I've never been one to read them, watch them yes, but not read. I mostly watch with my dad. I remember my grandmother had westerns written by Louis L'Amour in a hall book shelf. I'm pretty sure they were read by my father and his older brothers. I remember touching the spines, thinking... "so many..."
What a coincidence! I'm actually reading a western right now! 😃 Butcher's Crossing, by John Williams. Definitely do give that one a look; it's pretty good so far. Also, Blood Meridian is fantastic; that one doesn't romanticize anything; it's brutal. And I love The Gunslinger; it's my favorite Dark Tower novel. Really hate that King didn't continue with the writing style of that one for the rest of the series, but the tone and atmosphere of that first novel is highly singular and I just love it. ☺
I didn't know Stephen King wrote cowboy books I read edge books as a youth I gave them away to men in hospital who were serious ill my age 71yr I'm back into reading cowboy books I remember as a child cowboy comics all short stories
Lonesome Dove is a top 5 all time for me. Just read it again after 20 years. If you've never read True Grit by Charles Portis I highly recommend it. There are 2 movie adaptations but I really love the book. True Grit was one of the best books I read this year.
I love Larry McMurtry. It felt like if he wrote it it was guaranteed to be thrilling. Gunslinger series amazing! And fully agree, COWBOYS AND ALIENS is way underrated. Good quick-hitting video here.
I'd recommend Blood Meridian by McCarthy and also All the pretty horses also by Cormack Mccarthy, El Paso by Winston Groom is also fantastic
Nice

Loved the Gunslinger and most of the Dark Tower books even though King is a Bellend.
Highly recommend The Window’s Son
That’s in my wish list and the dark tower books are some of my favourites
