Kylie's 1994 album is literally one of the best albums EVER. Confide in me, Put yourself in my place and Where is the feeling are some of Kylies finest singles. She's a living legend a absolute GODDESS ❤
After leaving her "pop machine" label, she went to an independent label with more edge, and this was her first foray into that. It revitalised her career, and gave her more credibility.
@TheRealHoltzy no-one cares about American success, Holtzy!!😂 there is a whole great big world out there with hundreds of other countries that Kylie is successful in. USA is not the benchmark 😂
Yes, this song was a pretty radical change when it came out. But then again people expected change when she left Stock Aitken Waterman. it still was a sizeable hit at the time. Definitely the biggest hit of the album. She also did some amazing live performances of this.
It was a big hit in russia, since that album was the first record officially released here. People definitely liked this darker version of Kylie. It reached number 2 in the UK, and topped the Australian chart. Was released in the US as a club track with some remixes but didn't do much there, even though it should have
I remember very clearly when this song came out. It totally propelled her into a new league. She’d proved herself as a serious dance artist with ‘What do I have to do’ and ‘Shocked’ but ‘Confide in me’ had a level of experimentation and risk that was unexpected. It really didn’t sound like anything on the radio at the time and made use of her vocal upper register in a way that we hadn’t heard. I remember at college even the alternative kids appreciated this track. Plus we all used to excitedly talk about which Kylie we wanted to be in the video…..lol I always loved blood splattered Kylie with the black catsuit and messy crimped hair…..just so damn cool.
This song is a masterpiece. After leaving the pop stable of Stock, Aitken and Waterman, that made her a star, Kylie wanted to stamp her independence and grow as an artist. And boy did she bring it to the table in spades 🙌🏼
Hi Empress, This is a classic Kylie song and video. It reached No2 in the UK it was her first release on her new record label at the time called Deconstruction. It at the time was so different for Kylie and her fans. The video was shot in 1994 inLos Angeles, California by Paul Boyd. It still looks as fresh today as it was back in the day. X
....Oh yeeeeesssss.... ***KYLIE TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...confide in this, lets get2iiiittttttttt....... - Kylie signed with Deconstruction Records and did a COMPLETE about-face, and worked with production team Brothers In Rhythm, who pushed her out of her 'Pop' element, and gave her mature, sensual, elegant and DANCE-ABLE production, to complement her 'Womanly' status, for her "Kylie Minogue." CD.... - this was the 1st single, and it SHOCKED everyone!! ...Kylie is seductively cooing her words, instead of singing, which was influenced by Madonna's "Justify My Love" period; Her looks in the Video showed she learned from Madonna's chameleon-like intuitiveness, for video characters.... - The 'Girls' Kylie's portraying in the Video are 'rrriot Girls', found mostly in Clubs / raves...there are slight dr-ug references, also, along with Japan 'call-Girl' commercial ads, with a James Bond vibe.... - ...Kylie was a WOMAN after this Video, and a revered figure for Dancefloors; The "Big Brother" 12" Club mix was drastically different from this Version, & U.S. audiences got the Phillip Damien Club remix, hot off his remix for Sade's "Pearls"..... ...VERY important tune in Kylie's ENTIRE career...peaked #2 UK Pop, nothing in the USA.....
Yep. One of my favourites of hers. First listen I loved it. I think you have mentioned before that there was a young "new to the world" Kylie that was just seeing if music would work for her as well as her acting career, then flash forward there is adult Kylie who has lived life and wanted to be unique and more creative. Beyond the neon colours of the video this song defo has an edge. One part sexy but another part critical and questioning - the needs of humans etc;
This song went to number 2 in the UK I think. We LOVE it. It was amazing. We danced and danced and danced in the clubs to this tune. Everyone flocked to the dance floor :)
Confide really showed off Kylie's vocal range and gained her respect from the punters, who prior to this, brushed her off as nothing but manufactured pop. If you can check out a live version of this from one of her many tours, you will be amazed at her control on such a difficult song. yet another one of the turning points in Kylie's multi-faceted career. A real gem!
This wasn't a massive departure from Kylie's late-PWL-era image-wise (See: Better the Devil You Know, What Do I Have to Do, Finer Feelings) - but musically, it absolutely showcased a different artist. Effortlessly cool, assured and confident in her ability as a vocalist and creative powerhouse. When most dismissed pop-singers would try to show off their range with vibrato & guitars & cred, Kylie stripped Confide In Me's vocal back to an ice cool still, removing all embellishment to shockingly potent effect. This song STILL gives me chills 30 years later.
