  • I built a working Lego bowling alley with a working Lego pinsetter and finally I can showcase it to all of you! It's been 6 months since I started on the bowling alley and after 7 episodes of me working on it, it is complete and fully functional and fully automatic using the lego ev3 and lego power functions systems. The machine was a working pinsetter including a pinsweep that is able to sweep the pin into the collection and pin cycler where it is separated from the bowling ball and is cycled up to the bowling pin pinsetter system. The pins are framed and set into the pin carriage which is then lowered to drop the pins onto the lane in 45 seconds. After the player bowls the machine automatically detects that using the lego ev3 sensors and drops the pin sweep as well as picking up the pins then sweeping and finally dropping the pins back onto the lane for you to pick up the spare.

    Thank you all for the support! While other Lego bowling alleys on UA-cam take up a larger footprint, they are not fully enclosed "completed" machines but they are still incredible large creations. At 45.4 seconds, the machine competes for the world record for fastest Lego pinsetter cycling system for a new frame as well.
    What should my next video or machine be? Let me know!

      @@AstonishingStudios hahaha I can’t retire now, there’s so much ahead! Currently I have a few video ideas lined up with each one focusing on impressing, entertaining, or inspiring others to build machines through tutorials and more series (hopefully weekly instead of only monthly this time) 😂

    Congratulations man! You made history!!!! I remember when you first had the idea of making it and I had so many questions, but with each part of the series, those questions were answered. I LOVE the part where the 10 pins all drop down at the same time. So satisfying. This video better blow up or I'll be mad

    Remarkable work. Been really fun watching the machine evolve over the last seven videos. This style of video content is ingenious.

      That really means a lot thank you! I took a gamble on the content style and wow did it pay off! Currently wrapping up the bowling alley project with a video released tomorrow morning and plan to have a small project between another series. Any recommendations of another build this style would fit?

    Well that was just spectular! Absolutely amazing machine. It has been a pleasure to follow the journey and to now see the final result. Two friends of mine and myself actually picked up bowling a few months ago just for the heck of it, so we've gone bowling like once a month for 4 months lol. I'm not sure if that subconsciously makes me appreciate this machine even more, but it is definitely a masterpiece

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому

      Thank you so so much! I wish I could pick up bowling more often. For now I’ll have to just stick with Lego bowling, arguably almost as fun 😂

    • @LucasJensenOfficial
      @LucasJensenOfficial 2 місяці тому

      @@LegoCloud Yeah and much cheaper also, we usually bowl late Saturday evening when it's more pricey, and then we order a 2-liter jug of beer, so it's usually at least like 75 dollars 😅 and that's just bowling, we always go back to their place and buy snacks and alcohol so it can easily become 100 dollars. It's always a pleasure, but obviously not something we could do every day

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому +1

      @LucasJensenOfficial haha sounds like a great time! Bowling definitely isn’t cheap but it is such fun. Gotta take into account how much Lego I had to buy though, made my wallet stress for a little bit 😂

    • @ThinkCleverAndSmart
      @ThinkCleverAndSmart 2 місяці тому

      Also, I really don’t want to be that guy… but… I know of a larger working pinsetter on UA-cam. Built by a guy called NLF Daniel and posted 5 years ago. Now don’t get me wrong, I knew about that one and you still impress me enormously!

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому

      Thank you so much! I just checked out his video and his does seem to be about as large or larger although it is difficult to say. It's also difficult to say what would qualify for a "complete" machine if it has to be enclosed etc. I may remove it from the title but am unsure. Is mine the only one with the 20 pin system and thus the fastest or have you found others with the same system but mine is just quicker at 45 seconds?

    • @ThinkCleverAndSmart
      @ThinkCleverAndSmart 2 місяці тому +1

      @@LegoCloud I think you can keep it in the title no problem. As you say, it may be about the same size, although my personal opinion is that it doesn’t have to be enclosed since they aren’t IRL. It does need all the basic features though, and you got that. I believe mine is the fastest overall (and I run 23 pins) but at your size yours is the fastest if it’s faster than Daniels. I’m sorry to sound like a snob or something, it’s definitely not what I wanted. If anything, I just wanted to bring some light on the only other Lego pinsetter I know of in this size and that means yours is an outstanding accomplishment :)

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому +2

      Not snobby at all, I really really appreciate it!! I definitely thought yours was faster, I think your right on my scale I am the fastest though, especially of the ones of similar larger pin size. Again, I really appreciate the information, it is so cool to see others having the same passion/ideas! :)

    Looks awesome! But how does it count the pins in the second half of each frame if they are swept away without checking first? Should be an easy software fix

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому

      Short answer, it doesn't. While I had a program that would count pins until it did not have any more pins to cycle then for it to sweep the rest, thus counting the pins in that second half, it took way too long adding an average of a minute between frames. In the first half, it is able to count the pins while the machine is setting them back down etc though

  • @PinDominator
    @PinDominator 2 місяці тому

    Congrats on this achievement!! Love the overall concept of how the pins are distributed to how the ball returns. Looking forward to seeing updates on this machine! Keep it up! 👍
    Edit: are you using rubber bouncy balls for your bowling balls?

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  2 місяці тому

      Thank you very much! Unfortunately…I’ll be taking the machine down shortly to create new machines that will be even more impressive (and hopefully much more frequent). The bowling balls are large bouncy balls so that way the chain can “bite” into them to return the ball. Although that also means it is difficult to put any spin on the ball

    this is very cool but you might want to speed up the motors

    • @LegoCloud
      @LegoCloud  13 днів тому

      Thank you so much! Unfortunately that is the maximum speed of the motors since I had to gear them down to increase torque since the pinsetter is so heavy. That makes them output a slower amount although they are spinning at max speed
