Hi Lori. You're right. Sunroofs were not available as an ELR factory option. It took me about 2 years to work up the nerve and find someone I trusted to install it. Definitely would like to see future reviews on this beauty. I am currently on the hunt for one, but just need to find the right color combination and features list. Any idea on what the overall lifespan is on the battery itself?
Cadillac's 2014 ELR battery warranty is 8-years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. BUT, Cadillac will only consider replacing the battery if it drops below 60% of its original capacity, according to the owner's manual. My EV-only range has dropped to about 30 miles per charge from about 37 miles per charge since I first purchased my ELR. Cadillac has told me such a range drop is "normal."
Nice to cross paths with someone that gets it…..I still have my personal gear bag packed and ready!! Sometimes I do some freelance work….but, it’s rare. I edit to keep my mind fresh and the part time check is nice!! Stay in touch and I’ll look forward to your EV content!! I’m the first in my group on GEN X to get off that tv news train….doing a few days is okay 👍
I would like to see an update….I’m looking for an ELR for a retirement gift for myself….I had a 2013 Chevy Volt….I loved the car, it was just too low to the ground for me….I’m 6’2, 280….I fit in fine, getting out sucked….I had 202k on the VOLT….I never had a problem with car..:it had some weird things on the IPOD screens…but, I never went to the gas station….just plugged in when I got home on 110 AC….charged overnight and ready for the AM…I could also charge at work….I really miss the VOLT concept…I wanted them to try it in a SUV😎
Hi Greg, Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. As a one-man band it takes me a while to get each video together & I have quite a few in the pipeline so it will be a while. In the meantime, since I am an ELR owner if you have any questions I can help with, don't hesitate to ask. It’s a lot easier than it use to be….I’m a news content video editor….you can shoot,,edit, write and upload your project…with a iPhone!! I’m a retired network news photographer…..they still carry a crew of 4….I miss it, but my body and mind thanks me!! You’re content is fine….being a MMJ is challenging….but, watch your local news…some people have the eye and ears to do great work!! I enjoyed doing pieces alone and letting my subject tell there story…not me making it fit into 1:30 or 2:00 minute piece…. Im still looking my ELR….high mileage doesn’t matter to me….JUST THE BATTERIES….long as those are in good shape and they used both the generator and engine equally….I’m fine!!! You’re doing good work….check out nppa.org for some crafty idea…just have fun making movies 🎥
@@gregb8759 Hi Greg, I also worked in the news industry in TV, radio & print. I started back when 3/4-inch "portapacks" (today I chuckle at the idea that they were portable) were the norm so I'm still in awe of being able to do cross-country interviews w/a webcam & shoot 360-degree video with an action cam. I've been a reporter, producer, editor & in management, including news director over the years. I'm doing EV Rider for the joy of it. On the batteries, yes, that's probably the scariest part of just about any used EV purchase.
Hi there…..guess what?? I just purchased a 2014 Cadillac ELR….!!! I collect it in January….I got it for $15949….has 120k on it and it’s coming out of central Florida from a Cadillac dealer….it’s Raven Black/butter interior!! I’m soo happy and excited. I have been looking over a year for something that I could afford….I’m having it transported to me….I don’t feel like driving from Florida to Chicago….my son and a good friend told me to….PULL THE TRIGGER!!! I DID!! I’ll let you know how it goes….ask questions since I’m not near a dealership….thanks for listen!!
I have a 2016 that I bought for 25k with 28k miles. I now have over 60k and it has been great. The only hiccup has been a coolant pump that needed to be replaced. This is a common issue on volts. My 2016 is fine on acceleration it’s 6 sec ish in sport mode. I also have a 2017 volt and the ELR is noticeably faster. One other cool feature that never gets mentioned is that mountain mode charges the battery up to 17 Mikes of range. I use this all the time if not near a charging station.
@@EVRider Yeah I have my car in Ohio and its very flat. I put it into mountain mode to see what it does. I charges the battery up to about half way. It does erode the gas mileage a little bit. But that erosion is much less than you think.
I also own a 2014 ELR and I love it! I got it 3 years ago with 60,000 miles, and I've put about 25,000 miles on it since. Please make an update vehicle, and if possible, please let me know if where to locate the ECU (computer) on this car. I took it to a Cadillac dealership and they had absolutely no idea where to find it. In fact, they wanted me to pay a $200 discovery fee just to look for it. I'd really appreciate it, and thank you 😊
Hi Randy, If you're referring to the Cadillac CUE ECU it's behind the radio (CUE) unit. I have this same color and model. I love mine, no problems ever. Has 74000 miles and drives like new. Here’s a idea I use, in town drive in low gear, in drive on the freeway in mountain mode.
