    Excellent work! Exact same thing happened to my BB400. I suspected the flywheel. You confirmed what it was. Great job explaining the steps you took and the results you got! 👍

    Have a '90s 350 BigBear with no start. Compression is there. Have had carb, cleaned and rebuilt. Strong spark. But no start. Beginning to think its timing and possible woodruff key as well.

    wau. I had also broken flywheel key in my Yamaha 450 grizzly. But it can affect valve timing? I don't understand now. doesn't the position of the flywheel only affect ignition timing?

  • @joedurt3364
    @joedurt3364 2 роки тому

    Does the flywheel just get pushed back on and than later tightened with the boltfor the pullcord assembly?
    Did u use a rubber mallet or anything to seat it on the woodruff key? Doing this same fix on my wife's bike right now :)

    • @huntnfishnuts5880
      @huntnfishnuts5880  2 роки тому +1

      You can tap it back on with a rubber mallet just make sure it goes on square, crank bolt holds it in there’s a torque spec for it but you will have to check what it is for your bike.

    that key does not actually hold the flywheel in the correct position. It's just a mounting aid. The flywheel is wedged into place with that bolt.

    Hi I’m fairly sure I have the same issue can I check the piston is at tdc by measuring it by removing the spark plug and checking when the piston is at its highest point then check the ignition timing is at tdc also or do I have to remove the timing chain cover

    • @huntnfishnuts5880
      @huntnfishnuts5880  Рік тому

      You can remove the spark plug and use a skinny screwdriver in the hold to see when the piston is at tdc, there’s a sight window plug at the crankshaft, I show it in the video you can check the tdc timing mark through the window. There will be two marks one before true tdc that’s a spark timing mark the other one is true tdc.

      There will be one mark on the cam at the top for the cog and the crank will usually have two marks one for mechanical base timing and one before top dead center for spark timing, you need to check your chain at top dead center so if your cam is on you should be able to see the top dead center mark on your crank in the sight window, if you cannot then it’s not in time. You have to check where the marks are for your particular machine as there all a bit different. Check your basic stuff first, spark then fuel then compression, if you’d timing is off your compression will be low.

    I'm here now for my confession. After I let a kid start up my Kodiak for fun, it later refused to start. I checked everything - connections, switches, fuses, battery, grounds, relay, even regulator. NO LUCK. Then I sat on the quad and tried to remember what he might have done while sitting on it. Then I discovered a very small button I NEVER KNEW EXISTED under the starter switch - the engine kill switch. So after replacing the solenoid and almost submitting to a mechanic for help, I found the problem. The kid had hit that button by accident I never knew it. I told my wife I had finally found a loose plastic wire connector, so we'll leave it at that.

    • @huntnfishnuts5880

      The Magnitogorsk will not turn its mounted to the inside of the case. The starter should engage the flywheel edge to start the bike. Check the engine is not seized, it should turn when you pull the rope, if the starter clicks and does. It turn you may have a bad starter solenoid, try tapping on the starter to see if it starts to work while pushing the start button. Check you have proper voltage at the starter should be the same as battery voltage. You may have a bad starter , make sure it’s aligned properly with the flywheel. Take it off the bike and bench test it put power and ground to it and see if it functions. If the starter won’t work try starting it with the pull start.

      Probably bad one way bearing and the magneto does spin it's the flywheel or another name for it the stator is attached to the case and is stationary but If you have a good flywheel key I would say that one way bearing or gear check all gear clearances.

      If you changed the key you had to have taken off the timing chain, when you install the crank flywheel there’s a timing mark on it you have to see through the sight window, take the timing cover off the cam and make sure the cam timing mark is lined up with the case mark and the flywheel mark is in the window, if not you have to remove the case cover and set the chain so the marks Line up properly.
