    I have a pool that is one and a half years old, I have a pool company that comes every Tuesday to clean it, I mentioned to the girl how often should the filters be cleaned because the pool is one and a half year old and you haven't cleaned the filters yet and she's like really? So she texted her boss and the boss text me back saying somehow I got not put on the filter cleaning list and she was sorry and she would send a guy out Friday to clean the filters. $105 to do it. I thought that was quite a bit so I did it myself, like you said the most difficult part was putting the lid back on and sealing it, I didn't take the gasket off and cleaned it, but I did wash it down, but I put the lid on twice and it leaked, so I took the gasket completely off and cleaned it really good put silicone lubricant on it reinstalled it and no leaks. I purchased a filter cleaning sprayer that goes on the end of the hose that I will use from now on. The filters were not actually that bad for not being cleaned for a year and a half because I always check the pool every day and clean the skimmer basket, and I hardly go swimming, but I will start ckeaning the filters every couple of months now.
    good video you posted.

    An impact wrench makes the removal and replacement of the filter housing band much, much easier and faster.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  Рік тому +1

      Yes it does, but we recommend hand tightening to finish so the bands don't strip.

    First thing you wanna do is when you're getting ready to clean your pool filters as make sure you have your gun on your hip.

    Hi there. Thank you for this great informative video. Most of the other filter cartridge cleaning videos have those tiny filters that are easy to clean, so this one was very helpful. I have a question regarding what you referred to as the "breather" on the top of the cartridge connecting element inside the filter system. What is the purpose of this "breather" and is it an essential element of the filter system? During our last cartridge replacement, the tip of this item broke off and we are deciding whether we need to replace it somehow. I realize this video was posted 8 months ago, but maybe if you get to this you can address the issue. Thanks again regardless, happy Monday in August!

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  10 місяців тому

      The breather is an important part of your filter system, it allows air to be pushed out on startup and then you can secure a proper seal of your system when you close it. It is a good idea to get this fixed, otherwise it can cause issues with the rest of your system. Best of luck to you!

    Just drain the entire filter housing first. No need to wait until the filters are out to completely drain the housing.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  Рік тому

      That's true, just make sure filters are out if you choose to drain and rinse the housing to assure you have it clean if you're going to go through the exercise. With routine maintenance usually the housing does not need to be drained everytime. It is a good idea if you are around an area under construction or heavy dirt has gotten into the pool.

    Great video. What is the average charge for pool guy to clean your filters 2x per year?

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  10 місяців тому

      I can't speak to the costs specifically for your area but in DFW cleaners usually charge around $125-$150

    Bands have busted on mine. I didn’t realize you had to replace them after 3-5 years. I kept wondering why our jets didn’t have much flow

      Filter life greatly depends on the contaminants in the pool and the maintenance of them (i.e. cleaning frequency). Reducing oil and using a robot vacuum with its own dirt collector greatly extends the life. Typically, we see around 2 years with good maintenance and no very little oils.

    We cleaned ours today. We were shocked there was thick, slimy, gray colored debris pouring out with rinsing. Pounds of it. Do you have any idea what this could be? Thank you.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  11 місяців тому

      Old broken down algae can sometimes create that effect. We see that alot after pools have turned green and heavy amounts of shock and chlorine have been used to straighten it out.

    Mine are over 5 years old and now clean to a grey colour. How do I know when to replace them? The pool still looks clean and I run at 20 PSI.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  Рік тому

      Wow! That's a lot of longevity! Great job keeping up with them! I would recommend changing them by now. The paper elements will break down over time, and I like to make sure filters are solid and able to perform. The choice is of course yours however. That's our opinion..

    I just have my filter cleaned and I have an indoor in the ground pool. And I still don't get enough suction to clean my pool with my vacuum.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  11 місяців тому

      You might check to see if your vac plate has a "blow-by" pressure relieving valve that may need to be further closed to increase vacuum pressure. Also, check the hose for kinking while vacuuming; sometimes weak spots occur without you realizing it and the pump suck them flat while you're trying to vacuum. Finally, check to see that you have a good seal on the vac plate and that the gasket hasn't broken down. Let me know if none of these work and we can look deeper into possibilities

    I assume due to the oversize of the filter with my pool?

    • @StartVisit

      looks like it depends from how bad is your pool and surrounding, for example windy weather sand dirt pushing in, tree pollen in spring.

    • @CrystalEdgePools
      @CrystalEdgePools  Рік тому +1

      Hi Thomas. I don't recommend waiting that long. Waiting until a filter is completely full is not a good approach in our book. Besides that, it takes a real long time to clean. Short cleanings more often we've found to increase longevity in the elements.
