- We love the idea of smaller nonstick skillets for frying an egg or cooking smaller meals, so we tested 8 options until we found one that stood up to our testing.

Spending 66 hours and 700 eggs just to give us the best non stick pan? I love the dedication Aat ATK! Thank you.
Yeah, they could have done some research (ie reading instructions like they've failed to do in the past) and found that all (or most) new ceramic pans call for seasoning making them no better for food release than any other seasoned pan including stainless steel or their All-Clad (which there are much cheaper knock-offs of).
@@madthumbs1564 we seasoned all pans before using them
That's about 10.6 eggs an hour.
Clearly she ain't the fastest cook around.
@@todd.goslin6190
Keep in mind that she allowed each pan that stuck to stick 4 times.
You have to clean the pan after an egg sticks.....
So many variables and relative change factors to even make this testing “fair”.
Just add a bit of EVOO and all these pans are great.
I love America's Test Kitchen, but man this show has cost me a lot of money. My kitchen has basically become an OXO Kitchen thanks to these guys. Here's to another $30 in buying this new pan lol.
This is ONE person's or organization's opinion. OXO makes good quality stuff, I have a few of their kitchen gadgets myself, but I don't think you need to spend $30 to get a good 8-inch non-stick pan. I would look up Ecolution, in my opinion they make great non-stick pans for a great price, maybe half of what OXO is asking for, and I own a few of um myself. And you don't have to take my word for it, Ecolution products have almost universally positive reviews, check out their website and products on Amazon. I would just recommend you to stay away from so-called ceramic non-stick pans, they're anything but in most cases, and I learned that the hard way.
@@mydogskips2 I've purchased may products based on overwhelming positive Amazon reviews and have been disappointed.
trust me, the ctx scanpan is the best. look at all videos on youtube, all use them... they handle metal and last like 1.5 year with ALOT of use.
This shouldn't be my concern, but I like to see my ATK people having fun onscreen. Keep up the good work, girls!
I'm in Canada and don't have a TV service, but absolutely love keeping up with you folks on UA-cam.
Nice format! Good chemistry between the two. Glad to see it still has the same testing rigor that we expect from America’s test kitchen.
You should test the random “made in Italy” found at home goods and TJ max
OXO is a great company. Pretty much everything they make is durable, user friendly, and affordable.
I think their name has come up quite a few times during these tests. Going to have to look them up!
@@Phoenix85006 They apparently design for the disabled in mind, so their products are definitely a cut above.
@@Nocturne22 The man who started the company did so because his wife had become severely arthritic. She needed tools she could use with hands that no longer worked well (pain, stiffness), and that is what Oxo tries to make. Most of their stuff is top drawer, in my experience.
Never thought I'd really pay much mind to a kitchenware company, but I agree. I'm definitely an OXO fan; all their items I have have stood the test of time and super ergonomic.

I went and bought one immediately after watching this. I have a larger one and need a smaller one, and America's Test Kitchen has never steered me wrong.
I love these shows. Thanks for helping me decide. 🌹
Lisa I like you the best of all the testers..
To me you seem the most authentic and your voice is distinctive with a nice rasp to it..
Gear Heads is probably one of my favorite ATK youtube series. I always look forward to a new one!
Thank you ladies - I love your test methods!
Love the tests!!! Thank you for all the hard work!!!
Best nonstick pan I’ve ever used is my well seasoned cast iron. Can cook eggs in it no problem and they come right off. It takes a while to get the cast iron there but when you keep it well maintained, it becomes the workhorse in the kitchen. I love it so much I’m thinking of getting more cast iron pans in different sizes.
It sucks at heat distribution, weight, maintenance, thermal shock, ergonomics, etc. Tri-ply aren't out of the same price range.
Rather have a pan that I don't have to baby all the time
I've been using a Tramontina 80114/516DS Professional Fusion Fry Pan 10-Inch. It checks all the boxes for me. Pretty much perfect.
Love the format of the show! Great information.
In case anybody is looking for a 9” rather than an 8” model, or needs induction support but can’t afford the All Clad, IKEA’s Oumbarlig has pretty similar properties to the one that’s recommended here, and it’s got a stainless steel/aluminum sandwich disc bottom, so it works on induction. $15. Love it.
Wow!!!!! So much hard work!!!! So committed!!! Thank you’ll so much !🙏🙏🙏
Very helpful!
