Tom Hanks is such a fan. "He's brilliant. He's brilliant."
That's exactly what I thought he said for over 20 years but scrolling through the comments someone wrote:
"It's a party! That's what it is. It's just a party!"
Referring to the closing part of the acceptance speech and I think they're right.
@@aperson2730 I think that's what he said. It's a party. But I'm not sure
They're actually best friends since ages ago. Vacations together, Rita Wilson and Patti Scialfa being besties and all
He's not brilliant, Neil Youngs song was much better.
@@judip609I think the optics of Neil Young getting awarded for the admittedly BEAUTIFUL song he wrote would have been all wrong. Look up what he said about gay people in Melody Maker magazine, it’s pretty awful.
My temperature rises 10 degrees just watching him walk to the stage. Lord. What a man.
Mine rises to 45
Take a cold shower, ladies.
Tiny dwarf
Did you ever watch Bruce making the we are the world song. Dude has zero confidence in himself and needed to ask everyone to leave to get one vocal out of him. Guy is a douche bag
What a humble acceptance speech from the well-acclaimed Boss...
Thank you all for inviting me to your party...
"From Philadelphia: Philadelphia. From Philadelphia: Streets of Philadelphia"
😂😂😂
That’s what happens when you can’t say “No” to drugs
I have to tell you Whitney made no mistake
There were TWO songs of this film nominated
The other one was 'Philadelphia' by Neil Young
The Boss even mentioned it in his speech
@@rell27 dumbass its 2 songs from 1 movie
@@mical2great Shut yo stupid “Hidin behind a computer talkin shit” ass up tryna school me on a comment I left 3 months ago 🖕🏽
omg, she's so beautiful
"You do your best work and you hope that it pulls out the best in your audience. Some of it spills over into the real world and into people's everyday lives. It takes the edge of the fear and allow us to recognise each other through our fail of differences." -Bruce Springsteen
I thought he said veil not fail?
I would have loved to hear Whitney sing all those songs.
Anynom thank God she didn't.
@@wildflowerhoneybee4423 she would have sung your Rusty soul to shreds
@@tdad8683 i love Whitney but her voice didn't fit with the song. it was made specifically for Bruce.
I wouldn't.
You see all the haters afraid she would’ve done the I Will Always Love You on all of them! Made them bigger than the original. Only Whitney! 💜
Two of the greatest ever artists... right there!
"I offered to sing them all again" 😂😂 Lmao we miss ya Whitney
Could have done without her shit opinion when she read Bruce won. "Great artist" all the fuck she ever did was sing other people's songs.
Love Springsteen but Neil Young's song was simply magical, the scene it is played in at the end of the song moved me greatly.
Agreed
Do you remember how big Springsteen's song was when it came out?
Neils is great as welll, which is why bruce shared the award with him. But Bruce's academy award is one of the most deserved of any original song, ever.
@@joso8801 well, thats just like your opinion man
Baconface.
I know i may have stated that like a fact, but you are correct. It is just an opinion, like 99% of comments on youtube and in life.
Im not sure there is any such fact book about the objectiveness of subjective award shows and their respective statuettes.
OMG. you couldn't be less wrong on that... Ive just listened to Young, i didnt even know it. SOP is so perfectly more marvellous, amazing, fantastic, spetacular, both lyrics and music, im used to listen to it several times a year, each word, each phrase, each instrument BEATS MY HEART...
"I offered to sing them all again" 😂😂 Lmao we miss ya Whitney
I would absolutely listen to a Whitney Houston cover of “Streets of Philadelphia”.
Thank God she didn't.
But she was doing crack
I am glad to see The Boss win an Oscar. I was also touched by the presentation of Neil Young's song in the movie. Whitney looks beautiful. That film was very heart felt to me and the music enhanced the story.
I’m glad that Tom Hanks during his own acceptance speech gave a special shout-out to Neil Young. I’m glad to have all these wonderful folks in my lifetime! The BOSS!
Miss you, Whitney!
That was a classy speech, in fairness.
Whitney Houston so classy and beautiful 😍 greatest voice of all time.
Nope
Anything with Philadelphia is aces in my book.
My personal winner that year was Bjork and her amazing track "Play Dead" (from The Young Americans). They didn't even nominate it but I like Bruce's song as well. Whitney was a fantastic presenter. I miss this lady!
Patti looks so proud 😩
"Streets of Philadelphia" is such a great song. It instantly tells you the story and make you feel sad and emotional. And I didn't even watched the movie and even I think the song great.
Plus Bruce is so hot. He's the boss.
You didn't watch the movie?! If you had Neil Young should have won
He's a 5 foot 4 dwarf
BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!
The Boss!!!
When rock singers were recognized....
Two New Jersey & Music Legends - Whitney & Bruce 💜🎶
That's right!!
