I did send you a message about this a few weeks ago.. I found a fix for this issue on my two Pro 16 phones. If you shoot a 5X or 0.5X image first and THEN shoot a 1X image I am not seeing the issue. But after I shoot 1X photo my 2nd photo at 1X will see the issue again. But if I shoot a 0.5X or 5X photo again and switch back the 1X I don't see the issue. I think it is a build up of energy in the backlight sensor.
Hey! when you say shoot a 5x or 0.5x photo first, do you mean a regular photo or a 30 second photo? Could you elaborate on the process you used? I'd try it and report back as well
I have a iPhone 16 Pro Max. I tested with a 30 second night shot and my phone has this problem. I don’t plan on replacing it since I’m not a big photographer but thank you for highlighting this issue.
Wow! It really sucks so many people are having this issue and apple isn’t making it right. I’m feeling very lucky my 16 pro max hasn’t exhibited this issue in any of my images so far. Praying y’all get justice
She is she lives in Australia and the laws in Australia are different from the laws in America. I’ve never had a problem, switching out my phone or replacing a camera module or anything at my Apple Store in Mission Viejo no problems whatsoever but I’m gonna check this iPhone 15 Pro Max, and do some Astro photography and see if I have any linesblue lines
My iPhone 15 pro max does this also - but only with 30s exposure. Very noticeable blue and red haze. Same pattern everytime, like a painting... But with 10 second exposure, NONE AT ALL. Considering the 30 second is just 10 seconds stacked x3, it's very interesting.
Thanks for all your hard work investigating this issue. I’ve used iPhone since way back. I have the 15 Pro Max. I do a bit of photography including aurora and astro. My wife has a Samsung. I don’t know how to drive a Samsung, but the features iPhone DON’T have that are standard on the Samsung was the FIRST time I’d ever considered changing. Hearing the issues and appalling service regarding this issue is making me strongly consider not purchasing an iPhone ever again. A faulty product is one thing. Shafting your customers is an entirely different matter and I’m disgusted with Apple, but not surprised. That’s again Shayne for all your effort and sharing your findings with the wider community.
I have a 15 Pro Max (late 2023 build) and it also has blue lines but they are usually not as obvious as what has been shown here. They are in a consistent location but only show up in very dark photos, becoming more obvious when the images are adjusted. They are not visible in most of my astro images, only some. So this isn't a new problem, it just seems to be worse in the 16
Shayne sorry for all the frustrating problems you've had, I've appreciated your videos using the iPhone but understand about you having to move on for the next year at least if not longer.
16 Pro Max here, If I shoot RAW and open in Lightroom the issue is corrected. It has to be a bug in Photos. I do have the issue when opening RAW (or not) in Photos.
I tried the 30 second 1x then 5x then 1x trick and indeed it fixed most of the blue noise but I looked at the settings and the camera went from iso 8000 to 6400. I think that you’ll need to use a camera app that allows you to fix the iso at 6400 or below. I almost never shoot above 3200 on my “real” cameras so I wouldn’t expect much over this on iPhone
I just got my iphone 16 Pro Max coming from a pixel 6 and I absolutely love it. I was nervous to test the camera with the 30 second exposure as I love astrophotography. I tested it with 10 sec and 30 sec exposure with ISO 6400 and I have no blue lines at all which I am so thankful for. I don't know if this would make any difference but I just bought the new stock/ second batch of the 16 pro max? Also my friend has the problem on his 15 pro max with red lines instead. I noticed you had the red lines on your 15 pro max in an older video Shayne so has this issue been happening not just on the 16 but older models too?
Not sure if you've already mentioned this in a previous video or post but you used to do a lot of content with the Pixel series. The 9 Pro is great for astro.
It is clear there are issues for some people, & others think they have the issue because there is not a consistent testing method & light leakage can make the blue lines. What is needed is a systematic way of testing. A clear step by step approach that can show the same results each time. Or show that the issue changes during testing. A way of testing without light getting in. If anyone gets the blue marks in the same place every time then there are post processing methods that could be created to reduce that blueness. Not ideal, but we process them anyway. Have you found the results move around your test images or are they consistent? Advising everyone, whether or not they have the issue to return their phones is rather extreme. If, after testing appropriately & consistently someone's phone clearly has the issue, then fine advise them to replace it. But as you say this does not impact us all.
