This video follows the completion of the kit along with making of the launch pad display base. Final reveal of the kit shows the finished model and base.
Excellent build, well done sir! I love your work. I remember here in the UK during the early 1970's watching Thunderbirds, Space: 1999, UFO, Captain Scarlett and thinking how cool all of the vehicles looked, and they still look great today. I think that they just look really functional, as if they could actually work. You don't see model-making skill of that quality on TV (or even at the movies) anymore. Give me proper physical models over CGI anytime! Everyone I know remembers these awesome Gerry Anderson shows; they were a huge part of our childhood over here!
Sergei Lebadev I totally agree. Gerry Anderson and company created an amazing world that made our imaginations run wild. Watching these shows today and working on these models certainly brings back such fond memories and nostalgia. It’s part of what makes this hobby so much fun. Thank you for your comment. I truly share your enthusiasm and love of the Gerry Anderson universe. Thanks for watching 😊
I remember watching this programme when it first came out and I have to say seeing this build just brings back great memories. I wonderful result sir that you should be proud of. Al
Genuinely outstanding work! I love the detail you added to the engine panels. The pilot came out much better than I first thought it would. The base was the most unexpected and pleasant surprise for me. Awesome man.
You did a fantastic job with the interceptor. Looks better than the ones featured in the programme. Derek Meddings and Mike Trim would be very proud of that. (they designed and built the models used in the series, along with other people).
Thank you very much for your kind compliment. Building this ship brought back so many fond memories of watching the show with my brother when we were kids. Loved the special effects work on this show as well as 1999. Thank you for watching.
Great video and presentation !! WHAT scale is the kit ?? IVE ONLY been able to get the DINKY or modern sci fi die cast and 2 SHADO MOBILES AND SKYDIVER ...PRICE of die cast SKYDIVER is seriously crazy ! £150 LAST toy fair I attended. IM WORKING on a trio of MOONBASE interceptors in formation ...as the TV SERIES tracking shot as they deploy on UFO SIGHTING/ ATTK !! USE of DINKYS and 1 modern. OLD luminous picture frame fr moon surface ..cat litter etc texture. THANKS GUYS MEGA INSPIRATION !
Great work-I think the technological development from the Interceptor to Space 1999 Eagle is very plausible and ,as we know, Space 1999 uses the salvaged concepts from the cancelled UFO2 series.
What I use for metallic paint is Alclad 2 lacquers, the only couple of down sides is first you need a great primer prior to shooting Alcads and the paint is pricey, most modelers use Krylon gloss black (it's less expensive compared to Alclads primers) but their polished aluminum and chrome silver looks like you plated the models, excellent results plus IT'S AIRBRUSH FRIENDLY AND MADE FOR AIRBRUSHES, please look into Alcald II paints
This needs to be re-released but really in a scale twice as big. The original Bandai kit is so small and fiddly it is very difficult. Also being so small the kit manufacturers didn't bother with giving us a detailed cockpit or a complete pilot. So most like here. People then have to source a jet fighter pilot and modify to suit. This kit is around 8.25 inches long. A 17 Inch kit would be wonderful as that would be a studio scale of 1/24.
You truly go the extra mile buddy, liked the talc trick, looks like the lunar surface 🖒😉,really loved this show as a kid, maybe a SHADO mobile to go with it 🤔,happy modelling buddy, Tim the primered thumb 🖒😉
I had the corgi toy of this ship. It was painted metallic green with orange landing gear. Not an accurate colour scheme but a classic die-cast toy all the same. I always wondered why it has a functionless tail fin that would have no use in space, on the moon or in Earths atmosphere. Looks cool though. Nice job.
I actually still have the Corgi toy...although I painted it camouflage gray as a kid and it's been that way ever since Lol. As for the tail....you have it exactly right, it looks cool. Thanks for watching and for your kind compliment.
great job, the scratch work done on engine bays is well done.clear canopy glue would have helped with the canopy gaps, and tamiya polish and future wax will help with the canopy transparency..all in all well done.
