Sorry, rest of the car world, but a show of this magnitude, variety, and caliber of vehicles is only possible in Southern California. Hot damn, what a show! And of course those gorgeous antique aircraft weren't just a static display, those suckers flew! And all for a good cause. Much respect from up the coast in Santa Cruz.
I am also stunned by those bathtub Nashes. When I was about twenty I tried ot buy one from an old lady. The next 45 years I never saw another one. Nashes were extremely rare in Switzerland,
RE Project Granny, I had breakfast with Roger Tronske every Saturday morning for years. I missed the past 2 Friends of Steve McQueen shows as my Healey is in the paint shop. I hope to be back next year.
Nice overview of the car show Randy. Yes I remember the Mustang and the rocket car from your friend's estate. Didn't they also sell off an Avenger? Any update on what happened to it?
McQueen favored antique Indian motorcycles. I worked at a cycle restoration shop in the 1970's in Fullerton, Starklite Cycle, that restored many of his. He visited us a couple times a month. I once went to his gated home in Malibu to make a minor repair on a bike then to bring his 4-cylinder Indian back to the shop for service. On the way back, a CHP bike officer stopped me for a fictitious reason. He really wanted to look closely at the 4-cylinder. When he learned it was McQueen's, he asked his picture be taken with it. Done.
I remember Starklite Cycle! I wandered in there a couple times as I was local and curious. I remember a guy either in that shop or a neighboring one that had a home built electric submarine...looked like the ultimate death trap, I often wondered about the logic of electricity under water...what could go wrong??
@@Carchaeology I don't remember an electric sub in our shop (would have taken up too much space), but I can think of a neighboring shop that might have had it. One was used by an old WWII LST vet for various machining parts. The shop on the other side altered old cars for movies. One was the The Great Gatsby limo later shot up with a tommy gun during filming.

Not a bomber- DC-3 or C-47. Great pics!
Yeah, I rode in those, and C-46's, in Arctic Alaska in 1972.
Thanks for the clarification!

That was a great show. Such variety and quality. Reminds me of the Half Moon Bay Fly In Drive in show. Thanks for the coverage.
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing collections. Steve was the Man.
No doubt!

I don’t know what happened to the avenger…it sold and the buyer was very happy, but he has not kept in touch.
I was there and it is one of the best car shows I've ever attended.

Might have been the ww2 Vet guy…it was an odd mix of stuff in there if I’m remembering correctly.
Wow, like three or more shows in one!
Yeah!
