Yes it's cheaper, but it's not just a economical thing but social, as you can see Pacman is eating tons of rice. they only put a little bit of meat on the plate and then eat it with a ton of rice. #3. Although they don't show anyone doing it here. Filipinos use edge of the spoon as a knife to cut food on the plate. I thought this was crazy when I first saw it, but I was shocked how well it works and love doing it because it saves using and washing silverware. #4. as someone pointed out at around 1:35 Pacman gestures to someone to come eat. I've seen more common in Philippines people gesture buy pinching their figures together (as they also often eat rice w/ their hands) and point to their mouth and use a very common phrase of "Let's eat." #5 you don't see large serving spoons as it is common for Filipinos to just share the main plate and use their own silverware to get it. For me it don't like this because it spreads germs, but Filipinos are not that ashamed to share food like this, even when socializing with others while drinking. #6. You notice a large bowl of soup but no serving bowls. it's common for Filipinos to just pour the juice and meat onto the rice. Crazy to think of all the differences when it comes to eating, but these are the main ones I've picked up while living in the Philippines.

Eating meat without rice for most Filipinos is like eating a burger or hotdog without a bun for the average American. It just isn't right and on the verge of sacrilegious lol. On average it's more rice (carbs) than meat on most Asian dishes. I'm Filipino and grew up in the states but I still instinctively avoid too much meat just because my stomach can't handle it. It tends to make me sluggish as my body seems like it needs more time to digest all that protein haha.
