Lots of people asked me to do another show & tell this year of my kids' supplies. Some wanted it whispered, and some wanted it soft spoken. We'll do this half soft spoken, and then when I get my other son's supply list (and buy everything), we'll do a second haul video in a whispered voice. Everybody wins!

When I was in school I could never quite understand why teachers got so insanely specific (almost militant like) when it came to certain color folders. In my experience, half of the time we never used them anyway.
"All students MUST HAVE:
Four, three-pronged paper pocket folders in the following colors: Cyan, Blood Orange, Mikado and Burnt Sienna." Haha

Thompson my mother is a teacher and I can tell you why they’re specific. Sometimes kids show up with the wrong items and sometimes they show up with nothing. I found her list to actually be quite vague and flexible.

alot of times things like color spcifics are becsue they use a spcific color for a spcific class so green notbook and folder is math yellow is since black is lit stuff like that

I’ll be a teacher hopefully by next year and I hope to have students with parents like yourself. You’re so willing to buy supplies for the classroom, not only your child, and it really helps out the teacher sooooo much. We get an average yearly budget of $200, if that, which is not nearly enough to buy all the supplies, assistive technology, books, flexible seating, learning tools, Kleenex, extra snack food, etc. for 25+ kids for 260 days of school. Thank you for being so understanding and helpful. A collaborative parent makes teaching so much easier and more enjoyable.

Every year, most parents don't send in anything. Not even a 50 cent pack of pencils. I know we all have more or less of an ability to send stuff in, but to not even spend a single dollar on anything? It bothers me because I have people in my own life who are teachers, and I hear how much they have to spend of their own money on just basic supplies for their classrooms. It infuriates me!
SouthernASMR Sounds it’s insane! And it makes teaching even more nerve wrecking. We already get paid very little and then having to spend hundreds of dollars out of our own pockets a year just to ensure our students get the bare minimum is so sad, not just for the teachers but for the students as well. Is it too much to ask that we be given the necessities needed to properly educate our students like were being paid to do? But parents like you make teaching so enjoyable and I hope you realize how much it is appreciated. Send your kids to my class please haha!

Woah this is so much stuff! In England, well the school I go to, only require you to have a pen, pencil, rubber, ruler and a calculator (with spares). Everything else is by choice to buy. Great video as always, I always come back to this one! Keep up the good work x
In Mexico we also have to provide materials at the begging of the year, things like air sanitizer, tissues, etc
This is the first year that they haven't asked for tissues, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, or Ziploc bags. I feel weird not buying that stuff.

In Portugal everyone is responsible for finding their materials... there are no lists, but they don't provide anything either. We only have the school books list, and they're expensive as heck

That's wild! I ran across my twin when I was a teenager. It was a very bizarre situation. I saw her twice in my hometown, once in a store and once from a distance at a bonfire party. She looked JUST LIKE ME. Several other people commented on seeing her, but no one had ever talked to her. Then she just disappeared. I never saw her again. It was like some X-Files type stuff or something.

My school used to give out school supply lists but they made it very short and lacked a lot of the things we actually needed in class, so I just watch your back to school shopping hauls and make my own from it. Love your videos! Thank you for sharing.

In the uk where I’m from we get our note books or exercise books when we start the school year so we don’t have to buy thing like these but most people do have to buy pens pencils rubbers folders
In the UK most of us only have to bring pens and pencils because our schools provide most of the stuff for us. But our shops therefore have limited stationary and school supplies :( - your shops look amazing for this stuff!

High school and college are both like that sadly! For me (in the US) it was/is paper, pens, colored pencils, pencils and folders.
Ugh, i never was a fan of composition notebooks. I'm alwayd bending my notebooks one way and the other, always drawing in them too!

In my country we don't get lists or anything, you need a notebook for every class and something to write with, other than that it's up to you, you can buy whatever you want. If something extra is needed, the teacher tells you.

Australia (well atleast when I was in school) have to do this too. I loved going back to school shopping with mum..she didn’t love it quite as much though 😂. And we liked to have pretty books so Mum would be there every year putting contact paper on ALL of our school books (there are 4 of us). I feel like that may be why she hated back to school shopping so much 😂
It really can be a chore if you're doing it for multiple kids. I did all the back to school shopping one year for my kids and my ex's three kids. Five kids in all. I was about half-crazy by the time I finished it all!
SouthernASMR Sounds oh gosh!! I do understand how it would be a pain in the butt to do, especially if all the kids are different grades so they all have different school supply requirements.
I think my Mum counted herself lucky that she didn’t have to shop for all 4 of us for too long, as my oldest sister finished school when I got into grade 2 (7yrs old).
I honestly don’t know why she continued to cover our school books though, she should have just said no 😂. The things you do to keep your kids happy I suppose!
I volunteered to do it one year, and then told my (now ex-)husband to get his OWN kids' stuff from there on out. Two kids was enough for me!

