Bonfire has the best customer service. They verified an order/donation I had made recently just to make sure everything was correct. I responded and emailed back and forth with a few employees and I was very impressed with how much they care. Take care and God bless, Kaye.
Old Timers made Cough Syrup from the Mullin bloom . Videos on you tube.
great video... :0
Could I ask you where you got your boots?
What are the beans? he said you can grow in the shade at the edge of the forest? Or maybe he meant the red berries?
I am so impressed by Daryl, Such an inspiration
Darrell has been such an inspiration to my family for years. We hope to meet him someday. We live in the foothills of Northwest Georgia and planted at least 7 different varieties of bamboo along the edges of our forest. In the early years, we actually killed bamboo plants, and it took quite a long while to get it established, and we've had it for 7 years and it is just beginning to really fill out into a gorgeous bamboo grove. This is the 1st year we've been able to comfortably use the culms for trellises and fencing. If you have the land, it is extremely valuable. We now hear new species of birds in the grove that we haven't heard in previous years, and it is the most cool, enjoyable place on our property to be on those hot, miserable muggy summer days.
Wonderful! His bamboo took a hit this past winter. Did you see my last video with him? www.clarksvilleonline.com/2024/04/18/meet-clarksvilles-own-mad-herbalist/
He's a true gardener. He's so excited when talking about and showing his crops. I can relate. Great video
Next video: Darrell demonstrating pressure canning! Tune in later today for a livestream at 5PM CST. God bless.
Me too. I love to talk about my gardens.
@@Latebloomershow A warm breeze passed by that wasn't you.
Still, I don't believe it isn't true.
A tornado whips through, thank God, not you.
Still can't believe most of what's true.
I hope someone buys or inherites his land that appreciates his gardens and keeps them going.
Please remember elephant ear is poisonous to animals
Puppies like to chew on it and it’s deadly to them
Greetings , thank you to our teachers for the posetive works 💚💚💚💯
Thanks for watching! Please see the other videos I've done with Darrell in my Bamboo Oasis playlist.
Darrell is a treasure. His garden is so inspiring.
You are so right! A world of knowledge and wisdom.
Now I know why you give so much praise to Darrell. His property is gorgeous!!!
Next video, Darrell demonstrating pressure canning of beans! Tune in today for a live at 5 CST.
I have been saying for YEARS now, the skills that are shown here really need to be incorporated into our schools. Schools usually have plenty of ground available. Even home schoolers should be educated with these skills. Gets the kids outside and busy doing something they can be proud of. Life skills matter. Lost art almost. Thanks for sharing Darrell's garden and tips.
Indeed, Aunt Jenny. Before the educational system was turned on its head in the recent two years, (indoctrination was already happening just not in our faces), and teaching life skills in class is a thing of the past. I remember 15 years ago helping in a school garden and was told by teachers (who have no more personal time to give outside class) that it depended on the parents, mostly women who have the luxury of not having to work one or two jobs who can come to schools and help develop and maintain gardens. And the success of the garden would change from class to class. I filmed a couple of school garden videos on one of the travel videos I used to do. There was an inspired group who developed a space beside the school in VA, but it's hard to keep things going when parents don't have the time or interest. Also, many people eat fast foods and processed foods, which doesn't help the mind to recognize the importance of healthy home-grown food. God bless.
@@Latebloomershow Yes, I can see the difficulty in maintaining consistency in a program of that sort. I do see the need today due to our food supply chain issues. Might be great to send to some Home School groups to play for their kids and invite participation. Then they can send in their videos. I, again, thank you both for the great video.
Who wouldn't want to have a life like that guy. So interested and excited about something. Obviously sharing his passion is something he loves to do.
well, if you get to eat all that good stuff , it's gonna be exciting to grow it.
I love your garden, how it's full of mysteries and surprises and a sort of randomness, letting nature (moths to voles to deer) have their day as well. I get discouraged seeing videos of spotless vegetables in serried ranks, but my garden attempts are closer to yours - and yours made it onto UA-cam! It's like art - there's not one right way, except the enjoyable way. Thank you for reminding me of that!
Thanks so much for watching @S Clark ! You can see more of my friend Darrell's garden in the playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PL7KEhv2No0ICNM51j0jPUeEGunhCX4-xb.html
Thank you. You sound like my kind of gardener.
