Very informative as always! Thx
good dilligent and comprehensive material. great job, thank you
My pleasure 👍🏻
Thanks for a super straightforward and easy to understand video 👌🏼
How is the zoom being operated?? Has it some phisical buttons outside?? or u can use it only by touchscreens options??
Great review Ben.. just to check can it take construction Timelapse which may take months? How long if continuous Timelapse (interval 120s) can last?
Hey Ben, truly informative video.
Request to make a video about ace, I am looking for a action camera, but I am really confused Between ace, action 4 & GoPro 12
Thanks for the review Ben; always enjoy your tutorials and product introductions. Kind of on the fence with this one; I have a few Insta 360 products now and am generally happy with them, but I also have two DJI Action cameras (and a few of their drones) and despite them being old now they have been indestructible workhorses for me. Thinking of getting the Action 4 based on that as well as better pricing here. Don’t need that AI stuff for sure but can see why some might like it. Have a great 2024!
Hi Ben, I have a DJI Action 3 which I use underwater, but have found the image distorted on the periphery when panning. Will this camera be the same? I intend to use a housing. Thanks, Pete
Well done video..Thank You
hello ben
i want to ask you if its fits in a jeanz pocket or not
and could i use it as a normal camera like pocket camera or its only used for action camera
Thanks Ben!
No worries 😉
Fantastic job on the review vid!
Aside from the 8K, does the regular Ace have the double tap, the flip screen, night filming capabilities, and the no 30 minute shut off? I do a lot of fishing content. I use a CPL. Does Insta360 have a CPL option? Do they have a media mod kit? Can I add any microphone? Also, will their remote device allow you to connect multiple cameras for B-roll footage?
Thanks for this review!
Thanks for this... I'm talking myself into getting this camera ;-)
@BenClaremont did you have any other setting on that could make it heat up more or less? (Apart from the resolution of course)
46min os VERY decent but if it went beyond it would be unreal.
I need to know how the batteries perform in sub zero temps, I live in Norway, where I live it gets down to -15 at the coldest sometimes, mostly down to -10C.
up to 30C in the summer.
Absolutely awesome video, Ben. It's time to upgrade my 1st gen DJI Action one day. I am also loving the Garmin Dashboard feature introduced.
Thanks 🙏🏻
I can see some company bringing out a lens protector, but the only trouble with that is how it will affect the image. Also that flip up screen could be a problem if it’s used for an action camera, the ribbon connection could be damaged.
youuu are theee maaan ! really thank you so good job ! I have a question Ace pro and pocket 3 .. Who is win . im freestyle football turkey champion and show maybe gym workout training and football field videos trick learn video Which one would you choose?
Haven’t used pocket 3 so I can’t tell you
Always the best honest Reviews, delivered with a touch of humour when describing a "feature" of dubious value.
Cheers Ian
whole point for me is underwater shooting. i'm going somewhere super special & need a trustworthy device (vs gopro's overheating & freezing up). my backup camera is a lumix compact dslr w leica lens that i adore in many situations so the leica & sensor size of this one got me interested. the low light aspect is great, but if i'm snorkeling & something gorgeous shoots up within inches of me it'll be out of focus w this one, right? what do u think? my main interest is as an underwater camera. i'll bring a good one for land or sky
I'm seeing a lot of comments about the non-replaceable lens protector. I use external sticky lens protectors on my action cameras, I think that would protect a lot of what happens. I don't see a lot of gravel and stuff though, maybe some of the road guys have a point.
Thanks Ben! Question...does the insta360 X3 microphone adapter also fit into the ace pro? And will the X3 remote control also work with the ace pro? I hope for both, otherwise you need to purchase a lot of extra accessories
Currevtky on my 2nd dji osmo action and never thought id leave, ive just been head turned. Be very intrigued to see these here in Scotland. Great video mate . Thanks
Thank you for your review... the thing I don't understand is if the insta360 Ace Pro has the horizont lock functionality that the gopro and dji action have
This would be crucial to know as a Whitewater Kayaker! Does anyone have this info? 🤔
Best video on this cam Good Job👍
Thankyou 🙏🏻
curious to hear any of the snow sports people who are using this currently and if they would buy it again. Also one thing that nobody has mentioned does this record pause on the screen encounter any issues when its body mounted? is the screen that sensitive or can it be locked so it records and only stops or pauses at the press of the button?
