'The Miracle on Grass!' Every goal from 52-point deficit to unforgettable winners | 2013 | AFL

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- It's been a while since Brisbane beat Geelong - the last time was in Round 13, 2013 but what a game to refer back and reminisce on!
Commentator Anthony Hudson dubbed it 'The Miracle on Grass' and who could argue, with the Lions overcoming the ninth-largest margin to win a game. Veteran Ash McGrath the man of the hour in his 200th game to pinch the remarkable game after the siren.

With 15 seconds left deep in the backline to win is insane
99 out of 100 times with 15 seconds to go and posession in the defensive goalsquare, you are cactus.
@@whatwouldiknow1759 I would go as far as saying 999 times out of 1000. 15 second transition is rare during a game, let alone in modern footy with all its flooding at the very end of the game.
@@whatwouldiknow1759 you are cactus?
@@MrAtosAyyyy exactly
@@whatwouldiknow1759 your name is right it describes you
Think about how many Brisbane fans left in the third quarter and missed such a historic moment
Those of us who stayed made up for their absence at the end - the crowd was so incredibly loud after Ash's goal :)
Me and my family were still there lmao
@@_tim You can see the up close shots of fans nearly crying, it must be a great feeling when you stay for such a comeback......I've never been to a game where my team has come back to win (from anything significant anyway).
@@SilentHotdog28 It was pretty intense - I lost my voice the next day :D
Not that many surprising enough left.
Who’s here in sept 24 after watching lions come back from 44 points down against gws in the semi final?
Anthony Hudson was commentating too, can’t believe he didn’t mention it??
Don’t even support the lions and this puts shivers down my back
same mate, that was bloody awesome, even though I have watched it before and knew the result, I was still like "come on, go, you can do it" haha
Ethan Shepherd well I didn’t
im with you mate

I was bouncing around like it was my own team. Unbelievable game!

Jord Murr Sorry I would but the only console I have is the Atari
Yep...
This is true!
Everything about this game is incredible, but honestly the thing that always amazes me is that Huddo had that level of legit excitement as a die hard Cats man himself
The great commentators put aside their bias for their club to commentate. Even as a fan, If I see something spectacular done by the opposition like a rippa mark or brilliant goal, then I'll mark out. When tigers played collingwood one year, Higgins (tigers) kicked a bicycle kick around the the goal post and put the ball through for a goal.....the way he did it was subperb, but the umpires were calling it a behind and I was arguing against it even though I'? A pies fan.
His call when nick davis defeated the cats in 2005 was iconic too. Two such great moments
It’s weird seeing Jonathan Brown and Simon Black playing together again in this clip.
Elliot yeo down back for Brisbane in the dying seconds
Even weirder to see them playing with Zorko and Rich.
What’s weird about it? They played together for ages.
@@chiefchimp4377 .. it’s because it’s an old clip released recently.

