at work we got our office lady new computer and windows 11 was unusable for 60 years old person so we just copied the c partition from old computer to the new one along with windows 10 and disabled tpm in bios. it activated, retain all the programs and certyficates...and the only thing that had to be reactivated was office

With Microsoft it´s ever second released OS lately. Win 98 = ok, Win ME = worst ever. Windows XP = ok, Windows Vista = really bad. Win 7 = GREAT, Win 8 = even worst than worst ever, no customer wanted this. Win 10 = not ok, but better than the disaster Win 8. Win 11 = not what the customers wants at all.

Last time I played around with Windows gaming in Linux it works great for that one gaming session. My issue that I had with it is when I went back to try to play a game a week or two later it was broken again and I would have to spend most of my time trying to figure out how to make it run. It got so aggravating that I quit playing with it.

@@CyberCPU When was this? Steam, because of the SteamDeck, which is linux, have poured tons of support for it.
I haven't played much on linux either, since my gaming PC is windows. But have played Hollow Knight on my Ubuntu laptop with no problems. I don't know if it's because it has official support or because of steam compatibility layer.

@@CyberCPU you were probably running your games out of a NTFS drive, weren't you? yep, that happens. When you go linux, it's better to commit to a ext4 partition. most of these issues just go away completely. So what causes most problems is the lack of commitment to the change. i went through that too. then i decided to format one of my 2tb ssds to ext4 for linux and all the stuff that wasn't playing nice with ntfs (some stuff work fine on ntfs drives) and leave the rest as they were for now. with time i'll change everything to ext4 and any ntfs drive will be the exception.

To be sincere, unless you have some very specific PAID software that uses older versions of Net Framework to be activated (Making it impossible to activate them on Linux), Linux nowadays (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, etc), are incredibly easy to use. With the exception of Power Users of the system, that still keep making tutorials on how to use everything on a command prompt using sudo commands, the entire system works like Windows, but even better because it's possible to do anything you want with it, you can install themes that changes the entire system, you can have a system that looks like Windows 7 or any other windows and do it your way, and it's fast, very well made and receives updates constantly.
And thanks to Steam efforts to make Steam Deck a thing, 95% of the Steam Library runs on Linux by using their own emulator on the system, so you have no need to do anything but update your drivers if needed.
The sole reason I'm on Windows is LITERALLY the lack of ways of activating Scrivener there right now, and I'll keep trying on my laptop until I can do it. Once I do, I'll leave windows 11 on my PC too.

For more advanced settings, you need to use PowerShell, and the commands there are tedious to memorize all of them and type them out as they can be long and very specific. The whole purpose of Microsoft Windows is to have a UI. It was designed specifically for the UI as an improvement over command line DOS and MS-DOS. The fact of the matter is that what was once a great operating system with the options and control panels you needed under Windows 7 has been purposefully dumbed down with those same options concealed specifically to make it more difficult to do what otherwise in the past has been a very simple task.

This is the first time I put any Linux on anything other than a retread that was too old for Windows. I haven't looked back and I have no plans for Windows on my Framework, everything works and I don't miss Windows at all. I am running Win 10 on my main workstation (AMD Ryzen 7) and when MS forces me to upgrade, it will be to Linux.

In the last month alone I've put Win 10 on 6 PC's. The district manager for the McD's in our area (42 stores, 3 in our city alone) has stated they will move to Linux before ever upgrading to win 11. Micro$oft's word is so dis-ingenuous now. It's one thing when you don't listen to the avg consumer, but when you ignore what business's are keeping your company alive, it's only a matter of time. End of support from windows doesn't mean jack sh. just keep using w10 as long as it's supported by the software you use because by the time people find exploits that could actually put your system in danger no new software is going to support win10 anyways and you'll be forced to change OS.
People love to fearmonger but in reality the security is 100x better than in the windows XP days and just because you don't get security updates doesn't mean you will suddenly get hacked.
I still have a windows 7 PC that downloads all sorts of movies and games, and nothing has happened to it even though it has no antivirus and I visited some sketchy sites with it.

I get having to update when exploits are found but do they have to keep changing the whole UI and adding features that I'll never use? Two days ago I was asked if I want weather, I thought I disabled that. Yesterday I was notified that Windows 11 is ready for install, I thought I disabled that too. Windows 7 was all I need and I'll keep Win 10 until the very end.

I don't mind the change in UI. I just wish Microsoft would make it more customizable out of the box. However, with that said I don't necessarily hate the windows 11 UI. There are aspects of it that I don't like but they're slowly starting to improve. Like the Windows 8 context menu is way better in 24H2.
But back in the day Windows would allow you to switch the UI back to a classic interface. I think we should still have that capability today.

I occasionally get annoyed with how hard it is to figure out how to do something on Linux (actually Doing the thing is rarely difficult, figuring out how can be a nightmare)... and then I run into something that was complicated or annoying on windows that is just straight up 'plug and play' or equivalent on Linux, or that i never knew was even Possible when using windows and just stumble across in passing while using Linux that makes things much easier in one way or another, and it well and truely makes up for it.
Libra Office vs Microsoft Office (and keep in mind, I switched away from the latter for financial reasons long before the ribbon or subscriptions became a thing) has been similar: various menu Items are in weird or annoying places, but there are so many functions that are so easy to use and make everything so much better (be it easier or less prone to causeing problems when interacting with other things or just having nicer results) are just a couple of clicks rather than a whole convoluted process that you read the multipage documentation for and still don't understand, nevermind manage to use.

0:32 that was never mandatory, in fact updating has become more of a bloat virus in of itself. Updates were supposed to protect us by fixing vulnerabilities and we receive them in the form of patches and updates. THAT HAS LOST ALL MEANING NOW. Updating isn't updating anymore. The only thing modern OSes have over older ones is feature support... But, AI is deterring people into sticking with Windows 10 anyway. Nobody wants these features and fully knowing that the next operating system is based off that solidifies your denial of Microsoft's ideal future. Microsoft may have save the PC industry but they don't own it, they never have. Microsoft only did what they could for PC cause that was their only and most profitable platform. They could easily be a different company altogether. If anyone has a right to own the PC industry with an OS it's Intel-the inventor of x86 making an operating system for their x86 CPUs. Microsoft hasn't made or invented any hardware to contribute to the evolution of PCs at all. They are a software company, we need a HARDWARE company to take their place.

11 has gotten so bloated it is basically Spyware masquerading as an OS. I kept having latency issues and frame pacing issues in games. Disabling HAGS didn't fix it, rolling back to AMDs 23.11.1 did. So when I found out a friend, who had a very similar build as me, was on 10 I decided to roll back. So this weekend I did a format and install of 10. I haven't had a single issue on the latest Radeon Drivers like I did on 11.
Soon I'll be throwing linux on one of my other drives and seeing about slowly migrating to that.