Overall this a really great camera. My only gripes are that for an action cam this absolutely needed replaceable lens guard because this will get destroyed on your first beating and, that looking attentively to the footage I find the corner resolution of the lens being not up to par with anything near 8K resolution. Hopefully on a future version of this camera, they equip it with a replaceable lens protector of some sort and better/brighter optics. Overall this is definitely a step forward in action cameras, thanks for the video :)
So before I wast my money. I wanna ask do you think this will work for me I wanna Gil me riding first bikes. Hope to hear from you.
@@MillionAirMindSet32 yes of course, this camera will be great for that kind of video.
I’m a super noob when it comes to filming, Iv recently bought a lumix s5iiX for my UA-cam channel and am super happy, I’m considering this to complement my filming with close up shots that the camera body may not always be accessible too, will pic quality be at 4k be negligible enough in difference to smoothly integrate into lumix video edit?
action cameras cannot do close up shots.
Great video bro ❤
🙏🏻
is there a stealth mode, where I can clip on my shoulder and walk around WITHOUT it showing its ON?
You have to multiple the aperture by the full frame/sensor size ratio. So at the end the full frame equivalent apertures would be F13 for the Ace and F10 for the Ace pro.
Hey Ben, I do recordings of my airplane's instrument panel using a chest mount in 4K, I later stabilize the video in software (iMovie) which crops it down significantly depending on how shaky I was. This of course loses definition and crops the image, and I find it hard to later zoom in on a particular instrument without making it blurry. Would you say that the 8K (4x4K) camera would be much better at zooming into the shot (especially since it is already stabilized)? Ciao, Marco.
Hi Marco, the stabilization is really good, you shouldn’t need to crop much at all. I think this is the perfect camera for your use case 👍🏻
@@BenClaremont Thanks Ben, I enjoyed your review. Ciao, Marco.
Hi there mate, great video, very informative.
Were you using the camera's internal microphone for making this video?
Can it do the job for voice recording in a room environment?
Thanks- just the opening was the inbuilt mic 👍🏻
Sir I like this. But I see a lot of people complaining about randomly shutdown issue...can you tell me about this?
I want to use it for motovlog...
Seems like a very solid action camera from Insta360. And positions them to take on GoPro and DJI in this category. Great review, and thanks for sharing.
No worries!
@@BenClaremonthey man, I wanna ask, Before I wast my money- Would this work for me? I wanna ride my dirt bike
Edit- I wanna ride my dirt bike and film it
How doe the Ace Pro stack up against the 1" Leica mod?
can u stream straight to your pc with this cam?
Would be interesting to see how much distortion it has, if it has corrections. For me having no distortion is important, as I do mountain bike POV vids.
Frankly this Camera is a Game Changer for a Multitude of Reasons mentioned by Ben and Many other UA-camrs! Can't wait to get one!
For sure 👍🏻
Hey guys. I want to make footage from inside my car, want to mount the camera on the dash facing me, on me facing the road, outside the car, and probably another place. Also want to connect a wireless mic to the camera. What do you guys suggest?
Firstly I’m no pro, I’ve been watching a couple of reviews on the ace pro. What I’d like to know is around SD cards. It seems the default recommended is to use a v30 but it seems like if shooting in 4-8k SD card should be v60-v90 also helping transferring higher quality video data. Or maybe my understanding is wrong. In particular I’ve just invested in Apple 5k display, and MacBook M3 setup. Love to hear about making data transfer speeds quicker with and if higher resolution SD cards can help, and if they are actually compatible with this device?
Hi Natalie, there’s no need really as the V30 cards work fine. They’re not slow and your MacBook should process the footage quickly.