The request to return the phone is because of the “f u’ apple gave to anyone with this issue. Not all problems that happen in life come with clear ways to test for them. Reality isn’t that neat. I’m sure some way could be thought up but instead of working on it apple made is clear they don’t care. They don’t want the headache. I was about to buy the 16 pro but I probably won’t now. The night mode photography was a huge draw on top of the fact we are in the apple ecosystem already. I’m just going to stick with my bare bones SE. If there is a chance I can’t take good photos even if I spend 1k I’ll save the 1k and keep what I have.
I have the issue too, but it's too late for me to have my phone replaced. It was bought on launch day. Thank you so much for your research into this topic which I would not be aware about otherwise. I hope it'll be fixed on the 17...
@@ShayneMostyn then technically all those people who claimed to have their phone replaced on the spot at the time of the purchase due to the blue line problem shouldn't have been able to do so at all, shouldn't they?
My 512GB 16 Pro Max did not have the blue lines, but I replaced it with a 1TB version but this one does show wide blue blurry lines on the bottom two thirds when shooting directly into the dark
I’m really shocked by this. Firstly, that this problem occurred at all, secondly, by Apple poor customer service. Steve Jobs would not have accepted that blue lines through photos was ok. And especially low light photos at that. Shocking bad. Here’s hoping that at the very least they advise their supplier of the camera module and quietly update it in all devices moving forward.
Boy am I glad I switched to Pixel Pro 9 after being with Apple since 2008! I had already gotten sick of Apple promising better cameras every year and nothing changes. I researched and got a Pixel 9 Pro and I couldn't be happier!!
First iPhone 16pro i had, had this issue. Apple agreed to send me a new phone and that the blue light was not normal behaviour. I Got my replacement iPhone 16pro and 1x camera now has no blue light issues.
I don’t have it to hand but the settings said the manufacturer date was August and it was built in China. Apple really needs to get to grips with this. This new one states the same manufacturer date and is also made in china. Clearly they don’t want to announce it large scale.
I will say this, I’m not going to return my iPhone 16 Pro, I don’t do much low light photography and in the shots that I have taken with my iPhone 16 Pro, I’m very happy. With that said, my 16 Pro does have this issue, I tested it out after your last video, and I’m not happy about that. I don’t take the kinds of shots that you do, where I live is constantly covered by clouds so I don’t think I’ll ever miss those features, but when you’re paying £1000 for a phone, you expect that everything in that phone will be perfect, and the camera module in my phone isn’t. I’m not the type of person who sells their phones on, I keep them or give them away, so I’m not worried about the resale value, but for others, that’s definitely going to be a concern. I can see this phone being less valuable long term than a 15 Pro due to its cameras. Pretty shitty of Apple to just wash their hands of this and pretend it’s not an issue.
Went to the Apple store preemptively and asked if they would replace the phone within the 2 week window if the blue lines were present, they said they would "If they deemed it to be a problem" which tells me no way. So I'm putting off buying one till it's fixed.
Shayne, thank you so much for bringing this up, otherwise I would’ve noticed it when it would’ve been already too late. I had 2 16 Pro Max phones and both were affected. I had to drive to the next Apple Store multiple times now, each drive taking around 2 hours. Since I was within the 14 day return window, they opted for an replacement which then could’ve only get returned to the store locally again, no option to send it back to save me from driving 4 hours. I didn’t want to continue playing their quality control lottery, so I finally decided to return both phones and get my money back. Also they stated that I was the first customer in this store who complained about this issue ( I guess because most people either don’t do low light photography or can’t even notice this ). I’m keeping my 13 Pro Max which still gets the job done honestly. But still, I’m super frustrated about Apple. This is absolutely unacceptable for a phone this expensive.
It’s not the same main camera as the 15 Pro though. It’s a new, faster sensor. Faster read-out sensors often have lower dynamic range unfortunately, and that shows up most in the deep shadows.
I started simple astrophotography on my iphone 13 pro max with help from your channel...got really pleasing results when photographing the constellations but apart from that I found the 13 pro max to be the shittiest camera ever for general photography...horrible over-processed images, when zoomed in the pics are just a mess. Was thinking of getting the new 16 pro max until I watched one of your previous vids about this model so I'm glad I held back to see what the outcome was...sorry you've had to go thru all this crap!