As someone who has never worked with rock I Can guarantee anyone who has knowledge of stone work will tell you omg that's beautiful art
Daryl is right about bamboo, we have to welcome all types of plants. Bamboo is versatile, you can eat it, use it as building material, furniture, and in the garden, for fences, trellis, etc. If it spreads, but it off and use it anything you want and it’s free!!!
Good afternoon from Auckland, New Zealand ... 🙂🙂🙂

Gardens and plays the hangdrum. Wealth of info.
Who else is from a far away big city in another state watching these people be adorable with their accents over plants? Its so nice to see people appreciating ornamental and edible plants all over :) Really, really cool to see plants from my mom's country in TN!!!
I am watching this video from the opposite side of our planet. LOL
Kaye, He is a wealth of knowledge. I love talking to gardeners that are as excited about growing things as I am.
❣️😃👍❣️Just subbed you 💕🌻🌷🌱🌾🏵️🥀
This is my absolute favorite gardening video!
Thank you Christina!!
So glad you enjoyed it, Christina.
what a lovely energetic old guy. Beautiful white hair. oh and the garden is cool too.
Old !!!???!!! Glad you liked the garden.
Haha, Darrell's not old just prematurely white, and is very young at heart, haha.
I was an early bloomer according to my Mom and feel that I have been blessed to be here and now! I will be watching and learning, many thanks!
Great tip for making tomato cages - def will try that!
On behalf of the birds, NO, he does not need a CAT!🙀😼😾
This was awesome. What a cool guy!
That was magical. It looks like he had a great growing season. Love Mullien.
Very informative.
I have discovered so much mullein here!
We got slammed with Japanese beetles this year in TN. I hand picked them off and gave them to my very happy hens 😂
Hope to have chickens in the spring but I am going to try to have a chicken tractor if that’s possible on a sloped yard I don’t know
Me, too. Giving those chickens those beetles.
I did also in Nova Scotia I used bright yellow cups with water, veg oil ,and dawn dish soap it helped a lot
@@Latebloomershow Consider getting ducks if you have enough room for the mess they make from their water. They are less susceptible to disease, very cold tolerant, and their eggs are even healthier. Plus, if there is a shortage of fats and oils you can harvest duck fat. They have more than chickens do.
Thank you for sharing! I knew I was in the right place in East Tennessee! We all learn and the Earth provides if we pay attention and work positively!
Elephant ears 👂 are not only ornamental, you can eat the roots. And the roots grows other roots around and they are edible. Love your garden!
What do they taste like ?
How do you cook them ?
Yes following as I have many elephant plants !!! Oh my they multiply !!!
The most satisfying part of this video was when he pulled up the Johnson grass! That was great!
Yes, because it came up so easily, which means he has wonderful, loose soil, not hard clay like me.
I would love to visit this farm.
He looks so healthy and the food looks so good.
I'd love to see him have a learning and working retreat. He could have 2-4 people stay, maybe in a yurt on his property (?) for a few weeks. What a joy that would be.
My dad used to light up when he worked in his tiny garden
Yes! Gardens have that effect!
This is so good.. love his energy! You can tell he absolutely loves what he's doing.
Yes, and he will be returning to my place tomorrow to build a bamboo teepee trellis. Stay tuned! And in the meantime, here are a few more of Darrell: ua-cam.com/play/PL7KEhv2No0ICNM51j0jPUeEGunhCX4-xb.html
Fabulous
Thank you!
His excitement makes me excited! I love this!
He's that kind of guy! We have done several videos together now. Check them out! ua-cam.com/play/PL7KEhv2No0ICNM51j0jPUeEGunhCX4-xb.html
I, too, have been blessed with rocks 😆
Makes me miss my dad he to was great with plants. People would bring him their half dead plants and he would bring them back to life.
He was all about making use of found things in the yard or garden.
I subscribed because of him. I'll be watching the July garden tour soon.
I have many videos with Darrell as he is not tech savvy enough to do his own channel and has much to offer.
Lovely!
Awesome garden and tour. Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
Such a beautiful beautiful place. He has made a true heaven on earth and his excitement makes my heart so happy
He is full of love for gardening. Please join my Tuesday livestreams at 5PM CST (if you haven't already) as he is always on and full of fun comments and jokes.