The zoom is the best feature for me 👌🙌.
Yeah it’s awesome 😎
Great review Ben. A few things about the camera that I can't get over, for my use case anyway (motovlogging), are the irreplaceable lens protection and the flip screen. I've dropped a few action cameras whilst riding and they all survived with a few scratches and had to replace the lens covers a couple times. Not so sure how this one would fare a fall from a fast moving bike.
A couple things I haven't heard anyone mention so far in their reviews is the over saturation and over sharpness of the footage. Also, I don't find the video to be of a much better quality than any other action camera, bar in low light.
Strap the ace pro to a motorcycle, an airplane wing or a skydiver together with a GoPro or a DJI OA4 and I bet you can't tell which is which.
You can use lens & screen film protector. It will give you at least some protection. In low light it blows both DJI & GoPro out of the water. Happy shooting. 😊
I think us in the comments section are aware of the over saturation. I just cannot get over the irreplaceable lens and the 1/4 inch missing from the bottom. 4 micro sized hooks to hold a relatively heavy action cam in "actionable" scenarios just screams 'break hooks, now break lens'. The low light is beautiful though.
@@paulchin4094 True, low light is its main strength, I reckon. Not much usefull for me but, yeah, it's great. I still think that the Ace Pro is a one trick pony though.
@@TechieTard Agree. It's not only a potential point of failure but also you need to buy one for each different mounting point, making it even more expensive to run, makes an already bulky camera even bulkier and not worth the extra 20 seconds it takes to unscrew the thing when you change mounts. Let's face it, if anyone, like me, has to stop their bike and de-bike to mount the camera elsewhere, it's not the extra 20 seconds that are going to make a difference. Plus, the lighter and smaller the camera is, the better.
Great review! Thank you, Ben. I'm almost sold... I just need your opinion on using this for a sit down vlog kinda like a podcast? I live in a very small room and I'd struggle with space for bigger camera. So I just need something small but effective, compact, handy, and versatile.Would this be perfect for me? Does this also have a microphone jock or something I can connect my portable microphone? Thank you!!:)
Yes to all of the above 👍🏻
if I where to get a action camera this would be my main consideration. but I will wait for next 360 camera instead. still very hooked on the ability to capture everything and not even consider if I am in frame or not.
100%
Yes, I like my X2 for that. However, sometimes the extra effort to review and reframe 360 footage is a chore. Depends on the project of course.
@@ChrisCoxCycling I do not feel that way at all. but then again I am not a professional in any kind of capacity. and I trade that effort any day to capture moments with out the risk of being out of frame. I mean having the x2 mounted on a cap and just one touch and it is capturing every thing around you and you can view it later as if you where there again.
Is it a bigger wide agel size then go pro
Will the GPS remote work with the ACE , the cheaper one? Hope so as it seems like it would be a great Action Camera. thank you for your video
It does 👍🏻
@@BenClaremontNo, NO. The cheap one does not work with the Ace Pro, only the new more expensive one. This, according to insta360, not some UA-camr. But, uf you can actually SHOW it works...
I really appreciate you used this Ace Pro to video this review. It looks like a real pro cam. When in fact its pocket size action one. Stunning camera
Glad you liked it 😀
@@BenClaremont Thanks again i bought the AP and the watching looking remote👍🏾
Very interesting camera. I am at a crossroads. I have the Insta360, for low light I use the 1" sensor. What would be better in low light? this new camera, with it smaller sensor or the insta 360 with 1 inch? Would I be better off upgrading to the OneRS, or getting this? EDIT whatever I end up buying, I will use your affiliate link
I think they’d be pretty similar- make the decision more based on what type of content you want to shoot, 360 or one direction only 👍🏻
Hi Ben BTW can the charging port be removed for charging? Haha some of my cables seem you've obstructed by the port cover
Yes it can
Given your remark about shooting stills on your phone rather than an action camera, I’m wondering if the DJI Pocket with 1 inch sensor might not be a better bet for videos/action?