I don’t have the problem. I got my 16 Pro Max from Spectrum Mobile in the US. It was manufactured in China in July. I took my phone into my small guest bathroom, put it on the sink counter, closed the door, put a towel along the base of the door to block all outside light, turned off the light and took a 30 second exposure image. I was concerned the light from the phone itself might leak into the picture because it seemed like a lot of light and the phone doesn't sit perfectly flat because of the lens protrusion. Also, I have it in the Apple clear case. Despite the possible light contanmination, the photo came out pitch black, not even the slightest hint of ANYTHING but solid pitch black. I've taken some nice astrophotos with it already, including some good shots of our recent comet. I just took a picture of a pine tree in my backyard at 25X zoom that we know should be crap, but it looks spectacular. I can even see tiny cracks within individual pieces of bark. The tree was about 50ft away. That's just a guess as I sit here on my computer. It was somewhere in the 40 to 60ft range. At any rate, I was surprised to see this amount of clarity and detail from 25X zoom. I certainly didn't have it with my iPhone 12 Pro Max at max zoom, whatever that zoom amount was, I don't remember because I seldom used it. I've shot a number of test shots with this iPhone 16 Pro Max, and while it can't compete with a decent camera, it's an improvement over the iPhone 12 Pro Max and pefectly capable of taking great photos under most conditions. I don't think much of its astrophotography potential because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and I majored in astronomy and astrophysics in college. We imaged with large telescopes. I own large telescopes (by amateur standards). Astrophotography demands much more sophisticated equipment than a smartphone with the physical limitations of its tiny lenses. Have you taken a picture of the Moon or planets with a smartphone, any brand? They ALL suck. lol
I sent you a message a few weeks ago about my take on the lines. I think it’s got to do with the colour of the lens ring, meaning it is not black but slightly blue? Look at a few breakdown videos, you will see the difference.
I feel so lucky that my 16 pro works without any known issues by me. But given that i remember my treatment when i got an iphone 4, and it sucked to be me.
Hi Shayne Thanks for the good work, it certainly saved me from buying the 16 pro max. Thank god I waited for your results. Class action lawsuit springs to mind here...
For me it’s not as severe, but your test for 30s exposure will create a black photo with bunch of blue/red dots all over the screen, I think in total around 20 dots.
Hence why I decided to keep my paid off iPhone 15 Pro matte black 512 gb, this year. Even my wife usually upgrades every single year… but she kept her 15 pro max for the first time in 8+ years that she hasn’t. Heard nothing but bad news about the 16 Pro lineup, not to mention it’s only a spec bump ( S year) phone. The camera control is super gimmicky. I’ll hold off until the 17 or 18 Pro come out with something more substantial! 👀👀
Looks like the Xiomi 14T co-engineered by Leica is designed for low light photography. I don't have one, but at least some phone manufacturers are thinking about this market need.
But you have been made aware that the 13, 14, and even 15 have had this issue, maybe yours didn’t, but there are plenty of people on that same fb group that have the issue with those other models. It’s not new, only new to you. I have seen countless people post this issue with red and blue beams on some 13, 14, and 15 devices. It’s a sporadic issue with all these and other brands as well have night mode issues. So you can take your chances, but your iPhone 15 may have the issue as well, or your galaxy may have an issue as well I have seen galaxy phone night mode issues as well lol! Just throwing that out there because this is not just a iPhone 16 problem. Good luck!
I see the comments in the FB group. My other phones do have lines with the tabletop test, but nothing in the pics. That isnt an issue. Im yet to see any of the issues with the previous models with actual photos.
@ there are several, mostly with red beams in the 14 and 15 and blue as well, not all but just like the 16 it’s random and it is visible, I see several images with red and blue beams on there. Idk, like you said maybe yours don’t, but some do and they are posting about it, so I thought I would mention it, pretty certain I spotted red beams in your photo on a previous video from your 15 once I got to investigating it all. But it’s all good, I just feel it’s worth mentioning cause it’s there and an issue in some of those devices as well. All good, I appreciate you, if not for you I would have been stuck with the issue and nowI’m not, so don’t take me wrong or anything, I’m grateful for your info! Have an awesome day!
Its bad Shayne, what a cock up on Apple's part for a phone of that price as well! So glad I didnt go for the 16 Pro! Can see why you're so pissed off, Apple need to put it right they've admitted liability by replacing the first one, wow thats so bad for so many! ❤
Does it affect the 16 Pro or just the 16? I went to the Apple Store yesterday and tested a 16 Pro. Brought a totally black microfiber towel with me to test. 30-second face down shot onto a totally black towel. The result - totally black photo, don't see an issue there.