This was a No.1 smash in Australia.. and sadly, it wasn't around the rest of the world.. Incredible song, and a turning point in her career when the industry started turning heads.
Great video! There are a few people reacting to her back catalogue right now and your videos are definitely the most upbeat with excellent insight and commentary Making us proud down undahhh! Thanks! Subscribed
From what I heard this was a huge shock for fans and even critics but in a good way. This really is what gave her credit for being a real artist because from the beginning up to that time she was seen sort of like a puppet that got lucky because she was on a successful TV show. I heard this track for the first time on a Greatest hits album called Hits + and I was shocked blown away and started to wonder why she had not been asked to sing a James Bond Theme song.
@@EmpressReacts the CD singles also had 2 b sides, one I’ve mentioned to you If You Don’t Love Me, she sounds amazing. I wish she was still being edgy like this but unfortunately the album didn’t do that well and she went back to Kylie by numbers which the public like
Back then it wasn't the smash hit they hoped due to the drastic change for her. But now it is considered as one of THE Kylie classics and most signature songs. She loves it and keeps performing it to date. As time passed it even become more significant and more respected than some of her other more commercially succesful singles. It's more recognized by the general public than many of her other more succesful songs.
The first time I heard this song was 1997. It came on tv and I loved it immediately. I knew Kylie then only from the Locomotion (big hit years before), as a kind of cheesy pop singer. But this was amazing, so I looked her up online and found out about this album, which I ordered, the one with the French version of Confide in Me on it. This was the first single of the 1994 album, and some critics didn't believe she really hit that note at the end haha. But she sings this live perfectly. I played the song on the piano a lot later on for fun. Beautiful melody. Her 1997-1998 follow up album is also amazing, both were released on a small independent label and are kind of unique in her discography as being very original, unconventional records.
hey! did you know that the melody in the intro and choruses is taken from Jane's It's a Fine Day written by Edward Barton? Just a fun fact, realized it recently when played both songs on the piano :)
At first this song was a bit of a surprise and a shock and I didn't know what to think about it, but soon it grew on me and I started to appriciate and like it.
That song and video absolutely blew my mind. The new bold and edgy Kylie arrived and I was all here for that.It was so refreshing and exciting. For me this is one of the best songs from the 90s and is still my favorite song of all time!
I’m not sure but I think this is one of Kylie‘s best records. I purchased the cd in the early to mid-1990s in Germany and this song always stood out to me. Hi, Empress!
In Feb 991, Kylie came to the Perth Entertainment Centre on her 'Rhythm of Love' / 'Let's get to it' national tour. It wasn't cool to like Kylie back then ('cos of her baby pop image and simple pop songs) but we still went and had a great time at the concert. By 1994, things had changed dramatically. Kylie had grown up and us fans, too. This new sound and video had us all enchanted 🤩 A few months later, the second single: 'Put yourself in my place' consolidated her new chapter. Strong vocals, another new look in the video.... 'Confide in me' even had a digeridoo added to the musical arrangement!
By far this and the follow up album Impossible Princess were her career highlights… so many standout tracks that still sound so incredibly fresh today. I saw her tour these two albums and it was pure class. You could definitely tell she was much happier with her sound. I would love her to do something similar again.
for me IP aged not very bad. It's experimental because it stands out in her discography, but not particularly good album especially comparing to other indie-records from the 90s
I remember when this song came out it caught the attention of all the people who had written her off as a bubblegum pop act and anyone who just hadn't paid her much attention prior to that. Serious musos came on board at this point as fans!
I recommend you follow this up with a live performance of it, she has performed it on almost every tour since, it was missing from X2008, but I would recommend reacting to this at the For You, For Me Tour, in New York, the vocals are something else
The first version I heard of this song was the "Big Brothers Mix" on Pete Tong and it blew my mind. Absolutely stunning house banger. Then when I heard this "Master Mix" I was uber impressed and bought the CD singles the day they came out (when I was supposed to be in school!). All mixes sound awesome still, 28 years later and this made a lot of people take notice of her and gave her the "Club" credibility she'd wanted the previous few years. A classic to this day.
