    Excellent video, tree stand hunter here and the aim point was spot on. That shot placement will cut both lungs as the arrow passes through the deer. You probably looking at 50 yards for the deer to collaspe. Bring some corn to place on the ground where the deer expired and say a small prayer for the greatful harvest. Good hunting, aim small shoot small. Oh one thing I do to avoid the BUCK fever/shakes is to view the deer as a target in my yard, works great for me and my buddies.

    A very good advise you gave. Don't look at the deer or antlers, focus on the kill spot.. that will also help keeping you calm.

    When I first started hunting, my dad used to get out old hunting magazines and an ink pen and make me mark where I would shoot that deer. Follow that front leg up has always been drilled in my head. Good video!

    Good knowledge, I hope bow hunters here in Australia see this video, that's exactly how I place my shot and so far I have never lost a kill, I'm on my 274th samber deer and I have also shot over 300 other species of deer using the same method. It's great to see someone make a perfect video.
    Cheers

    Learned that marble tip from Steven Rinella also. Since I do mainly gun deer I know I'm confident with my rifle, scope and bullets I can shoot 1 moa groupings with my rifle so I aim for that spot and know that I have at most a 5in radius of a kill shot in case I make a bad shot. Great advice and video!

    Why don’t you want to hit slightly forward and get more impact on the heart?
    Wouldn’t that be better?
    Wouldn’t that impact and pierce both lungs and the heart?

    Use whatever front leg is in the most perpendicular angle to the ground. Follow that up with your site until your centered on the lower 1/3 of the deer, X marks the spot. Allowing for deer movement and all other variables this is by far your best aim point. You can never shoot a broadhead that's to sharp.

I use 20" and 22" for my crossbows. Easton bloodline arrows 400 spine at 31" for my bows. I've tried other bolts and arrows over the years.. pile-driver and Easton bloodline only fodder I will ever use. I've learnt so much from your videos Keep up the good work your doing.

    • @gregjennings9442
      @gregjennings9442 5 років тому +2

      Christopher DiBona : Center. A human’s is in the center also. That thing about it being on the left is urban legend based on where the aorta connects.

    • @MrKing-qd7gi
      @MrKing-qd7gi 5 років тому +2

      Greg Jennings humans is on the left. Well more off centered left but it is not directly in the center.

    • @gregjennings9442
      @gregjennings9442 5 років тому +2

      Mr King: That depends on what you consider the heart. The heart muscle itself is generally biased to the left and canted to the right. But if you consider the whole heart complex, it is might as well be centered. Doesn't matter, really. If you put a bullet or broadhead through that general area on a deer, you have meat in the freezer.

    • @MrKing-qd7gi
      @MrKing-qd7gi 5 років тому

      Greg Jennings well I’m talking human, not 100% sure with deer to be honest but yah if you were to go for the center on a human (not recommended) you would hit heart although you wouldn’t hit the center of the heart.

    I would disagree about aiming that far forward because unless your a spot on shot, you might hit shoulder. I did that with a doe this year and sadly she ls still on trail camera a month after the shot with the arrow in her shoulder. I like to aim for center of lungs so if I miss back a few inches I hit gut, which still kills it faster than shoulder, but if I miss forward a few inches my shot is perfect.

    question. without harvesting the game, is it safe to say that you know you got a lung shot when the animal bleeds out nose and mouth?

    • @danielleknight7411
      @danielleknight7411 7 років тому +9

      I'm surprised no one has responded sooner to this question. You may have already found the answer, but just in case you haven't the answer to that would be mostly likely, yes. Here's why. The nose and mouth are connected to the animal's airways. If you put a bullet or an arrow through the lungs, the animal will sometimes cough or attempt to breathe to clear its rapidly filling lungs. When it does this, blood will spurt, drip, spew etc. from the nose and mouth. Also, after the shot and if you have to track your game by a blood trail, the blood will sometimes appear bright and frothy or bubbly, indicating a lung shot. Hope this helps you out in the future!

    I wouldn't really call it a "technology". Technology is something invented to solve a problem or improve a process. This is simply a visual cue to improve recognition of the vital area.

    • @jaybird9391
      @jaybird9391 4 роки тому +1

      Having a 3-D deer on the inside and outside, from a plastic or rubberized molded injection decoy in front of your eyes for the lesson, that's technology if I've ever understood it! Creating better, ethical hunters and standards, based on these technology pieces here in this video, is awesome for the deers humane treatment and young hunters, having to track deer far or suffering of the animal due to bad shot placement and negating that by watching this video and sharing it with others instead of having to travel around to get this information is technology brother!

      I’ve done it with my excalibur using a swhacker to the base of the skull while the deer was under my stand lowering its head to browse.
      It dropped like a ton of bricks, motionless .
      The quickest kill shot I ever made....yes it can be done but I don’t recommend it for someone not familiar enough with their weapon.
      Not only do I practice on the ground but an archery hunter can greatly benefit from practicing from their stand at different distances /elevations in order to be confident enough to take epic shots with archery equipment.
      Crossbows are extremely accurate if you have a quality piece , a good scope and lots of confident practice time.

    A deers lungs DO NOT collapse! That’s not what happens. That’s not why “they drop”. Among many other things, it is NEVER advisable to shoot through the scapula with an arrow. Good grief. No wonder the animals lost to archery equipment is so damn high. 👎👎👎👎👎👎

    • @kykrazy6050
      @kykrazy6050 5 років тому

      gary blessing....a deers lungs may or may not collapse,but the reason a deer "drops" is because they hear a noise they haven't heard and are simply reacting. Also may notice 9/10 a deer will run back the same way it came from because it has got to that point thus far without detecting danger and so they run back the way they think is safe. Its not always the case but more times than not.

    • @garyblessing2253
      @garyblessing2253 5 років тому +1

      KY KRaZY that’s not what you said in your video. I’m seriously not trying to be a jerk, but people look to videos like these to learn. When they are being taught things that aren’t true or a terrible idea (shooting through shoulder blades), I feel the need to respond. Lungs collapse when chest cavity pressure is lost. That’s not what an arrow or bullet does and that’s not how deer expire 99.9% of the time. Severed blood vessels fill the lung with blood and cause suffocation and death. Nothing to do with collapsed lungs. I will also disagree with your assessment of where deer go after being shot. Hundreds of deer tracked behind a dog tell me differently.

    • @the32honda
      @the32honda 5 років тому +2

      @@kykrazy6050 The term 'dropping' used here is not referring to when a deer "ducks" due to noise, but rather when a deer is shot and drops on the spot or very nearby.

    God gave us the .30-06 for a reason. Shoot them in the neck with a .30-06 a they drop in their tracks. It shuts off the electricity to the rest of the body (breathing, voluntary/involuntary muscles). If you take enough gun to the deer woods and limit yourself to ethical shots with said rifle, tracking wounded game becomes an unnecessary skill like wagon driving.

      I bow hunt also but I love your theory. I take a neck/headshot whenever I can with a rifle. I remember watching hunting shows as a kid and they shot the deer and it always ran off and they were doing a big high five and getting all excited and I’m thinking they missed because it should have dropped! Then sometimes they would wait and track it the next morning. We can’t do that here because the coyotes would have eaten it overnight. It’s nice when they drop when you shoot.

    Jw Custer,
    You shot a deer with unusual heart placement. The heart is usually located just as this gentleman shows it. Your deer may have been quartering more than you realized. I have done that a lot of times. I thought an animal was perfectly broadside and the entrance and exit wounds proved otherwise. I'm NOT saying what said is not the truth just passing on my experiences.