I'm a Japanese who found out about Australian football today and I'm thrilled to have come across this video!
Why is Anthony Hudson not commentating grand finals on Seven
He’s my favourite commentator easily
Goes for Geelong too yet puts that much passion into them losing
Not only my favourite but I’d have to say currently the best. Cometti was up there before he retired.
@@AnthonyLeighDunstan absolutely. Those two are great. Unfortunately BT is still around, happy macavaney buggered off
Anthony Hudson is annoying, so is BT but the worst of them all is kelli Underwood, Dennis was the best shame he retired
4:12 its so weird seeing elliot yeo playing for brisbane
He played for the lions for a few years but he was bloody useless
#Brend019 are u sure about that statement buddy
Ashleigh Hodges Yeah I am sure m8
Ashleigh Hodges you act like he is the same skill level start to finish of his career
@@Bxnes19 No he wasnt.
How on Earth did this get into my homepage recommendations? I have no idea what sport this is, but it was fun anyway.
Australian Rules football, best sport IMO. Takes a while to get into for some, but the pace, energy and athleticism are awesome.
You got lucky friend
Maloney's goal from 70 on the run.. absolute beast!
Very reminiscent of vossy wearing that 3. Loved watching him play as a demon and lion. Tough son of a gun he was
Had to watch that a few more times.. Monster goal from stoppage.
I’m a Geelong supporter, but this is one to remember.
You could see even some of the Geelong fans were smiling and clapping as they had just witnessed history......obviously that would've hurt...but still history.
SilentHotdog28 yeah, definitely over it, but still don’t know how it happened lol
This isn't a fairytale tonight, Its a knock out and blockbuster on Channel 7.
SergeantAustralia Gaming still was a fairytale
ye
I coached Ash McGrath ...under 15s Armadale junior football club ....West Australia..great young player and real nice family
I didn’t even know he was from Perth I play against them now
That's awesome man. Favourite mcgrath moment is still his 60m+ bomb that rolled in against the Swans in the finals in the glory days
Luke Mono sure is mate Armadale boy ..2 older brothers played to ..Corey and Toby ..Carlton Essendon And Toby was a eagle ..younger brother Brad was a giant of a boy and coukd of been a star
I’m hoping for your sake you saw this live. Would be bounding around the house, no?
You basically kicked that last goal..
I knew the result but I still got sweaty palms watching this. 15 seconds to go, deep in defending 50m. just wow
i reckon that's the best comeback i have seen from the time left in the game
nah
seemed like a big mistake for Geelong to play on at 30 seconds left
My diehard Geelong supporting uncle still blames Dawson Simpson for that loss 🤣🤣

"This is better than a fairytale... You can't dream this scenario." Those words always pop up in my head everytime I watch Lion highlight on UA-cam. I was intl student in Brisbane in 2013 and 2014 and became Brisbane Lion and Broncos fan ever since.
Also (fittingly)...
"Anything is possible after this..."
Still gets my heart racing, such a great ending! Go Lions!!
Love visiting this video every now and then :-)
I remember thinking I'm not gonna go to this game cos we were sucking and 2013 was no different, so I stayed at home watching it. Needless to say I was little annoyed I didn't go to the game LOL.
Probably the best win, with the best final kick, in the modern game. An unbelievable moment for McGrath and the Lions. Fantastic commentary as well, kudos.
For some reason I was going for Brisbane lion 🦁 ! but I’m Geelong supporter 😂😭🤣
Good game though
lol
5:17 “the miracle on grass” what a famous saying
yea
I mean he just took it from “the miracle on ice”. Not an original phrase
Big Dawson playing on with 30 seconds to go!
4:06 “A mark here will win the game”. Well he wasn’t wrong.
LOL
Hahahahaha they did it again!
Miracle on Grass v.2!
AL3X2580 Not really a miracle 2.0 when the lions were sitting at 2nd before the game and had the highest odds on winning.
Bc we needed 3 goals in 7 minutes
With the world record for out of bounds on the full. I don't know how we won that game but damn it was great to be there at the end.
I was about to leave in the third quarter but we stayed and it payed off
@Trans Circus Lmao
“Never celebrate too early”
This is one of the greatest wins/comebacks of all time and I’m a Blue boy.
goosebumps everytime. i even remember turning the tv off thinking geelong had won. checked the scores spat me ice coffee at me computer screen. Watched this last quarter so many times
This was the start of something amazing for the Lions. This is a comment from a 3rd generation Cats supporter, who just watched Geelong beat the Lions to get onto the 2022 Grand Final. This match (almost 10 years ago) has given me such an amazing respect for the Lions, which they have shown in the last 5 years to be worth. Go the Lions, I'm so keen to see how many premierships you can win in the next 10 years!!!
This is one of the games of the AFL Season! Like Anthony Hudson “anything is possible” what a match!
Two dislikes from people who hate life in general.
Or i support Geelong, maybe just maybe a more suitable reason for disliking

I love Anthony Hudson he is such a passionate commentator..
Crows to the core but I remember watching this game and absolutely screaming at the tv for the Lions to get there and went mental when they won. Me and my Port supporter brother were literally on the couch grabbing each other by the arms when McGrath came in to take the kick and we absolutely exploded.
Kinda like me as a Lions supporter cheering your mob on last night. These moments are what footy is all about.