Hello, congratulations for the kit, difficult to find especially in Italy. Sorry but I couldn't understand where you found the decals in Italy for the interceptor. Thank you Carlo
Hi....it's been 6 yrs since this build so I actually dont recall and I'm sorry but for some reason I didn't place a link in the description here. Apparently it was some Italian website but I no longer have any info on that. Jim Botaitis produced a decal sheet but he is no longer in business. For whatever it's worth I still have the pdf for the decal sheet i came up with. Just email a request to interstellarmodeler at gmail. Thanks
Hi, the model of the Interceptor is wonderful, although I like much more Skyranger. Just I would like to say, that on the basis of the UFO Shado classical tv series was created a computer game UFO2Extraterrestrials that hosts interceptors, skyrangers, personal armors, mind probes, alien interrogations and many others. There anyone can intercept UFOs, take trooper on missions or interrogate aliens. It is worth playing especially if you grew up on the UFO Shado.
You should also check out some train shops or art supply shop if you have in your area, because they have is a cloth type material that has plaster on it. All you do is cut the size or shape, wet it, and put it on in layers.
yeah it's known as MODROC : plaster bandage or material!!! very popular usage with wargamers etc or "WOGELLERS" as they name themselves!! LOL wargamers who are WRGMES MODELLERS!! paper mache has been mentioned /PVA glue WHITE PVA glue !? mega for all models MODELLING !! hardens well with any fabrics etc polystyrene foam etc ok!! MEGA SHADO interceptor model build!! my understanding and patience /respect to any sci fi MODELLERS!! ie that we know WHAT it is to detail build particularly LARGER scale models ! I've been modeller since early teens now 60yrs lol and ENJOY as much as bk then not done as many RESIN or Multi MEDIA ?? kits as you guys have I take much inspiration from watching and listening and Learning from PRO SKILLS MODELLERS!! remember only too well TV series in 70s ULSTER TV my cousins (chicks lol ) had lived in England had PRE SEEN TV series !! I later got to see ...in B/W missed opportunity to see on colour TV once gutted TBT read and reread TV ANNUAL and snapped up DVD box sets !! today's generation well lucky to have access to mega detailed kits and vast range of SHADO vehicles ac. mobiles /SPT vechs etc hope to construct large and mid scale MOONBASE dio in future !! 20mm and 1/35th scale possible some 1-16th scale crew rooms MB interceptor cockpit etc ALSO CAPT Scarlet vechs etc have good collection of figs and SOF etc thanks for the clip very good skills and GD LUCK to ALL WOGELLERS etc !!!
One of the more unusual sci-fi space models. Considering the age of the kit you did really well. Do you have a link for the site you bought the decals from?
Interesting suggestion...you know I've not worked with paper mache since elementary school I think. The one thing I like about plaster is that it looks convincing when it hardened. Appreciate the suggestion and thanks for your nice comment.
Sorry...typo....it is jbot. You can reach out to him on facebook, search jbot decals. He no longer produces them on a regular basis. Only sells on a case by case basis.

Excellent video ,Especially model and launch pad👍👍
One of my favorite series as a kid!
Superb! So going to "borrow" your ideas when I get to mine. That base sets the kit off perfectly.

Thanks for the ring idea, that might be a good thing to use to make a space 1999 launch pad.
Great job all around. Very creative with the base.

I'm sorry, I was unable to completely translate the comment but appreciate you leaving one, thanks

When I applied my own home printed decals, they ended up smudging and smearing. The Jbot ones look superb!
It's still very hit and miss for me with home made decals. Just not sure what it is that I'm missing.
Perfection!👍👍👍

Looks great! FWIW the new line of Vallejo Metallics works great for me - even thru my airbrush.
Thanks....I will look into them for sure.
Excellent job. Btw, maintenance is spelt wrong on the decal.

nice...the base reminded me of cake decorating. . ;)
Felt like it too Lol
That's what I thought!.
i see this kit for the first time and it looks a bit funny but it's really nice...!
