipshot tuners. Looks really nice and has a nice mellow sound. I'm happy with the modifications and upgrades I made.
This series has been entertaining as well as the guitar looks amazing!
After watching this (etal) I'm going to stay with solid bodies. Risk to reward too great working with valuable wood. Soldier on.
Love the video. Very helpful as I’m building my first acoustic. Any idea where I can get plans to build that mortise and tenon jig or does your friend sell them by any chance? All the best!! Carlos
keep it coming my man
Looking good... Glad you didn't do a live stream of fitting the neck🤣
Lol, It would have been the longest live stream ever.
I was thinking perhaps pre floss the neck joint to a close approximation before you glue on the fretboard ?
I did just that. It was as close as I could get it before gluing.
@@homebuiltshop ok. I figured that.
Santo cielo...basta una dima e una fresa a banco a copiare..
You mentioned in your final thoughts this was the best playing guitar you ever had....... out of curiosity what Fretboard Radius did you end up using?
I used a 14" Radius on this guitar.
Got a question here: How exactly would you put in the frets if you glue the neck first?
Quite honestly, it seems it will be difficult as it is, with the fretboard already glued to the neck (would need different support pieces for different parts of the fretboard).
It seems at this point a fret press is already out of question, but once you glue that thing on the body, I dont's ee a way to even hammer them in safely.
I agree with you for sure. Its going to be a bit harder than with a flat bolt on neck on an electric guitar. There is a fret press system available that is well suited for working on necks like this. Its not a fast as my arbor press but should do the job. I want to get the neck glued in so I can level the fretboard in place. This should hopefully make sure its dead flat. If I level it now and something moves a bit when I glue it, there's a chance it may not be as flat as possible. We'll see how it goes.
One question about the jig/stand for the neck carving jig. Is the angled piece where the head lays removable in case you want to change the angle of the head stock on a different style of neck?
Yes, The angled piece is removable. There's a dowel on the bottom that fits into a hole on the top of the jig. I can put it on either end of the jig, or remove it altogether if needed.
How did you cut the body for the neck? The mortise and Tenon joint
I’m surprised your using inserts instead of T-nuts
This method seems much easier as you don't have to drill the holes in the side of the tenon.
Yeah I suppose it’s easier. Not sure it s as strong.