Just finished my back to school supply shopping for my kids (Kinder, 2nd, and 4th grades). My kinder and second grade lists had Kleenex, Lysol wipes, and plastic bags, but not for the 4th grader at the same school. 🤷🏼♀️ I got them for her class anyway because kids can be gross 😂

I don’t understand why people always complain about buying their kids school supplies, it makes sense to me...that way other kids don’t mess them up for everyone and they have their own to mess up. Office Max has folders for a penny so it’s not like these things are super expensive either. Honestly I think I would prefer buying my own haha!!

They don't have to provide it. It's not like their kid will get kicked out or anything. If parents don't provide things, for whatever reason, they're not punished for it.

That’s actually a great question, because there are SO many families in that situation. A lot of times the teachers provide supplies using their own money.
A lot of times there are giveaways at churches, or even libraries! They give away backpacks full of supplies to help.
I think there are lots of families that sadly go without, but there are great people to match and help with that!
Thanks for the comments guys! I’m so happy to see that there are ways in which children can get their supplies if their family can’t afford them. I have heard of teachers having to pay out of pocket, but it seems like that may be a rarity.

I remember preparing for my first day of 8th grade. Middle school was the best of times and the worst of times. Still, I'm about to be a freshman in college, and I would love to go back to the good old days!
In Ireland you buy all these and you buy all your books for up to 13 classes. Costs upwards of €500 so i dont think buying just stationary is a problem 😂

That used to be the case in Poland too, luckily now we borrow books from our school librarys at the beginning of the year and give them back at the end of the year, for free. I still remember looking for cheap books, driving to many different places and buying them from older kids in my school, ahh. I'm glad it changed, it costed so much money and time!

Pure Awesomeness! Nope haha, I’m going into my final year in “high school” and I’ve only ever heard of the local office of a political party (I know it’s weird) offering rental. Sometimes if you’re lucky your school will have novels on your course to rent but that’s rare :( the cost is a huge problem

I finally learned to stop buying all the crap on those lists. They never use most of it and a lot of it isn't used until the last semester. I have a closet full of unused supplies teachers have required. Now I wait until the first day of school because a new list ALWAYS comes home that completely different. It's absurd!
I always buy the stuff because, every year, without fail, only a few parents bother to send in anything at all. The teachers always appreciate what I send in because so few bother to do anything. They send in nothing. Not even a 50 cent pack of pencils. I find it hard to believe that so many people can't spare even 50 cents to help provide this stuff to their kid's classroom.
I've never been aware of the stuff I send in going to waste and not being used. In fact, within a month or two, they're asking for more supplies because they've run out of the paltry bit of stuff sent in at the beginning of the school year. It's just sad. The teachers end up paying for a lot of it out of their own pocket, and that really pisses me off.
I'll continue sending in stuff whenever it is needed. It's the least I can do for these people who are working hard and teaching my children every day.
SouthernASMR Sounds Oh I agree! When my girls were in elementary school, K-5, I was one of the only parents who donated "extras". It was really sad considering how inexpensive school supplies are when school starts. My oldest is about to graduate college and my youngest is starting 11th grade. 😭 Now I'm lucky to even see a report card without asking. LOL

It doesn't matter. They don't care at the school whether they're wide ruled or college ruled, as long as you have the required number of them.

I’m going into 8th grade too! My school posts the list online and sometimes they will tell you after school starts because some supplies are not online and you don’t really do actual learning the first day. also good idea buying so many pencils, I lose all of mine buy the second week lol.
These prices are pretty amazing, I live in Canada so our prices are always quite high, like a pencil case pouch here would be at least a few dollars not just 97 cents, the last pencil case pouch I bought was nearly 4 dollars. I remember going to the States when I was younger and was amazed by the cool stuff they had, but also how cheap things were in comparison. The more north you go in Canada the prices get insane!
Sam K Pencil cases are so expensive! In the UK, we have a shop called W H Smiths and the pencil cases in there are upwards of £5 to at least £8! It’s crazy 🙃

It's been since '15 that I was out of school.
I remember though even in high school I begged my mother to buy me the plastic folders, but would buy me the paper ones and they would always rip without fail!
Back when I was in school, the paper folders were the only option. They never held up through the entire year, no matter how careful I was! I hated them!