Thanks to you guys i cut my dead bamboo and tomorrow will make a bamboo teppee trellis for my kiwi
Yay!!
I just wanted to tell your viewers you don’t need a flat bed trailer for cattle panels or what we call hog panels. Same difference. You just tie it up. Mine came tied into a circle with something sturdy. You can get it home in a regular bed easily. Just be careful releasing them, it’ll take two of you. Good video. 👍🏼
I'm going to try bringing one or more Cattle Panels home w/ a pickup truck, rolling & tying a yoga mat across the top of the cab so it can rest across it without scratching the paint, then lace rope-ties across the bed to secure it to the truck frame. They are 16' long and 4'4" tall.
Wow very nice
What a champion this man is 🌞❤️🌱🍻
Thank you for taking the time out to show his wound to us all 🧬🌱❤️
This year he injured his wrist and had to plant the whole garden with one hand and a trowel. He's suggesting I do a video of him demonstrating that.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoW!!!
He is quite something! And he's returning to my place on Monday to create a bamboo teepee bean trellis. Stay tuned! Here are more from his place: ua-cam.com/play/PL7KEhv2No0ICNM51j0jPUeEGunhCX4-xb.html
This is amazing. I totally am speechless with the beauty and diversity of this garden.
He's really good at that. Mixes things up, works visually, as well as smartly. I hope to have some of his wisdom rub off on me.
I lined up bales of hay that had been seating at a wedding in 2long rows on edge. Then pulled the hay apart a bit just to tuck in a cup of soil & a hosta or sedum baby. Egyptian onions, rose & lilac cuttings. The hay took care of everything on it's own....over the last couple of years it has decomposed to quarter height & the plants have become huge healthy plants to take to my daughter's new house where she will start gardens. STRAW that I had left over from my hens needs....it all started to grow in amongst the huge pots i lined trying to save on soil....and in the new beds around the patio I built last year. Just as bad as couch grass! Had to repot almost all of the 300 big pots I'd got ready to move to my daughter's. Thought it would be easier on the back w. less soil in those big pots....6 kiddie pools full and all around the woodpile & house foundation & infront of a fence...all will go! Too bad that most have bloomed already except the Deutzia & Lilies.
Bamboo is a grass. Fastest growing and tallest grass, so it will spread like grass. But you can harvest it and, because of its tensile strength, use it as scaffolding as we do in the Tropics!😉👍
It's even illegal in some places I'm not allowed to have it on my property because it's so invasive I live in Kentucky
@@reginafisher9919 can I grow it in Ohio? Thanks guys 😃👍❣️🌻🌷🌱🌾🥀
@@speaklifegardenhomesteadpe8783 it'll grow almost anywhere you need to be careful to control it though.

Absolutely love the teepee and his garden. Is it possible for Darryl to illustrate how to setup the teepee?
There will be a video sometime soon where I will set-up a teepee on Kaye's property. I'll tell you everything you need to know.
We didn't get a chance to do that this past year, so it will have to be in the spring.

Thanks for answering all my posts
I came across this video and I liked it
I love rocks my favorite thing 🥰
Tell Daryl his gardens are impressive, he certainly knows what he's doing, and thanks for the tip on how to get the tomplants back inside the support.
You can eat the banana trunk core. Sautéed in butter it is delicious.
Thanks, didn't know that. I will give it a try. That could change how I do things around here!
I slid the 16 foot cattle panels on top of my sienna and tied it down by myself, since southern states refused to help me, and I am am older lady.
Love , love the video 😍 TY!
Please subscribe! 😍
Heads up..i beleive the ‘elephant ear’ decorative with the big roots is dasheen. Very edible and delicious nutrious root. If he would post a pic of the root..to be sure.
Big part of Caribbean cooking.
Thanks for this video! He is very knowledgeable and full of energy! Does he sell his food? Surely he can’t preserve it all. Seems like it would take all your time just taking care of it all.
Well, he's retired and taking care of his mother, but he's very good about preserving what the squirrels and pests don't get.
LOL... the dreaded canning... I think we all feel the same way about canning, but I sure am glad I force myself to do it.