So that's the kind of test I ran a few weeks ago and thought my iPhone 16 pro was good. Then because of this video, I decided to test again... and I guess there was a little light leaking through the towel, and what should be some sort of gradient in the photo was banded with blue vertical lines. So, I am concerned about trying to do astrophotography with it and seeing these bands, but I'll have to test that next. I would also suggest testing between doing a regular 30s long exposure and a 30s proraw max photo. Seeing it through a range of ISOs as well.
Wow. This leaves me in a quandary. My IP13 is on its way out (battery) and I depend on my phone for medical sensors monitoring that I do. Do I try and hold on till IP17 and hope it’s better or go to older technology? (IP15). I guess throwing a new battery is also an option.
I recently got a new battery for my 12 pro max. Beforehand the staff kept saying it was $149 and I was ready to pay. But when I picked it up the replacement was free. Your mileage may vary.
No idea what Apple is doing but this is mad, it started with 15 Pro Max and its 5X and now it is on 1X main camera with 16 Pro/Max. 6:08 Be careful Apple don't like to be exposed, this might end up with very differenct kind of writting/letter send to you. PS. if this was a Pixel or Samsung, we would see this all over media outlets and "reviewers" talking about the issue.
I’m curious if this has anything to do with the oleophobic coating, And the blue hue that’s on the camera…I’d be curious to know if you used something to take the coating off if it would help at all…
Ive been hanging out a whole year to upgrade my phone to iphone 16 but after this I'm too worried I'll get this same problem and be left high and dry. So maybe its time to cut the umbilical and move to andriod now? Are andriods better at photography these days (including low light/astro)?
If a Samsung phone had this issue everyone should be acting like it is the end of the world as we know it. But Apple does it, not only they get away with it like it's nothing, but they also tell you something in the likes of "You're using it wrong". Just Wow. The richest company in the world wouldn't care less about fixing their own problems
Hey. I have the 16pro and the 15pro both. I tried the camera down on the table photo test using the 30 sec exposure on both. Got identical blue tint results on both. Not sure if it’s exclusive to 16pro or not sure if it’s a problem. Perhaps the ios 18 update is the problem (if not hardware related)?
Hey Shane, I’m wondering can’t you find a camera module a brand new camera module and switch it out and see if that fixes your problem because I’m thinking maybe it’s the modules I’m wondering if that would fix it I hope you can get this issue address Shane because your Astro photography is phenomenal when it does workcheers mate. I hope that helps.
I really like your channel. Due to your timely warning, I returned my phone twice, finally I have one that works. Are you going to stop talking about astrophotography for iPhones now? I hope to not fall victim to “friendly fire”. I hope Apple resolves this as I and many others have substantial investments in this Apple “eco system”.
Once someone from Samsung Korea also admitted that banana issue is a real defect, then they changed their minds and said it's not a defect, just a boken...
Blue lines for what we do here. The Ultra Wide is not good. The 15PM at 12mp was better. 16 is too soft at edges to be called a Pro anything unfortunately.
@@ShayneMostyn maybe. But its clearly a hardware issue. If it was software they all would do it. My photos look like your iphone 15 pictures, if a little crisper. But they are not compressed by youtube. Its such a shame companies no longer have your back when you buy their products.
The concern I have for a software fix is the pattern has been slightly different in each of the three phones I’ve found this in. They won’t be able to apply a direct filter to fix it.
When i get my 16 pro max the first thing im doing is taking a long exposure shot face down on a table to see if i have this issue. Its a joke how regardless of how niche the audience is which will notice this issue, theyre acting like its a non issue
You have my total support on this. Obvious hardware problem with an unknown amount of sensors and Apple leaves their customers high and dry. Shame on them. I can't see them getting away with it in the long run, though. Great set of videos about the problem, helping people get a grip on what's happening!
I appreciate you taking up this issue. I’ve read plenty of the negative comments regarding you harping on a niche issue affecting a very low percentage of iPhone users. There are lots of niche areas of photography that iPhone owners engage in, so to dismiss a complaint as an over-reaction over a form of photography you think is irrelevant is very immature. Besides, the previous models of iPhone were really good and kept getting better, so why wouldn’t the 16 Pro continue that trend. It appears as it came to a shocking end and Apple is at a loss as to why it happened. Their backpedaling is what’s most disturbing here, and that’s something to which all iPhone users ought to be paying attention.
