Who remembers the Alternative London PUNK DOLLS by Marian Kenny? They were sold in souvenir shops and news kiosks throughout London in the 80's.

I left London in 1979 and trust me, the punk thing was so OVER. It was second generation kids from the suburbs and Americans new to the scene. In California it had just begun and The Clash was playing at Santa Monica Auditorium, although the kids were very conservative still (Pendletons), no Mohawks or safety pins yet until Hollywood Blvd picked up on the ripped fishnets, massive eyeliner and spiked hair.
Sex Pistols, Stranglers, etc were more 1975, done as a rebellion against bourgeois hippies and vast arena rock shows that nobody could afford. Don’t forget, the Stones and the Beatles drove around London in Rolls Royces wearing fur coats, drinking champagne; rock stars were rich guys with mansions and girlfriends, their kids went to private schools.
Punk was about having no future, no job, DIY, safety pins.

@@DiogenesOfCa I'm an old git mate, anything after 79 was considered naff by a lot of people. John Ritchie/ Sid Vicious death-U.K. punk died. I remember where I was at the time, same as Kurt Cobain's death. ''Wanna take my photo for three quid foreign tourist type person''? Now's not the time to be pedantic, keep safe.

@@ericcrawford9827 Iwass in the Hard Core scene in So Cal in the early 80's, it was real not made up crap like the Sex Pistols.
Like Mike ness says, "if you walked down the street with blue hair you were going to get your ass kicked".
That was our reality here in conservative California.

ive just watched 3 or 4 videos like this on here, all of them have some priests hanging out trying to be cool with the punk kids. they use to do that stuff with me and my friends to when we were in high school in the late 80s in Oklahoma U.S.

    • @newwavepop

i remember i was out walking around town with a kid i knew not even really a friend buy just sort of an acquaintance from the scene. we stopped at a 7-11 to get some drinks and the guy i was with started talking to some older sort of strange looking guy he seemed to know. then he comes over to me and says his friend is going to give us a ride to where ever it was we were heading, and he starts explaining this guy drives around town and gives troubled looking kids rides and all you have to do is listen to his born again bullshit. so i was like OK whatever. i wasnt really too worried because i was 16 at the time and from a roguh neighborhood and i was very SLAYER thrash metal at the time and i was 6'5". so we walk out to this guys car and he is driving a big white panel van and it had some sort of church crap on it like a youth ministries name or something. and the guy drove where we were going and just talked to us the whole time trying to convert somebody and it was fine. but i remember after we got out i just sort of stood there thinking how f**** creepy it really was, like this guy just drives around town giving delinquent kids rides and he knows all the problem kids, he was talking to other kids he knew by name when we were at the 7-11. and i was just thinking regardless of how good his intentions may have actually been. he was still driving around town teaching underage at risk kids to trust some weird creepy dude in a panel van to give them rides. thats also the only time i recall ever actually hanging out with that acquaintance. that kind of stuff really wasnt my scene, asking people for help and favors and stuff.

@@JackEksteen this is when i was in high school 86-90 in Oklahoma city. we are in the bible belt and it was during the sort of satanic panic period in the 80s where people were making heavy metal out as some sort of huge thing that was going to destroy society. so it was common for weird middle aged guys hanging around claiming to be ex satanic cult members and stuff like that, coming up to me and my friends that had metal band shirts on and trying to convert us. they would be allowed to hang out front of our school when we got out and they would always try to talk to us. they would try to invite us to free pizza parties at the local church where them and some other people would get up and tell laughable stories about the murders and things they witnessed when they were in cults. and like i said i guess some of them drove around town giving kids rides while they tried to preach at them and convert them.

@@newwavepop You see, the USSR is a crypto-Colony of Great Britain. Through the Freemasons Social Democrats. A very savage system that you can beat.
Great Britain is a scary place. This is the USSR (Well, now they are sorting out the USA. Good or bad USA, it doesn't matter. The future will be worse).
That is, the ISLAND is the Lair of the Beast. The Church of England is a SPECIAL SERVICE, Atheists work there :)))
      These are ordinary Secret Police.
The Punk Movement itself was developed in this way, because it is nonsense. This is the road to nowhere. For 50 years they have been threatening to build a republic, freedom ... :) Good luck. It's like the Masonic Irish-British War. A real war resolved this conflict in 2 months (In either direction. Naloyevo or on the right) But the terrorist secret, the war of secret societies is ENDLESS
Great Britain she has nothing :) Only the Navy, Masons, Secret Police, Stock Exchange, Journalism. All other areas (construction, cars, delicacies, heating of apartments = on a residual basis)

Unreal how punk had its own style - clothes, hair etc. Now you see these middle aged (and older) women with blue or purple hair. Nothin is original anymore. Punk style used to mean something to the individual. Now people from literally grade school to old folks pretty much copied these styles to some degree.
