I am learning so much from these feedback sessions - it’s a beautiful thing! Thank you
I am currently listening to a book you have narrated. Your advice that I hear consistently, is telling the story and I must say, you do this amazingly. So folks, listen to Jay's advice! 😅
Oh well thank you!! That means a lot:)
@jaymyersvoiceover well, it's easy when it's true! 😃 your pacing is spot on, inflection etc. I don't know if my voice is marketable or not and am no where near being able to have a recording set up. So in the meantime I am learning what I can.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to go through my VO recordings! I think you might have hit on something early on in the video. I have a tendency to emulate what I think the voiceover would sound like on the radio/tv, and then it sounds unnatural. Marrying the clients expectations with my genuine personality is challenging to me.
My pleasure Nathan! Yeah, that’s the trick for all of us. Story and relationships in the reads is again what helps me most with that hurdle, but it can still sometimes be a challenge for sure.
Hello , i have rode usb + , could i make sound good like you?
Definitely! Treating your room is #1 in getting 'good' sound. Check out my video on "Your First Booth" for more on that
I'm absolutely loving what you're doing.
Since you're an expert on microphone techniques, have you considered using the microphone without the foam cover? It seems to improve the sound quality.
MYN talked about this in this video :

Thanks! Glad you enjoy it.
Yes! The ETHOS I typically keep the foam on it just for ease of use, but for other projects I’ll occasionally remove the foam or use a different mic altogether for that reason.
Jay, on the subject of the foam cover, what is it that you want the cover to accomplish? How does it alter your recordings? Thanks so much.
@DGuize good question! foam windscreens can dampen the higher frequencies of sound/voice generally, which if you want a “brighter/clearer” sound then removing the foam can help.
@@jaymyersvoiceover thank you for your feedback. I think I'll play around with it on and off and listen for the variance in the higher end. Also, hats off to everyone sending in Chicago samples for critique. That takes bravery. Hats off to you as well for providing constructive criticism and suggestions to move us forward. It's important that we get what we need to know over what we want to hear.
Be awesome