That's one thing I don't really have right now...the smaller version of my non-stick pan...which they're right about...sometimes it is indeed better to use a smaller one. Good job, Hannah and Lisa.
Absolutely. In my opinion it's better to make scrambled eggs in particular in a small pan, in a larger pan it just doesn't come out the same.
Thanks so much, I love these equipment review vids makes shopping so easy
Great review! I love OXO kitchen utensils. Was unaware they make pots and pans. I’ll definitely have to pick one of these up when my current pan needs replacing. Thank you!
Thanks love the equipment reviews
Thank you so much, this was exactly what I was looking for!
The problem is there are dozens of brands to choose from, not just the few ATK chooses, and if you check other sources you'll get different opinions, I know, I've checked.
But I won't say anything bad about OXO, I've never had a bad product from them, they're one of my favorite brands, but I've never tried their frying pan. Personally, when looking for a frying pan I would look for a company that's more exclusive to making cookware, not kitchen gadgets, but that's just me. One thing not mentioned in this review that I saw elsewhere was that the OXO pan has a heavy handle which may somewhat unbalance the pan.
It would be really great if you could do a range test, for example, Scanpan has a wide range of different pans/fry pans, from stainless steel to non-stick using many different non-stick coatings.
OK I'm officially starting to be a fan of Gear Heads.
I just got the 12 inch All-Clad D5 stainless steel nonstick pan. It is amazing, best fry pan I’ve had. I tried to get the OXO Good Grips pro non stick pan, but, none of the stores here in Manhattan are selling it. I just gave up and bought All-Clad, as I already have their D5 stainless steel 3 quart saucepan, and like it.
More Gear Heads please! Love these!
You ladies did perfect!!! Answered EVERY question I had. My wife makes great omlettes, so a small fry pan like this is like a pencil in school...you need a good one that can last! Super happy with ATK it's my crack!
I would LOVE to know what sort of comments you get when you're standing in the street whacking pans. Or is Boston just sort of used to that sort of thing? Great show and awesome work.
Thanks! Just bought 😁...Can't wait to use
Yes I bought oxo nonstick skillet before watching this, I am glad I made the right decision.
I'm a big fan of What's eating Dan. This is the first time for you guys. This was great.
I came for a lesson to make a more informed decision, not just an immediate solution. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
FINALLY!!!! A non stick pan test that is a stick over time test. It's not about how good it is as much as how long it can last.
Our ceramic pan started breaking down but I didn't realize what was happening. After a few months of use, it just stoped being non-stick. Thanks for this video - helped me understand why I need to go back to more traditional non-stick.
Thanks for all your testing. I really enjoy ATK. Hey Lisa ❤️
I have a scanpan. It does stain but I have used a scout pad to clean surface stuff others have left on it.
I use a seasoned Matfer Bourget carbon steel skillet for nonstick (eggs). Had an All - Clad 8" nonstick for eleven years-it was the best!
Came here for this comment. Just got one and it’s life changing
Hands down the most competent review of anything ever of all time…ever.
All clad non stick skillets are great!
I also love the Vollrath 8” Z4008
It has a great nonstick surface with a silicone handle.
I love these videos. I would like to have seen you test the Le Creuset toughened nonstick pan though.
THANK YOU. I thought it was just Me! I like the heavier weight of my 8" Cuisinart ceramic "non-stick" over my T-Fal pans, but it is definitely Not a non-stick surface. So, I use if for things which aren't going to stick anyway. I'm due to replace my T-Fal pans (required every couple of years) so I'm going to check out the OXO brand. I appreciate your time and effort.
I will always be confused how we can put a man on the moon and cannot get a good non-stick frying pan that will last for a while Cod mini always end up going back to cast iron seasoned just my opinion
Love you guys! Keep keeping them honest 👍🏼
Thanks for this test. I’m an empty nester looking to get smaller equipment. Like I bought a 3qt pressure cooker/slow cook pot. If anyone has a recommendation to replace pots and pans with small ones, I’d love to get some.
I'd buy an 8 inch de buyer carbon steel frying pan. They are great and relatively lightweight.
Screw carbon steel; it's horrible at heat distribution just like cast iron, and horrible at heat retention per mass just like iron. Get some clad pans and avoid electric pressure cookers.
Thanks and more Gear Head videos please!
I'm here mostly for the comments as they can contain much better information.
this is my fave channel...great detail testings...with wide range brands. wondering what proper heat temperature to use for any of these non stick pot and pans? thanks
I just found your channel, and love this video. Have you tested any of the granite coated and the "diamond" coatings? Very curious as to how they fare against the others you reviewed here?
