Thanks! A long time since I have done brakes and I had forgotten what that vertical clip was... you remind me here; it makes a loud noise when the brakes get worn down/time to replace. I needed to know that. Hard to explain why, but take my word for it. The manuals don't say what it is and they don't give it a name. No name means you can't do searches under the name. None of the other videos I watched mentioned it either.

I'm going to make an 8-hour brake job video with me taking 7 hours to remove the caliper bracket bolts.

Best video I’ve seen. I’m capable of doing this. Just don’t have the time to prepare & get working.

Just a note that one should check the color of their brake fluid too, and if it is a little dark, a brake job is a great time to take care of the fluid too. Maybe TheDIYGuyDOTnet can post a vid?!

Very nicely done video...thankyou! Negligible wasted time, straight to the point. Excellent camera angles and explanation. You should teach a How-to course for DIY videos.
I am looking to replace my 2014 OB's rear brakes. Apparently they don't last as long with the advent of traction-control and ABS. Something about no longer having a proportioning valve.
My rear pads were replaced at 33k, and now are making grinding noises at 55k. :/

in general, Subaru's are pretty easy to work on,, I have had 6 of them,, yes, they are my favorite modern cars,

Yes they are, Even more so as they have kept most things the same thought the years with only slight changes. But more of the sizes of sockets and wrenches are the same. Most things are interchangeable between years and models.

Wow, rotor pulled off, you must not be in a Northern State. I was looking for what sized bolts to screw into rotor to press rotor off

On some of the newer ones they moved to an electronic e-brake where there is a button to apply the e brake no hand brake.

Yeah mine has the button shouldn’t be an issue, I am also doing my belt along w tensioner and idler pulley I have a very light chirp that’s annoying the hell out of me dealer wanted over a grand do to it no way am I Payin that

@@0blivionStud10s Shouldn't be unless its set a little tight when you go to remove the rotor. Some of the prices people tell me seem a bit high but it seems like that is what it cost 1000$ each time you bring it in kinda like not leaving a store without spending 100$. Good luck with the repairs and thanks for watching and don't forget to give the video a thumbs up / like. Thanks

Should you put brake quiet stuff on the outside of the pads?

    • @PhillTheVwGuru

I never have, as it has the possibility of getting on the braking surface. Never had an issue with pads sticking or squealing , just wire brush the rust.