Miss Whitney Houston, what a beautiful icon she was!!!
i just wanted to say that i really enjoy watching all these old academy awards ceremonies
Ack.....old to me is "black and white" film
I challenge all of you to watch the movie then listen to both Bruce Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia and then Neil Young's Philadelphia, and then tell me if you feel that Bruce really deserved to win the Oscar? Bruce Springsteen is certainly one of my favorite artists of all time. I have everything he has ever recorded and listen to it constantly. But I just really have to say that Neil Young's song was perfection in every possible way and it really deserved win the Oscar.
Springsteen my man....huge fan here
His documentary Western Stars should have been nominated for Best Documentary Feature right?
@@emiliobello2538 Wrong!
Man is brilliant and the fun that I ever loved as Dancing in the Dark my favorite song number one he is truly musician icon
Bruce is the best. Full stop!!
I loved Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen and as the more pop song understand why it won but Philadelphia by Neil Young still punches me in the gut.
(Philly girl talking here.)
Both heartbreaking and inspirational, a rare combination.
Congratulations Boss! You really deserve the Oscar for the Streets of Philadelphia! What a great song!
¡Grande Bruce Springsteen. Bien merecido!
incredibe singer, america's best whitney houston, rip
Roy orbison?
No way! He died in 1988.
Whitney!!!!!
I love this song and Bruce Springsteen but I really feel Neil Young should have won the Oscar. Philadelphia was superior lyrically and Young's delivery was beautiful. Glad Bruce acknowledged him. Both great poets.
alexxxandder couldnt agree more.
Neil really captured the feeling
Yes. I adore Bruce and this song, it's beyond wonderful. But Neil Young's song is pure magic, it's hard 4 me to be disloyal to Bruce but just this once Neil had thd superior song, however Streets is still epic , both songs are masterpieces.
Makes you listen to today's stuff they like to call music and weep. Ok, you got me, listen to today's stuff and you would weep anyway.
Neil Young made me cry with that song
Lip readers: any idea what Tom was saying at the end? Seemed like he was just sort of in awe of Springsteen for a moment, throwing his hands up, haha.
Like A Person said someone else said below, he's referencing the end of Bruce's speech: "It's a party! That's what it is. It's just a party!"
He was saying "He's brilliant! He's brilliant!"
@@midwesternmomma What a better speech that is!
RIP Whitney Houston (August 9, 1963 - February 11, 2012), aged 48
You will always be remembered as a legend.
That was a solid lineup of songs. My personal favorite of the 5 is "A Wink and a Smile," which was a perfect fit for 'Sleepless in Seattle." It was sung on the movie soundtrack by Harry Connick, Jr. and at the Oscars by Keith Carradine.
Yes I really enjoy that song but the experience of someone suffering from AIDS in the Springsteen song is just overpowering.
" Neil I share this with you."
;)
He should have refused the Oscar and given it to Neil.
@@Cornello Even his wife, Disney legend Daryl Hannah (since 1978) and their children
saw the 1994 Oscars. In many ways, they liked it so much. Today, they live in
California, Colorado, New York and Canada.
If I read his lips correctly, Tom Hanks totally says, "He's the man" hahaha
"It's a party! That's what it is. It's just a party!"
How the heck did the academy awards miss Michael Jackson for "Will You Be There" from the movie Free Willy? That song was Epic!
Agreed. I think one of the songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas should’ve been nominated.
Depends on if it was written for the movie or just for the Dangerous album.
Bruce Springsteen great song....Neil Young grabbed your heart and soul...and made you a better more empathetic person...xx
I loved Neil's song. It grabbed my heart too.
Love The Boss...but come on, Neil Young should have won for "Philadelphia" from the same movie! The lyrics were so simple, yet so moving and the ambience of the song resonated and echoed the film's message far better than Streets of Philadelphia.
Sarcastic Sugar yep
good thing opinions are like you know what
Beauty and the beast,Streets of Philadelphia,Can you feel the love tonight, colors of the wind,my hearth will go on,you must love me...WOW this was the decade of the original songs!!
And a Whole New World
My Hearth will go on? That's some decent fireplace right there...song wise though you cannot compare that to Streets of Philidelphia. Ditto the syrupy Elton John Disney specials. I don't hate them , Can you Feel is actually very good but Elton is such a cruise ship performer. His voice and delivery spoils everything.
This list should have been:
Philadelphia
Streets of Philadelphia
What’s This?
This is Halloween (WINNER)
A Wink and a Smile
Funny how you removed the only black woman (that should've won)
I remember this well when I was 18. We knew he'd win. It was a truly iconic song for an iconic film.
incredibe singer, america's best whitney houston, rip
omg, she's so beautiful
Bruce is the best. Full stop!!
You can't have 2 bests
Whitney pronounce JANET JACKSON... Two divas
Been waiting for so long for this video to be here! Finally! :D THE BOSS
Two of the greatest ever artists... right there!
still cant believe whitney is gone ...
he is a legendary rock star
and that was 1 of the most humble oscar speeches ever
and what a beautiful timeless song
Whitney so beautiful Princess!! Nice for the Boss shares the award with Neil Young!
