I found your channel by accident while researching about oriental orthodox and I am so happy I did. I am oriental orthodox( Ethiopian) and your channel is a blessing. we use the ankh here as well. I hope you continue this journey and pray that the church unite soon.
I'm Catachumin. Thank you for your help in learning about our Faith. Interesting how you say that Christ is the fulfillment of all religions. Very cool! Check out how the Monks from Russia brought the good news to the First Nation Peoples of Alaska. How Jesus is known as the"Seal Cub" of God because they had no idea what a Lamb was. Blessed... It's all blessed. Anyways thank you I hope to be your sibling in Christ.
XC Peace be with you! Among those using the Burgundy flag (Aspa de Borgoña), you mentioned Florida; I want to add Alabama (my state). Thank you for sharing quality content on your channel.
Adopted February 16, 1895. Legislature decreed it would be the cross of St. Andrew.. (I wonder if they chose it because of the British Isles heritage of so much of Alabama? I just looked that up. Wonderful.. I was born and grew up there.. last visit (and probably final) in 2018. I miss it.. I am so embarrassed that i never thought about the symbol.. because i didn't know about St. Andrew's cross then. Much less, how he was martyred.. Blessed Orthodox Church.. for teaching me so much. Thank you. ☦☦📿☦☦ Also, Mobile, as a city founded by the French, and the first capital of French Louisiana, made MUCH use of the fleur de lis.
If you're gonna do part three, may I suggest you check out khachkars? Also, in the first video you mentioned Christian plants, it'd be nice to learn of some. Thank you for this interesting video.
Khachkars - good call! Could be good to do an episode down the road on shrines/monuments where they'd fit in really well with some other interesting ones from around the Christian world. And yes, we'll likely do an episode on symbolism of plants, and another on animals! Thanks for watching
Only 755 more videos on Christian symbols to go🤣. Congratulations on the 2k subs my friend. I am sure you will reach 100k in no time! #KeepOnDrinkingThatTea 😃🫖☦️
These are excellent videos. If I can add: The maltese cross is the Symbol of the Order of Malta, which is the modern, abreviated name of the Knights of the Hospital of Saint John, in Jerusalem, created basically at the same time as the Templars. It is one of the only two still existing military orders of the Church (the other being the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre). It gained its name of the Order of Rhodes and Malta when it was given sovereignty over those islands in the past. The order is considered a state, per se, but is still under obedience to the Catholic Church. The cross of Saint Peter can be found, for example, in the innermost part of the gates to the presbyterium of St. Peter`s Basilica main altar. Whenever there is a mass being transmitted the camera sometimes show it if you pay enough attention.
I have heard that the Oreo cookie is a symbol used by the knights Templar all around and a variant of the leviathan cross in the center all together on the cookie
I’d like to mention a few additional symbols. The Tau, sometimes called the St. Anthony [of Egypt] Cross, which has Hebrew Bible origins and was adopted by St. Francis of Assisi and now is worn by the Secular Franciscan Order as their habit. Another is IHS, invented by the Franciscan St. Bernardine of Siena, then adopted by the Jesuits. You might also distinguish between crosses, crucifixes, and crucifixes representing the Risen Christ.
We mentioned IHS in volume 3! It's an excellent symbol. Actually predates Bernadine in existence by several hundred years, but definitely wasn't popular or as effective until his absolutely ingenious use of it. We do plan an episode on crucifixes! Thanks for pointing that out!
whole things sounds good. and then you finish "remember him" pointing upwards and I go "owja, a dude in the sky with a beard... yea nevermind" Christians would to well to NOT refer to 'it' or god as if it was a person. god is beyond that right? then why do christians always go and refer to 'a person' or 'that guy' in the sky... so annoying. god is everywhere right... so why point upwards even?? god is universal truth, right? a guy in the sky would suggest a perspective. their conflicting images. annoying. one shouldn't refer to universal truth as a point of perspective, it's a conflicting communication and it's what puts most atheists off because they can sense the conflict. they don't believe in god because it's suggested to be 'just' a point of perspective, even IF it's an almighty guy in the sky, by the way christians refer to god with "him" pointing upwards to the sky... annoying. I do not believe in a dude in the sky. but I do see much much merit in a universal truth beyond our understanding. I'm very annoyed by this. (same reaction if it was a chick in the sky btw. point is: if you refer to a person it suggests a point of perspective and thus this is contradicting with god being the all-knowing universal truth. Perhaps it's a semantics thing more than anything that I'm annoyed by)
I would recommend visiting an Orthodox Church and finding out the Eastern Orthodox understanding of God and the personal nature of that understanding. It's deeper and more interesting than we can express in a video, and online discussion is never really enough.