I wish these videos lasted longer, I do enjoy watching them :)
I have the 9.5 inch square pan by Copper Chef and I really like it. When I first brought it home my wife gave me one of those looks but I have found her using it about as much as I do. We also have six cast iron skillets and griddle plus carbon steel woks...
So you've never bought a pan that was worth buying.
great test, thanks.
You two are great!
My dad use to tell my mom that to imply she was HUGE.
I have the Oxo pan. I use it every day and it works great, but the handle gets wobbly and I have to tighten the screw on it every couple of months.
Some pans were harmed in the making of this video.
Been a fan of Oxo stuff for a while now, glad to see they did well here. Curious about that cooktop though, can you let us know what it is?
Would you please consider doing a video on the safety of non stick coatings for cookware?
Adam Regusea has an excellent video on the topic. Basically: the coatings are safe up to 500F or hotter. The main health concern are the chemical byproducts released by the factory into the environment, but the pans themselves are safe to eat off of unless you get them extremely hot.
I personally love and use the Hexclad pans and carbon steel pans
When we already know that ceramic is brittle, not sure if the bang test is relevent or appropriate. Don't think I bang my pots and pans and yes, I do cook regularly. So under normal, frequent use, are ceramic pans not as effective, if not more, as the traditional non-stick variety? Thank you for the great reviews.
Thank you for bringing back Lisa McManus!!!
What do you mean by "bringing back"? She never left.
Nice to see scanpan in your test, but I would recommend using the Scanpan CTX instead since it's the most common series that they sell.
Green Pan has 2 collections that are only available on Williams & Sanoma & did you review the latest ScanPan? Would you review the two Green Pan collections available at Williams Sonoma?
they deserve a listen to. They use real circumstances and have a good trial.
My understanding was that what Scanpan calls “ceramic titanium” is PTFE (Teflon). Plus, they have about six different lines. Looks like you tested the Classic line. I have the Classic in a 9 1/2” Stir Fry pan and it’s fabulous. Anyway...please comment on the Teflon vs Ceramic nature of the Scanpan.
You are all VERY GOOD at what you do! I am a big fan of Oxo, but I have always thought of them as superb for small items, such as their potato peeler which is razor-sharp. I might buy a bigger version of the Oxo fry pan! I did see one quote from a pro when talking about home cookware: "Even if they claim you can use metal utensils, don't!" :-)
I love the aprons you are wearing! Where can I get one that has the princess seam like the once in the video?
This is so good!
Bought an oxo pan a couple of months ago best pan I’ve ever used
What version of Scan Pan did you use; Classic, CS+, Evolution?
Did you try the Diamond+Evershine GreenPan???
What is the name of the brown pot in the video? I really like that color, is it of good quality?
Love the video but I really wish dura-pan would have been tested a cookware by Curtis Stone at HSN. Thanks for the dedication to saving us money!! God Bless
Perfect timing on this video.....the coating on a few of my older pans are beginning to flake off, and I was debating different brands when I came across this vid.....
I just bought the OXO non--stick pro 12 piece set on Amazon, along with a 12" open skillet. Thanks for making the decision easy!
Induction cooking is my new best friend, the All Clad may have to be my new best friend too. Thanx very much for all the "Staying in there", even when the times of self preparation are frowned upon by USA house holds. Fast food is TOO inviting, this can bring Home Made back around.
Just switched to a Miele induction range from gas and love it.. my one and only All Clad which worked well for me on my gas range also works well on induction. Since most of my pans are not induction capable and I don't want to scratch up my induction cooktop with my heavy cast iron pans I am moving to carbon steel pans and stainless pots.
Love this!!!! @Americastestkitchen it wouldnt make sense but people would watch the extended cut of this. To see all the OMG moments...
I have the Allclad. I have to hold the handle by the end because it gets really hot past half to the pan. As far as shape of the handle, i got used it. The angle of the handle is a bit steep. But the pan performs great.
I own All clad, and Scanpan non stick, and Volrath (purchased from costco) and tbh, volrath is my winner on the basis of maintaining it's non stick coating for the longest
good job
What happened to the OXO pan you were recommending with the black handle? It still seem available and cheaper. Why was it removed? What advantage does 25 more dollars get you other than a metal handle?
