Dundee is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lakeland-Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area.
I got run out of town in Dundee back in 69 by the Chief's Deputy because he tried his best to get to my girlfriend and she wouldn't have anything to do with him . We were runaways from TN and had been on the road for about 3 months. Picked oranges, slung watermelons and finally got jobs at the truck stop and motel out on the 4 lane in Dundee. I was the cook and my girl was a waitress. We had a little efficiency apartment and the Deputy came banging on the door around 1:30 in the morning and took us to jail, but the Chief let us out the next morning. Then the Deputy went to the owner of the efficiency and threatened the owner of the little motel with the efficiency that we were renting with arrest for letting us stay there without being married. Some kind of ancient Florida law. . She came to the door and said we had to leave. My car was broke down so we got what little belongings we had and started walking down the street, Then the Deputy saw us and pulled up along the sidewalk and said if we weren't out of town before dark he was going to arrest us for vagrancy. Then he cursed me out and sped off. We lost our jobs and didn't have any money. We eventually went back to TN and got married. Then I got drafted and sent off to Nam. Made it back home in one piece and just lived a normal married life afterwards. I'll never forget Dundee, FL.