Hi @Candacenavickas. I sold mine in 2022. You've got a really special car. I did several ELR videos while I owned mine. Here are the others: evrider.tv/tag/cadillac-elr/
I own two 2016 ELR’s, white under 30k miles and black performance under 40k miles. Also have a Gen 2 volt. Do you still have your ELR, if so I would love to see a follow up with any issues or battery degradation you may have noticed. There are now several companies that can rebuild/ replace individual bad bays of cells or even the entire battery. I love these, just hoping the electrics don’t become an issue.
Unfortunately I don't have mine anymore. But they are great cars. You have 2 true modern classics! When I sold mine it had 60k miles. The battery was degrading, going from an average of 38 miles per charge to 30 miles per charge, with the range extender regularly kicking in after about 25 or so miles.
I have a 2014 ELR, I have a question, I see in the last frame of your video, you have a sunroof, was that an option? Also the best charge I have gotten is 24miles.
Hi Harvey, Assuming you're not constantly flooring it, you're range sounds low to me. If you're battery is still in warranty (8 years/100k miles) you might want to have your Caddy dealer check its health. And, you're correct. My ELR does have a sunroof, but no, it wasn't a factory option. I had it custom installed. Here's a Facebook string I did on the sunroof a few years ago that will likely answer your follow up questions: ua-cam.com/users/redirect?event=comments&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbVdycTZjN0hOc28xSjNUNEgwUDJqME1GRGpXd3xBQ3Jtc0tuWlRFRXNmUEdTLVBDSzlnQm5adzRzQy1rWEM4NG1zdzJQMUctS2hKQmdkc2lLWk5fdXUyTGNiX191dEY0THZyeHBPM3FibldOUTd6TDU4Umh1aEN4RTFBQ2RJZlVXU0RodWl6cEFpZlpsd3F6RWZMUQ&q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2F1687604568140458%2Fposts%2F2268759560024953%2F%3F__cft__%5B0%5D%3DAZVjLUKJ96tyjX4gMBbtAMdYKnlAfEtBLnTz_h864mHJ9mts9OG5E86z9oU7JSc1BpoIGP5Fq2fakBu1ttCSsKpvAFYa4dAODLUgy-wNnjUsS_Uc2Q6UsPQMP0tfOrkdde9-Y8nk2b6s-2kyAc8x7Ynx%26__tn__%3D%252CO%252CP-R&stzid=UgwMwnUbR6SQlfZe6Zh4AaABAg.9XGdj-6Ill29XGhZCIFezR
I been searching for one of this beautys but can’t seem to get them in time although I am looking for the 2016 model 😅 Did your ELR came with a sunroof or did I see that incorrectly 🤔?
They only made about 500 of the 2016s so they can be especially hard to find. Here's an ELR Facebook group that might be helpful in your search since the members sometimes post here first when they are considering selling: facebook.com/groups/1687604568140458
So is it safe to say this car is an affordable (sub 20k) and good entry level hybrid for the current used pricing? I’m looking at this and the EGolf. Ya, I know the golf is ev. 😁
I wouldn't say that. In my opinion, used ELRs should only be considered by collectors looking to invest a future classic. All ELR battery packs are old at this point with the 8-year/100k miles warranties expiring. Plus, fewer than 3,000 ELRs were built which means ELR-specific parts such as body panels, LED headlight assemblies and other bits unique to the ELR may be hard to come buy since it was one of the lowest volume production cars in GM's history. These cars could become expensive to maintain. If you're considering an e-Golf, I'd go with the 2019 model year since those battery packs will still have the longest warranties left (excluding super high mileage examples).
They did not. I had an aftermarket sunroof put in. If you have any questions about it, here are the details: facebook.com/groups/1687604568140458/posts/2268759560024953/?__cft__[0]=AZUdsciEvALtm6BbNqxcPTZb4pnx4CiuxKeH2GDjHyEZqBtKZpk0yA9SHYwLUkj4ToXHetLxN535-RbblJUhi-zoJKxjbeggAsO2REe5MnoL03HJmKiqsx5XrIEx6v6LuUsZ191RgbWdqSnGykUdrG0Z&__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R
The EPA mpg for the ELR was 33 mpg. I normally got between 31 (70mph) and 34 mpg (55mph) when in hybrid (gas) mode on highways. Around town my mpg was often listed as 250+ since I was usually running in EV mode. Please note I went over lifetime averages in the first two ELR videos. Part three (this video) was more focused on the overall lifetime ownership experience.
@EVRider awesome, thank you. I'm thinking of getting one just for casual short trips in the summer and long road trips. I have a truck and a maserati that both get about 17mpg at their best. I travel long distances frequently, and I know that there are better options if I'm just grabbing a third "commuter" car, but for what you give up in mpg I think it's worth it for the exclusivity, styling, and comfort of the ELR.
They are a stylish elegant town car. Not an Aston or a boat puller. More like the concept of T-bird or Riviera. Technology has 400k mile Volts as evidence for lifetime...you driving 50k a year? Hmmm.
You've done a very appealing review of the car. Covered a lot of topics. Thanks
Great review. I'm curious about your sunroof. I did not think any of these ELRs had that option.