It would have been nice to see the oscar be a tie for Neil and Bruce, really both songs have amazing quality.
Very simple, very clear, and very humble and composed reaction and speach, no over reaction, lies and fake tears like so many other Hollywood "so called celebrities", especially the female ones. He's the real boss 🤗👍💯💐🌺⚘️❣️
Thank you for posting this.
Well !! That's my BOSS
I cry evertime I hear that song... same with Neil youngs...
Same 😩
Cool!!!! Why didn't the post this when she died? This was so cool!!! R.I.P. Whitney!!!!
*BORN TO RUN!!!*
I would’ve loved to hear Whitney cover The Day I Fall in Love.
Great song, genius man. Totally deserved it!
Nope Neil Young should've won
100% deserved. Music doesnt often move me to the point of tears, but once I found out what this song was about and listened to the lyrics whilst Bruce was singing it on the radio I had tears falling down my cheeks. Such haunting lyrics, of someone who has faced their reality that no one is coming to save them and their end is near.
Neil Young deserved that award
@@judip609 So did Bruce.
"The Boss" winning an Oscar. What could be better?
omg i love him so much. jersey girl
I've never knew much about Bruce but he seems private I cried after watching this movie again when I watched it as a younger person it didn't hit me the way it did today, because it was a real story about many people who got AIDS and they knew what was going to happen to them once they had it and it broke my heart, really seems that THE MEDS THEY HAVE THESE DAYS IS HELPING PEOPLE LIVE LONGER AND HEARING BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SINGING IS WONDERFUL I KNOW TOM HANKS WON THE ACADEMY AWARD BUT DENZEL WASHINGTON WAS AWESOME IN THIS MOVIE A WONDERFUL MOVIE ALL AROUND
Nick Yarris brought me here! What's so special about the speech though
The Bruce Springfield documentary from 2019 should have been nominated for Best Documentary Feature
Nice try, Emilio. It's not on the list.
He should have won for The Wrestler, as well, but he wasn't even nominated!
Sometimes when songs like that dont get nominated its simply because of logistical reasons.
At least he won the Golden Globe for The Wrestler.
Neil Young composed a masterpiece for the movie "Philadelphia".
He should have won hands-down.
I'm glad that Bruce acknowledged him.
It was one of the most beautiful songs ever written so simple yet so poignant.
Here to appreciate a truly great song that deserves to win!
That is a pretty epic moment.
Una de las mejores canción de Bruce
Sin duda una de las mejores transmite mucho esa canción así no sepas inglés
Whitney knew that Neil Young should have won.
The Boss!
Neil Young's effort would have been my favorite. But both wonderful songs from the late and missed Demme's filmo.
They day I fall in love should've won!
She knew who was gonna, with that smile
Whitney looked high as a kite here.
I love Streets of Philadelphia, but Neil will forever be my winner here...
Awesome song, and Whitney is so beautiful, miss her voice
Whitney looks so beautiful
I think he composed the theme of Dead man Walking too.
2:15 All downhill from here, and then he gets a special Tony Award in 2018 🤣 He only needs an Emmy to complete his EGOT, which he might actually do once the Netflix special of his Broadway show premieres this December
He won a golden globe for the wrestler too. He's good with the human interest stories.
She was very high
I love the song went well with the movie which was a really good movie together it touch your heart
RIP Whitney Houston
I love Whitney 🖤
The mowie is still in my heart and tells a good story as well - Bruce never let you down with his music as well ....well deserved
Bruce Springsteen said in 1993 about movie music and industry: "I guess it's all down hill since here." Me in 2020: "Oh you have no f**** idea."
Like Mike Post who says about TV music starting with The Rockford Files: "It was a weird thing like I have no choice."
That's a lot of Tom Hanks movies for an award
Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen, two people who make me proud to be from the Garden State, let’s go Devils!!!!
People who are saying Neil Young should have won...come on. It's a good sounding song, but it's a little bit too doom and gloom. Springsteen's picks up the culture of Philadelphia, along with the sadness and hope of the movie. It is a much better song and deserved the win.
Doom and gloom? The song was about childhood memories. Even if it was about doom and gloom the film was about death and dying. Try to be less of a sociopath
Aprecio enormemente esta canción pero Neil Young también merecía ganar el Oscar 😭
Es obvio Young se lo merecía esto fue una injusticia
One of the Nightmare Before Christmas songs should be nominated.
Which song from The Nightmare Before Christmas would you have nominated?
This is Halloween. I think it should’ve won too.
To make matters worse, the film was Oscar nominated for best achievement in visual effects
in 1994.
No Whithey... the song was "Philadelphia" by Neil Young.
One of tge best original song Oscar winners ever and arguably the besf. Roger Ebert on his "If We Picked The Winners" show with Siskel even picked this song and for similar reasons I did.
That's how you pull of a black suit😎
She was awesome 👏