The more niche an issue is the more people SHOULD harp on it. Just because an issue affects a few people, if the product was advertised to be able to do something it should do that thing and people who spend a bit more for a phone so they can do something they enjoy with it (not everyone can buy a phone and then also a camera so having a phone that can produce decent photos is great) should get the same attention as any other issue with a phone. What I think happened is they started getting a lot of returns and investigated the cause of the issue and found it was something major in manufacturing. Something that is hard or expensive to change and affects a ton of phones so if the problem caught main stream attention, they would have to immediately fix the cause and replace a lot of phones as people tested their phones and found they had an issue they didn’t notice before. So they are saying it’s in spec while hopefully slowly changing what they need to change to fix the issue for the next generation of phones. or maybe not. There is a common issue with their laptops that went unfixed for multiple generations that caused their motherboards to self destruct due to putting the power connection for the screen right next to the one for the CPU when they are supposed to be as far apart as possible. If a microscopic piece of debris gets in there it shorts out. Either way this needs more attention. Tech reviewers are the people that need to hear about this. It’s a close circle of creators and article writers and they talk a lot.
@@Adam_Gw2 I am looking at the Vivo (hard to get) or Xiomi Ultra 14, but i've not found any Astro related content about those on youtube. Even Shane doesn't review them. Safest bet would be the Pixel and as @bluezorro999 mentioned i don't think the Samsung can compete with the Pixel or Xiomi.
Lets effing test Iphone 17 and onwards on day one. No more future purchases unless they fix this. I will NOT pre-purchase anything else from Apple. Will wait 6 months at least.
I’ve learned so much from you over the years . First with my Samsung S21, 22 and 23 and then with my iPhone pro 14 . I was just getting ready to upgrade to the 16 and I am SO glad you warned me about this. Astrophotography with my phone is hugely important to me. Thank you for all that you do! You’re amazing!!
Managed to get a refund on my iPhone 16 Pro Max thanks to you highlighting this. Initially bought a Samsung 24 Ultra - but that's even worse. Awful camera. Iphone 15 Pro Max is next on the list - hopefully that will be OK!
This issue is present in some 13,14, and 15 models, some blue banding and some red. I wish he would mention this as it’s all over that same Facebook page lol good luck, my 16 replacement works great no issue!
Hello Shayne, thanks for your work. I was planing to buy iP16, but now you cool down my emotions. I'll wait for improvement of that very expensive toy.
Hey man, thank you so much for making these videos and raising awareness to this issue. You seem to be the only person with reach who noticed or cares about this. I am trying to raise awareness as well, hopefully we’ll get Apple to do something about this, but if not enough people are pissed at them, I doubt it’s gonna happen.
Weird I was recommended this video. I'm a photographer with several professional cameras. I expect my phone to connect to other phones. I expect my cameras to take pictures. Having a little camera on the back is just a plus... I mean a simple $300 GoPro shoots better than my $1K 16pro. Sorry just don't understand this rant. At the most it seems like a software issue.
No idea why you would have been recommended this video either. If you dont take astro images with your phone, it makes no sense why you have been presented with it. Phones have been able to shoot astrophotography for years now. For years we have been doing this without any issue. Previous models have had no issues like this. If you dont do this, I totally get it why you dont understand this "rant" as you put it. The mind does boggle though. Why if all you want your phone to do is to connect to other phones, why do you have a 16pro? Thanks for the comment
@@ShayneMostyn It was a free upgrade from my iPhone 12 Mini. Old phone's battery was getting terrible, I read the Pro models got better battery life. That's about it. Funny I'm actually going to try this type of photography with my phone now just cause I'm curious.
I returned mine due to massive blue noise lines. They said that they had never heard of it. Replicated at store and they replaced it. Replacement is perfect.
If you’re in 🇦🇺 then forget this 2 weeks return malarkey and just go with ACL rights … ie “if you’d known this would be an issue then you can return for full refund”. Praise the lord for the ACCC lol 😂
I returned my 16 Pro. For many reasons. There's just waaay too many issues with this phone. Besides the camera issues, and lack of innovation when it comes to their post-processing (Pixel phones are miles ahead now). The last drop for me was when I started to notice how buggy and stuttery iOS 18 still is. Even on the newest devices. Bugs that have been present for several YEARS now! It just reeks of laziness from Apple.
