After covering the machine with a moving blanket, I like to wrap the whole thing in saran wrap clingfilm. Works great and I don't have to embarrass myself with a horrible display of bad knot tying. Love your channel, and always glad to see the cat sneak into the shot! Many Thanks!
Out of all the videos that I never thought I would need to watch, but here I am. I am moving my grandmother's Victrola and I had no idea how to approach it. Thank you for your help. The only difference ce is that my Victrola has legs. Thanks again.
Beautiful collection. Looking at your machines inspire me to keep going in this hobby. They are beautifully displayed not all bunched into one room. Thanks again.
Incredibly helpful video- We've only ever transported my great grandmother's victrola standing up in a moving truck but I've been wondering if we could safely transport it on its side in the car. Thanks for the tips!
The only time I moved a diamond disc machine, I took the motorboard out to package it separately, so as to keep just the horn and cabinet together. Everything arrived safely, but it took quite a while to get the drive mechanism to connect to the horn. What a mess!. Next time, I will do it your way, looks much simpler. Thanks
Excellent point - the suggestion that the upright Edison phonograph should be correctly faced prior to traveling down the highway at 60-70 mph. I once had to work with a Edison Amberola 1A {lyre grill} that had been given to the Library of Congress for their collections. The machine was missing its lid - the daughters of the original owner told me that the machine had been transported on a highway and that the lid flew off of the phonograph at highway speed [the lid was lost as the owner was unaware of the mishap. I would also suggest locking the lid and front door of the machine. I use extra firm thick furnatiure packing grade sponge to wedge the Edison disc's swivel horn to keep it rigid during moves. Uncle Josh
When I ship a cabinet phonograph I take it to a local shipper like craters and freighters, or UPS, or FedEx, and I have a wooden crate built that will encase the whole cabinet with at least 6 inches of packing material all the way around.
Yes. If I’m shipping a photograph overseas, if it’s small I use FedEx and have them double box and ship it. If it’s large I have it professionally crated and use a shipping company.

The cats actually really enjoy the music!

Also, if the machine has a lockable lid and key, you can just lock the lid closed for transport.
Some times the lock will not unlock never lock them. They rust
Dyslexic Genius Hurt Good point. I should have mentioned this applies to locks which are in good working order.

Thank you!
Can you please make a video showing how to pack a cabinet type phonograph for shipping.?
Can you make a video showing how you pack a phonograph like that to be shipped please.?

Who would you suggest as a moving company? From California to Texas.
If it is small enough, then I recommend FedEx to both pack and ship. If it is larger then I recommend using Shiply 802-397-4326
Can I send you a picture of a photograph I'm interested in to get your opinion on it?
Yes. Dyslexicgeniushurt@gmail.com
Very useful information! Would you have any advice on shipping phonographs internationally by sea freight? TY

Can you make a video showing how to change the needle?
Video 534 shows how to change a phonograph needle
Is it the same thing for a cabinet phonograph
Yes, you’re going to pack it the same way, and then if it’s a large cabinet put it in a crate.
@@1974hurt ok thanks
Hi sir, My Edison Diamond Disc Reproducer Will scratch record. Is the needle worn?Is there any way to fix it?
That sounds like you need a new diamond stylus! Either the diamond is worn out or missing and that’s what rides on the record.