Perhaps, although I haven’t used it so can’t comment
Hi, I have a question I'll be going to Dominican republic in a few months and I need your help to deciding what camera I should buy DJI ACTION 4 OR Insta 360 Ace Pro I would be doing a lot of action like offloading and going to the beach etc, so please help me decide !!! #something that doesnt overheat!
Dji Osmo Action 4 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️🔥
Awesome
Every UA-camr is reviewing the Ace pro but I haven't seen the regular Ace model. Thanks for comparing the specs of both. If you shoot only in 4k does it use the whole sensor with oversampling or just every other pixel? The later could mean less low light performance? Looks like a cool camera tho. 4k or 6k is plenty for 99% of us. That zoom feature is nice!
Funny, I've also been curious about the regular Ace but have found next to nothing about it
I’ll make a video when I can 👍🏻
Nice Ben, thanks
What is the usb transfer speed is it 30mbps like all the other action cameras? I tried asking on reddit but it filtered out my question and i could not find anyone else asking this question about the ace pro.
Ben, thank you very much for the review and valuable information about the camera! 👍
I have a feeling that 8k abilities of 'Insta360 Ace Pro' is a prove of concept for the future 'Insta360 X4' 360 camera that will be able to shoot regular 8k 360 video. 🙃
No lens replacement is the deal breaker for me as well, no Pure Video above 24fps is a bummer too, great video mate
Thanks for the review buddy. This was on my list but for what I need, the 360 cameras are more than enough. Not enough new features to warrant another camera purchase. And while I know UA-cam ruins quality, your side by side shows it's not worth it at this time. I am however very intrigued to what specs Insta360 new 360 camera will have? 🤔😁😁 Great production and quality on your videos my friend. Wishing you a great day. Stay safe.😊😊
Thanks John!
um.. was the question answered whether the non pro ace is a bettee buy than the ace pro?
Finally a valid alternative to GoPro. Let's wait a few months and Insta360 will churn out another similar one,...shall we bet?…😅 Thanks for the review Ben👍
Thr lens cover is removable though. You need a kit for it.
GoPro 12 got rid of GPS to increase battery time, does the ace pro have gps?
No. Offers link with app in phone or a new gps remote.
14:05 Does normal ace also have this 30 mins thingy?
what does 4k vs 4k look like compared...is the lense that much better.
along with other cameras this one is very sensitive to cold temperature already tested in the swiss alps. we wait until a camera can properly operate in minus temperatures
Interesting. I’m sure they will release a cold weather battery for it, similar to their other cameras. Here’s hoping.
@marco, Could you please provide more info please? I am whitewater kayaker and we boat in winter conditions on a regular basis. This issue would literally be a deal breaker. Could you provide more information on the outside temps, duration of exposure, eat. Wind speeds and type of failure you experienced 🙏🙏
just watched Brandon li's youtube video on it.... so many cool small thing this cam has..... wow...now am curious what you are going to show...
I have a Action 4, not im debating on a Pocket 3 or the 360 Pro? Did you notice this camera has trouble producing accurate facial tones? They are most ref faces. 😮
in 1inch360 I found that interval is really "intervall between 2 shots" and not "intervall bewteen 2 click to take a picture" and timelapse of 1 second is really "1 second between 2 frames" instead of "each frame is shot each second" (so if you start taking photos at a chrono watch at 0.01 you'd get 0.01 , 1.01 , 2.01 etc but you get 0.01 , 1.03 , 2.05). its annoying!!!
This 8K zoomed in to 4k may be great for filming grandkids playing baseball. ⚾️ got me thinking.
What about the windblast/wind-noise issue? Are they ever going to fix that?
If you value sound highly then it’s best to record using a proper microphone setup and not rely on the in camera audio of any camera.
@@BenClaremont I am already x3 with external insta360 mic and adapter, but the sound quality in during the windblast is terrible and muffled. Not like the way we see with gopro
@motoman9323 Agreed, almost every sports video I've seen using an insta360 with a built in mic sound tinny or overly processed. Gopro's have much better audio capture going all the way back to the hero 7.