@@borisdg - "Its on 15 and even 14. Its not 16 specific issue." Are you sure? I've only seen this in relation to the 16. I have the 15 Pro Max and it's just perfect. Shane hasn't mentioned any issues with prior model either.
@@MarcoNeroDesign Yes, I saw comments on some of his past videos, where people with 15 Pro are reporting the same. I saw similar stuff in Reddit posts also.
The issue is people are not actually taking photos, just doing the tabletop test. Any phone will have issue with the tabletop test. Its only to help you see it in an actual photo. My 15 has marks on the tabletop test, but nothing on the photos.
Of course it is a fault - otherwise every single iphone 16 would show this fault! And it has a Night & Astro Mode so by definition it is intended for this purpose. There are still new iphone 15pro's available on Amazon but I am concerned that the AI they are adding in December might mess them up & it will be outside the 14 days etc. So, no iphone for me. Bother. But it is way too expensive to take a risk with. Thank you for raising this internationally for us all to be aware.
Anyone with isseus can you please post your manufacture date its shown within the General -> about -> Manufactured Date section. It could be a bad batch of Camera Modules causing it or batchof phones.
You take too long to get to the point, I nearly closed the video 5 times before you got to it…. Agree that apple should fix this, it’s a regression of functionality
I take as long as I take to get to the point. You should definitely start a channel and do create videos that are shorter and more to the point. Then you will get the people that will say you don't cover enough and are too fast.
No problem for me. iPhone 16 Pro was a major upgrade from my 14 Pro. I got lots of great photos of the comet, and the Milky Way.
That's very interesting
Hey! when you say shoot a 5x or 0.5x photo first, do you mean a regular photo or a 30 second photo? Could you elaborate on the process you used? I'd try it and report back as well
I'd like to see Shayne do a vid on this if it does work
Please specify how you did this so that others like myself can replicate and test. This way we can get more data.
Sorry mate, I get so many messages I just dont see them all. Ive just tested this and it make zero difference for me.
I have a iPhone 16 Pro Max. I tested with a 30 second night shot and my phone has this problem. I don’t plan on replacing it since I’m not a big photographer but thank you for highlighting this issue.

So this isn't a new problem, it just seems to be worse in the 16
I think you may be the first person to notice it in actual photos. Its definitely much worse on the 16.
Yes please, can we have some more content on Pixel astrophotography.
@@Marynicole830 And these problems are not the untestable ones obviously.
I’m due for an upgrade. What should we get instead?
15Pro max
So glad I still have the 15 - thanks for your efforts informing us.
I have the issue too, but it's too late for me to have my phone replaced. It was bought on launch day. Thank you so much for your research into this topic which I would not be aware about otherwise. I hope it'll be fixed on the 17...
i thought they have a one year warranty if it's the manufacturing problem.
ahh but thats the trick Dave. They are saying its within spec and not a fault at all
@@ShayneMostyn then technically all those people who claimed to have their phone replaced on the spot at the time of the purchase due to the blue line problem shouldn't have been able to do so at all, shouldn't they?
@ exactly mate. I think I mentioned that in the video.
I was just about to get a 16 Pro Max on the T-Mobile app minutes ago. THANK GOD I stumbled upon this video without even looking for it!
Boy am I glad I switched to Pixel Pro 9 after being with Apple since 2008! I had already gotten sick of Apple promising better cameras every year and nothing changes. I researched and got a Pixel 9 Pro and I couldn't be happier!!
Hi Shayne, thanks for the video. Which phone would you recommend at the moment for low light and astrophotography. Thanks
Pixel
@@ShayneMostyn I'm LOVING my Pixel 9 Pro! Been taking great astro shots with the pier (what's left) in Naples, FL.
First iPhone 16pro i had, had this issue. Apple agreed to send me a new phone and that the blue light was not normal behaviour. I Got my replacement iPhone 16pro and 1x camera now has no blue light issues.
What was the manufacfure date on box and where was it assembled ?
Good decision mate, id highly suggest you checkout Xperia 1 mk VI for better astro and manual photography.
I’m sorry for that issue , the best solution you did that you refund the iPhone 16 pro
I feel so lucky that my 16 pro works without any known issues by me. But given that i remember my treatment when i got an iphone 4, and it sucked to be me.
