Didn’t even reshoot Izzie’s part, so Katherine Heigl is actually looking at Jeffery Dean Morgan there… Glad they changed him for George though, gave some finality to George’s death.
Izzie looked and hesitated like that because it wasn’t her time to go like it was for George. He was on the other side of the elevator ready to move on, but she wasn’t. They intentionally had Izzie hesitate there to have the fans questioning if she was going to die as well.

A part of me feels conflicted by that ending because as much as I can see her happy with the life he described I still don't feel that was the right send off for her . Her actual send off was complete and utter crap . To me this was Izzies goodbye ... Her smile knowing she is with him , it's like she knows it's her time to go and it's ok . George is waiting for her . I feel like it would have given Alex's character more depth if he lost her ... This way versus their marriage falling apart and ending so brutally . The final scene would have shown Izzie hugging George , taking has hand and them walking off together ... To me this finale was almost perfect it just needed that extra punch heartbreak ... Of letting Izzie be with George for eternity .
Izzies problems irl with shonda probably contributed to her awful send off I as a veiwer ended up kind of hating her as a character the way she left alex