Thanks for this review. Do you think the quad bayer system detracts from lowlight performance? Smaller bins to capture photons?
Thanks- actually as mentioned low light is one of its best features, due to the sensor & denoising algorithms. It performs better than most cameras for that.
Good review Mr. Ben. More competition for Gopro and Dji. Would be interesting to see if there is any or how much difference in IQ between the Ace and the Ace Pro with its Leica branded lens.
Thanks Ben! It was worth waiting for your review 😊 You call a spade a spade😅 I wonder if your US viewers will understand my reference? 😊
Who knows 😂
Ben is still one of my favorite photography UA-camrs of all time. I know he's in the 360 realm which is a bit niche, but overall, his content is head and shoulders above most stuff on the platform.
Much appreciated 🙏🏻
"Tech" is generally 10-20% higher here in the Philippines and this camera is available now here. Debating between a couple of cameras now. Done with GoPro and their issues after 5 versions.
You said the front telly light can be switched off. I can't find that setting to do that, can someone here point me into the right direction?
In low light and from close distance my subject looks as if there are police cars nearby because of the red blinking. :)
Haha. Swipe down from the top, swipe left, Indicator light > off
@@BenClaremont I have been through that menu a thousand times. I’m sure it just appeared there. 🤪
Thanks a million!
The only thing that holds me back from buying this camera is the hindsight mode go-pro have. Really hope they'll provide a function like that in the Ace Pro
the issue I have with the GO Pro for the Money is it should provide GPS as part of the video Option without having to purchase special software that is expensive to get it in your videos.... Which brings up another point, really dont understand why Garmin gave up on their Ultra 30 with built in GPS no remote needed ..... thing was awesome....
It is provided. Download the manual.
Can anyone tell me why no LOG support on ACE is such a big deal? Or it is OK to someone who asks such a question?
Ben, thanks, as always for the fantastic video. Are new A camera for Beer 🍺 Vlogs that we love is the DJI Pocket 3. It’s built in mic reciever and DJI mic 2 make it the KILLER CAMERA. BUT to fragile to ALWAYS have in pocket. This seems to be a great B cam/pocket cam. That said, we REALLY hope the next model has 8k/30, built in tripod mount and MOST IMPORTANTLY DJI MIC 2 like accessory (no adapters or cables needed). And we are REALLY looking forward to X4 and hope those features we list above are in that camera. Thanks again for the great video

🙏🏻👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Indeed, an x4 with these specs will be compelling!
Great review ben, is it possible to use 2x Zoom for 4k@120fps slow-motion
Thanks, no it’s up to 4K60
Appreciate the honest review. I've found the hyped reviews a bit dubious. The AI warp stuff just seems like a gimmick.
The proprietary mounting system, and the need for 3 different accessories to add an external microphone (unless you have a dji 2 mic with bluetooth) are deterrents for me. But the better low light performance is keeping me on the hook as i decide what, if anything, i upgrade my old gopro hero 7 to... hero 12 still needs the media mod or convoluted rig and mic adaptor for external mic too, so it's not perfect either.
Replaceable lens matters less to me since i can keep using the 7 for "higher risk" situations in decent light. Its stabilisation and footage quality is adequate for what is essentially B roll action.
What’s the highest SD card capacity it will use
1TB
@@BenClaremont SENSATIONAL!!! As my Go Pro Hero 9 is capped are 512GB
Hey Ben I think no one can challenge the image the quality of ace pro but is it really an action camera or a rugged vlog camera. I love that u call our the flip screen and mount. I know insta360 call x3 an action camera as well but we all know how easy we can smash the lens (yes we can use lens guard but image quality will be impacted). I can trust GoPro that even I fell multiple times while snowboarding, it will be fine or i just replace the lens guard. I asked mic on 360guy to do a drop test and he say he will reach out to insta360 to see if they do one.
One thing u didn't call out is the weight, it is heavy and bigger then go pro and putting it on the Helmet or hold on to it by hand on a stick will add up.
Just sharing what I feel 👌
Thank you for this comment, very helpful!