Hi Shayne
Thanks for the good work, it certainly saved me from buying the 16 pro max. Thank god I waited for your results.
Class action lawsuit springs to mind here...
So what you're saying is keep my iPhone 15 pro max, and hope the iPhone 17 is better. The 16 sounds like a bummer.☹
For me it’s not as severe, but your test for 30s exposure will create a black photo with bunch of blue/red dots all over the screen, I think in total around 20 dots.
Terrible, absolutely terrible customer service, gutted your going through this buddy, very expensive, 🏴
For the difference in image results I'll take my Pixel 9pro XL over any other phone every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
That's a bummer to hear. I bought a 16 pro based on your original video saying it seemed to be great... at that point 🙁
It was. Over time... not so.
Well... what about samsung or Pixel or OnePlus?
Looks like the Xiomi 14T co-engineered by Leica is designed for low light photography. I don't have one, but at least some phone manufacturers are thinking about this market need.
Master, this epic with iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max and night photos is better than "The Bold and the Beautiful"! Greetings from Europe/Poland. 👍👍👍
I guess I am just lucky because I have no blue lines on mine. I’ve gotten some gorgeous star photos with my 16 pro Max
Time to get the Pixel 9 Pro XL then!
This sounds like a coating layer problem on the sensor of the camera module
Is this only an issue on the iPhone 16 Pro Max? I am not seeing an issue on my 16 Pro.
He said his pro max didn’t have the issue, only his pro.
But not everyone will have it. It’s a lottery basically.
Come on, if it is a widespread issue time will pay an a new gate will arrive … not sure what would be the percentage of affected devices …
Previous models will show issues with the test. Im yet to see it on an actual photo.
Is it just me or do those photos actually look phenomenal?
So what do we do….use our 15 pro max and wait for series 17.
But the previous model has newton's rings.
So does this one
So did you manage to find a phone that doesn’t do it?
I really like your channel. Due to your timely warning, I returned my phone twice, finally I have one that works. Are you going to stop talking about astrophotography for iPhones now? I hope to not fall victim to “friendly fire”. I hope Apple resolves this as I and many others have substantial investments in this Apple “eco system”.
No, I just wont be doing it with the 16. I can still shoot with the 15
@@ShayneMostyn ok, I would imagine since the IOS version will be the same I should get good pointers from you. At least I got rid of the streaks!
Once someone from Samsung Korea also admitted that banana issue is a real defect, then they changed their minds and said it's not a defect, just a boken...
Is the only issue those lines? Or is it also worse in other aspects aswell?
just the blue lines i believe
Blue lines for what we do here. The Ultra Wide is not good. The 15PM at 12mp was better. 16 is too soft at edges to be called a Pro anything unfortunately.
Bummer: more and more I'm leaning on keeping my i12pm for a 5th year!
I had tried my iPhone 16 and shot lowlight and never seen a problem, ever. So i think it’s just a random problem.

We have the ACCC. Its a toothless tiger.
Thats a shame. We have the consumer rights act in the uk. And a watch dog.
@@mphmtb Im sure it will get some sort of resolution. Probably in an update that will hide the blue banding.
Oof. Crazy handling of this issue.
Lodge a complaint with Fair Trading and see what happens. If it’s in your favour it sets a precedent.
It’s a close circle of creators and article writers and they talk a lot.
maybe try with app
If you mention the 2 year consumer protection law and ACCC they might give you the refund. You may even have to contact the ACCC.
What would be the best Android phone for Astro?
Maybe some of the 1inch sensor models?
Probably. According to the phone model, you should do your own research between their low light performance. Specifically outdoor night photos.
Def not a Samsung S24 Ultra. Absolutely awful camera.
@@Adam_Gw2 I am looking at the Vivo (hard to get) or Xiomi Ultra 14, but i've not found any Astro related content about those on youtube.

Hello Shayne, thanks for your work. I was planing to buy iP16, but now you cool down my emotions. I'll wait for improvement of that very expensive toy.
How's this for a scenario, Apple will update ios removing 30 sec exposures, eliminating the problem.
I’m with you, why aren’t people talking about this. 🤨
It's too niche, people need to get the info out there and make enough noise to demand a product recall

What I meant to say with my earlier comment is that despite the bugs you encounter, I still find it to be more refined than anything else

Thank you for the update. The content is great and much appreciated.