Amazing!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
This was informative, interesting & well presented. Darrell is a great teacher & gardener. I was inspired. He has a gift to do what he does, he's very good at it.
Amazing information, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
We bought a 16’ cattle panel at Tractor Supply to use as an arch for running pole beans and peas. They placed it on it’s side edge, bowed in half, and put it in the back of our truck, it has an 8’ truck bed. Of course we used several tie downs and drove slowly.
I did a whole acre in cattle panel for my goats. The hardest part about working with the panels is that they're so bendy.
That's how all kinds of farmers and gardeners bring them home, a regular truck bed will do it! You can get several this way.
If you call ahead they will prep a bunch of them into a big teardrop wired to keep them secure then they will use the forklift to load in your truck bed. My son picked up 8 for me with no problem in his regular bed pickup
Great video. I'm striving to become this guy. Working on the beard now, garden with a teepee next, long hair last 😂
Love that he plays the hang drum ❤
In the caribbean we use the soft younger elephant ears. We call them Dasheen bush or calaloo bush. We cook it down with coconut milk.
I ate calaloo in Jamaica - loved it! I didn't know it was that plant.
@@darrellluck7230 yes. And the bulbed roots are call Dasheen. It it famous here. I've watched many videos from the US and it's the first time seeing someone with a plant. Its amazing. Keep up the great work. You've inspired me to build a tipi.
❤ from the caribbean.
I planted Calaloo (amaranth family?) in CA, but it didn't come up.
Kaye Kittrell Late Bloomer; I loved this gardening video. I’m an #organic, #Heirloomseedsaver, gardener. It’s great to see others who are going back to the old ways.
AWESOME
I love lima beans
I love the instrument you played, beautiful sound. When I was a child my brother and I had a garden out of necessity. Then later when I married my husband and I had gardens . Now that I'm sick and alone, I can't do the things I love to do any more. But it's nice to be able to see someone else do it.
Diana, I pray for your complete recovery. I am alone so I know all about that but I do hope you get much better and very soon.🙏🏻
@@Latebloomershow Thank you for your prayers, I can sure use them. I have end stage Cancer and living in at home Hospice.

Jesus is our Healer, i hope you are talking to/ listening to Him.
I wish I could get it..our Walmart sells Noni juice, not sure if its organic or not. About the silver, I probably couldn't afford that, if someone did sell it here. This town has less than 5,000 people in it.
Diana Morgan I lifted you up to the Father. Your story touched my soul.
This is an awesome video.... I'd love to get some a that bamboo...
Wow. Nice .
Tune in later today for a livestream at 5PM CST. God bless.
You don't need a 16 ft flatbed to bring home a cattle panel. When you buy one, bring a large carabeener or some kind of clip (bailing twine works in a pinch). You can roll up a 16 ft cattle panel and tie it up in an 8 f5 truck bed.
Absolutely paradise. Love the bamboo!
Thank you!
Nice share!
We move the 16 foot cattle panels by putting them into the back of the pick up tented up like the hoop that you will be using them for in application. And then we just use tiedowns to hold them in place while driving…;)
I love the birdhouses.
Darrell is such a joy and full of brilliance!!!

I would love to learn to help him with canning his beans. My hubby and I are retired I’m 70, he’s 74, just a lazy life in SoCal lol.
Very impressive, gardening is something I enjoy doing and as I do it I’m reminded of the joy I had gardening with my grandparents as a little boy.
Thank you so much for the info I have a back yard garden can’t wait to put up teepee
Yay! Thanks for watching!
I grew broccoli and swiss chard and lettuces specifically for all my chickens. They love brightly colored Swiss chard over any lettuce. Interesting.
That reminds me, my first year of this channel I toured a family farm in N. California, and she grew brassicas inside her chicken run. She also had her compost bins in there. I think they would get ravaged by predators here. In fact, Darrell's chicken run is completely fenced, top and sides with double fence. This is why I have not ventured into having chickens, but now with this avian flu business, I wish I had!
A settlers traveled from Pennsylvania down the Ohio river they would look for these particular canebreaks to determine their locations. If correct, as these canebreaks are documented I'm historical writings. Maysville, Kentucky was one. Also the Louisville, Kentucky area was marked by one as well.
Wasn’t Maysville devastated by tornado a few months ago?
Awesome place, good job
