I think it has more to do with no one wants a Midwest team in a flyover state building a winning legacy like the Patriots. Goff still has the some flaws like he had with the Rams. And I'm sure he will lose at time because of not beeing able to play a reliable deep ball pass to a moving receiver that moves fast down 30 to 40 yards in the distance. Rams are smart and didn't get rid of him because he is good.
I would consider the Lions season a success regardless of what happens in the championship/superbowl.