Should i go for this or the rs one?
I basically wanna just motovlog and 360 camera vlog on my snowboard
The irreplaceable lens is not a big issue. I put on a screen protector available on Amazon and it does not affect image quality.
You're not thinking large enough and for those who use action cameras for heavy action sports.
did you use microphne for this video with ace pro
Yes
Great video, thank you for the info. At the price, I dont think itll really be worth it, at least in my opinion. Outside the inability for repairs the 8k isnt truly 8k and doesnt seem to make enough of a difference to justify the price point. Especially since you'll like want/need some accessories to along with it. You'd be looking into $500+ usd.
Thanks again for a great breakdown and allowing us to come to an informative decision
Also, the camera doesn’t have the AI warp feature because the processor isn’t good enough and is entirely app based. You also have to pay for it after 3 months, but they dont put that in the ad
AI warp is an editing effect not a camera feature… and it’s not 3 months, it’s a limit of around 20 or so. The reason is that it comes from another paid AI app which integrates within the Insta360 app and that app charges for them after a certain amount.
@@BenClaremontdo you know what that other app is called?
iPhone 15 Pro Max photo performance seems a little better. It is possible ? Or just a UA-cam recording playing with my eyes.
It is. But they’re both great.
I know this is a couple months ago, but the weather is getting better and I think more people are going to looking to get an action camera for the spring / summer activities. For $50 less you can get the DJI osmos action 4 with 3 batteries, and a lot of accessories/ mounts all for $50 less than just this camera. It may be better, but it isn’t that much better. DJI is on its way. 😊
Gopro camera software sucks, I'm just happy to see someone doing it better.
Feels overcrowded in this space already, I don't see the point of this camera. Was hoping for a new attempt at a 3D VR180 camera from Insta360, now that Meta Quest 3 seems to be popular and we have Apple Vision Pro and Samsung's VR headset coming up. An Evo 2 with 8K would be awesome!
This camera is not for everyone, if you want a rugged camera with replaceable lens and no flip up screen then stick with Gopro or DJII but live with overheating issues and terrible low light pretty much unusable footage, DJI is the only that comes close to usable low light shooting but still isn't as smooth as it does not have the 5nm processor to back up the stabilization. I'm getting mine soon and have been following the tech specs of this camera since before it launched. It's not a GoPro killer but it's a damn good start, there are just way too many other innovative features in this first stab at an actioncam body by Insta360 to overlook compared to a 12th gen camera who should have their sh%^ together by now, seriously, chronic overheating issues for a 12th gen camera???? this is their first gen and has NO overheating issues other then the 8K shooting and even that's impressive with heat. GoPro has gotten too lazy, they've had no innovative features in the past few years, let's be honest here. Yes, granted, no removable lens cap which is strange because their pre launch test models had removable lens guards so they changed that for some reason for their final release, I'm sure with time we'll find out why they did this, if you think it's their way of making money by people who will just buy a new one when it's busted then you're wrong, having a lens guard replacement option is more money for the company in terms of 1000% profit for the lens guards, they are $25 to $30 cdn here for the DJI and GoPro ones, you think they aren't making money? lol So I don't think it's a 'profit' scheme. I'm talking to Insta360 right now concerning this bad decision, but this won't be a deal breaker for me for MY usage which is a lot of low light shooting. Please remember there is NO perfect action cam, they ALL have their glitches and cons, YOU have figure out what's best for your shooting using these reviews to make your own decision. Great review btw lol !
Great comment!
4k 60 resolution? When does frames=resolution?
I never said frames = resolution.
I'm surprised Insta360 don't have stock to buy cause I feel like they are way better than GoPro (Who has stock).
For sure
Chinese company.
My acepro is about to come today😍🥰😭
Wow. I have no interest in this camera - but I couldn't help watching from beginning to end having started more or less by accident. Having watched many of your videos in the last few years, at last I've undertaken the massive physical effort of lifting my finger and subscribing. Cheers from Melbourne!
Happy to hear that Peter!