Who’s here after the GWS comeback?
Crazy to put yourself into the shoes of Chris Scott here, considering he and McGrath used to be teammates in the best team of the last 2 decades
What a comeback. Gives me chills ay 👊
Shivers every time
Who’s here after Zac baileys goal v Collingwood
Just witnessed The Miracle on Grass 2.0, had to rewatch the first again. 🦁
I still remember the player and what they did in the last sequence off by heart, one of the best games as a Lions fan
Huddo is the goat commentator man he’s a diehard cats man and listen to how passionate he is towards that ending it’s brilliant
One of the best pieces of commentary of all time.
I had the pleasure of coaching Ash McGrath at Armadale Football club when he was in the 15s ...great young bloke
Maloney goal from 70 my oh my
If I ever want to be happy I'll just watch this
To think these teams are 1st and 2nd on the ladder right now in 2019 season
“The miracle on grass!”
“Nick Davis... NICK DAVIS........... I DONT BELIEVE IT - I SEE IT, BUT I DONT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!”
“Thirteen... THIRTEEN!!!!!”
And I’m sure there’s more. Some of the greatest lines in afl commentary history. Someone should do a tribute to Huddo his iconic calls, especially those wins against his beloved Cats - the epitome of objective commentary. Absolute legend of the craft!

Pretty crazy I agree. A couple of serious goals, marks and handballs there. Nothing went wrong for a qtr. Maloneys goal is very underrated for how clean and far out he was

This victory was total insanity! Not much went right for the Lions in those first three quarters but my god how the stars aligned for them down the stretch! My heart was racing watching this in 2021 haha! I just fkn love sport with memories like this!
The last kick is every kids dream in such a game too
This along with the Nick Davis 4 goal 4th quarter are the 2 most movie like sequences in AFL history.

Too true
huddo has some of the most iconic calls
We'll never see anything like that again... Lol
Admit your bored and watching this more than once
I remember this game, it was killer! Ash McGrath!!
Heres a fun fact. Anthony "Huddo" Hudson called both the The Miracle on Grass and the famous Essendon 69 point comeback against North Melbourne in 2001.
Whenever I’m sad I think about this moment...
6 years later this is the biggest game of 2019 i can wait to see it tonight in the United States
I am an Indian and was not familiar with this Game. Watched a Video on different codes of Football, in which Association Football was the only one I was well versed. Rugby and American were heard about but was not so familiar. Gaelic and Australian were not even heard about. But then accidentally stumbled upon this video, watched this match and became a fan of the Game. we should have Footy Internationally in a wider manner.
Sadly I can't remember the young lad in the back line that was playing for Brisbane. He went on to play a short career due to reocurring concussions. He was tremendously gifted with ability, and a very smart kid from what I've heard. He would have been a great addition to Harris's Andrews down back now. But every player on that side that night, is the truest example of dedication and perseverance. Like many before and after in this great game of AFL
This might be a bit late being 7 months later, but I believe you're thinking of Justin Clarke.
@@nailsfolunch1213 nailed it, that's him. Ty
In my opinion, this has to be the best comeback Ever EVER
I bleed red, white and blue but will always have a soft spot for the Lions after this. Rewatching in2024

i like the sun
even though brisbane were 52 points down they still won i love the commentary as well great job Anthony Hudson
Great game for a blend of past and present stars.
4:06 truer words have not been spoken
Dawson Simpson’s handball to play on in the final minute was unnecessary and has to be a huge factor in why they lost it, had to simply kill time
Never get sick of watching the last two minutes of this game.
If that didn’t bring a smile to ur face then idk what will
Anthony Hudson is an absolute word smith
The ball was in the Cats goalsquare with 18 seconds to go. Ash McGrath marks with 1 second to go. Unbelievable.
Could Geelong blame the umpire for the loss? Thats my question