I would love to see more of this type of video from you guys
If you subscribe to the America's Test Kitchen Web site, you can look up all 20 years' worth of equipment reviews, taste tests, and recipes, plus watch all the full episodes of the PBS television show, all at your convenience. I've been subscribing to ATK and Cooks Country for years now, and I consider it money well spent; plus, my annual dues help support the test kitchen's good work.
I love Lisa!!!
Timely review: We have a ScanPan 8-inch that needs replacing (after years and years and years)...so we'll have to try Oxo (MUCH cheaper)!
I would be most curious to see how the JA Henckels Granitium nonstick pan performs. I absolutely love mine, and it is a "newer" nonstick technology. Also a large up and coming nonstick pan is the hexclad, which I would have REALLY wanted to see
Great testing, but you left out the stone-ceramic non-stick pans, like granite and marble, in addition to titanium coated. I've asked about these before, when might you test them?
Did you test Ecolution, they're among the best non-stick pans I've ever used, currently better than T-fal in my opinion, and what's even better is the low price. You guys should look them up and try them out, they're fantastic.
And for those that have the money, Swiss Diamond is supposed to be really good, but I've never used it myself. Also, Eurocast and Berghoff are supposedly quite good too.
is there another recommendation for 11" - 12" or would the video apply to all sizes?
What’s your opinion of the comparison of the Viking versus All Clad D3?
Really helpful as I am looking for a new non-tick pan.. OXO it is!
Learn to use stainless and you won't need that crap! - Halle Cottis how to season and cook on stainless.
I bought the copper chef skillets BAD MOVE their commercials say "it's like cooking on air" boy was that a lie.
I have a Zyliss and a Circulon, both exceptional pans.
Ozo has two style fry pans. One has a metal handle, the other has a handle with some sort of soft cover on it. Have you test both of these and do you know if the handle is the only difference. The one with the soft cover is less expensive I wonder if the pan itself is the same or not.
Are you tried Heritage The Rock? Pretty good pan.
Do you do long term tests like they do with cars? I have a drawer full of dead nonstick pans. Some last a few months. The better ones maybe a couple of years but they all stop sticking after awhile. What do you recommend for cooking eggs/french omelettes that actually last? I'm leaning towards the French carbon steels (since I've tried everything else). Cast iron is just too heavy. What say you, ladies?
How do you choose the brands that you want to test?
we do a ton of research up front, looking at what's available, contacting companies to see what their best sellers are, checking out trends to see if there's anything new and cutting edge, and then we look at what we have and go from there. sometimes it's way too many things to test at once. like for example we're looking at toaster ovens right now and there are SO MANY! so we had to pick an angle for the current story, and save certain trends for later. sometimes it feels like choosing a favorite child, because it's impossible to include everything on the market in certain categories, but we try our hardest to end up with a line up that reflects the market place. hope that helps!
All clad 10 " my go to pan!
Love my Hexclad!!
Can someone tell me wich stove is this on the video ? thx
Love you guys and the tests that you do...but I’m never gonna let you anywhere near my cookware.
But on a serious note, what is the max temp that can be used on the two “winners”?
PTFE pans are good up to 500° F. I'm not sure about ceramic pans, but while they should technically survive even hotter temps, cooking at that heat might be better suited for cast iron.
@@Eclipse1374 people underestimate temps. 500 is reached in minutes on a stove. It's terrible, how many people have digested Teflon over the years.
we stick to medium and lower on the stove with nonstick, which i know is a bit rough but it's hard to be exact because stoves vary so much. the coating on a PTFE start to off-gas at a dangerous level around 600 degrees, and you can hit that on the stove over high heat. if you have some fat in the pan it will smoke before the pan gets too hot, so that's a good bell weather. 390F is the max temp for the oven, that's because of that rubbery handle.
I'm curious as to which owns was tested? Was the modem pan tested?
The OXO may be good, perhaps best out the cheaper pans but if you want the best out of non-stick skillets the Anolon Accolade is the one to get.
This is the latest version of their non-stick series skillets.
I've own many of top brand non-sticks and this manufacture is the best from my experience, due to its durability, form and function.
The reason being its made with more layers on the bottom for even heat distribution, the non-stick will last longer and the non stick covers the outside of the pan too which makes for easier cleaning and appearance.
The draw back is they are expensive in comparison to the others but you do get your money's worth. They are also induction stove top capable.
When the eggs were being fried, were the pans cleaned between eggs?