We were all gagged when this came out. That whole album is a masterpiece and we used to have it on repeat in the restaurant I worked in at the time. Never get bored of hearing it. That ending is everything. The dance remix set the clubs on fire too. It is incredible. Good old days of CD1 & CD2 Remixes. 🤗
OMG I have sooooo much to say about this song. Kylie’s first 4 albums were written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman with some co writing credits by Kylie. on some tracks on the 3rd album and most tracks on the fourth album. She has signed a new deal with record company Deconstruction who allowed her the time to find her creative direction and make the record she wanted to make. When this song was released it went to number one in Australia and was a huge huge hit. It was critically acclaimed as a great piece of art by a pop artist. This was the record that helped Australia take Kylie more seriously. Her vocals on this track are incredible. It’s so original and different. There is still nothing that’s been released that sounds like this. She has performed this song on almost every tour since it’s been released and is recognised as an important song in her career. Love that you love it Empress.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I’ve been waiting for THIS Kylie to drop for you! Love how you played along with the touch the screen concept ✋ Phone sex and phone counseling lines, along with dating, horoscopes, psychics and just about anything else that could be delivered by a human voice, were super popular in the 90s. By the end of that decade the internet had begun replacing them, but late night TV was always a parade of home shopping and phone lines. This video evokes, and elevates, this perfectly. She’d made forays into more sophisticated styling already, but this was the moment when the music more than matched that sophistication. Ultra chic Kylie on an indie label, doing it deep cool 90s and stunning us all. Her vocals! The strings! Definitely one of the finest pop songs of the era, and the video compliments its darkly sexy tone perfectly. The various moods of Kylie shown, from coy to vampy to militant, are fun too. That multiple personality theme will pop up again in her videos. Once this song dropped, and her critics picked their jaws off the floor, they finally began to treat Kylie like the world class talent she is.
You know I had too! 😂And interesting, so this was an Indie Label project, Kylie got respect from critics...so the buying public must wasn't ready for this?
@@EmpressReacts Confide in me was a MASSIVE hit for Kylie. It spent 4 weeks at number 1 in Australia and over 2 months in the top 10 here. It was also a big UK hit and a smash all across Europe. The US market remained largely ignorant of her brilliance but Confide was THE pivotal moment when Kylie left all doubt behind her and became a key pop artist on the world stage. The world is still a very big place even without the US market. People had been enjoying the ride with her but expecting it would probably fizzle at some point, but this moment cemented her as an artist with longevity. A brand that connoted all the cheekiness and fun she’d had, but now also meant edge, chic and next level stylistic glamour.
@@EmpressReacts Not strictly the case. Her indie label output wasn’t as big album sales wise, so yes she did return to big label pop stuff with massive success, but the edge she’d established in the mid 90s remained strong. And there were definitely hits from her indie era, including this and her ultra dark Nick Cave collab Where The Wild Roses Grow 🌹🪨 When she returned to pop she had a much wider and more open minded audience than she’d had before, thanks to this indie period, and crucially she finally had the critics on board.
This was the lead single from that '94 album. The '98 album can also be considered Kylie 'The Artist". I like this song a lot, but I don't think the video goes with it at all. I always thought it deserved a darker video... maybe black and white. She really shines when she performs this song live. She's able to hold those long high notes really well.
This track was such a shock (in a good way) at the time. It was Kylie's first release after leaving Stock Aitken Waterman, the producers who wrote and produced most of her first 4 albums (and who produced Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' and Bananarama's 'Venus', among others). No-one expected Kylie to come back looking and sounding like THIS. I read that Kylie had a new song out called 'Confide In Me', and when I first heard it on the radio, it took about a minute before it clicked that it was actually HER. It sounded SO different to anything she had done before. And then when I saw the video, it was another big shock. It's a pity Kylie didn't stick with this edgier sound/look longer term. 'Confide In Me' was also Kylie's first number 1 single in Australia in 6 years. She had lost a lot of her early popularity by 1992, but when 'Confide In Me' was released in 1994, it was like she suddenly became cool. I, like many others, kind of expected Kylie to fade away/stop having hits after leaving Stock Aitken Waterman, but this proved everyone wrong.
@@EmpressReacts Her music was not perceived as being credible at all, with nearly all of it, prior to 'Confide In Me', being written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, who produced for many successful pop artists from the 80s. She still had OK success on the charts, but she had no musical credibility. Then 'Confide...' happened.
Hello lady, the first time I saw this music video with this sound, I slept at night, it was in my ear until morning and I could not get it out in my mind at all because it was very beautiful and I was hypnotic. If you are a confused officer, call and this 😁
There was a big build up for this song and the Kylie Minogue album. In New zealand there were posters all around the city advertising it. The billboards were just a close up of Kylie’s eyes and the release date.
i Love Love her poppy yet mature stuff like get outta my way and all the lovers but damn, this song is so cool, sexy, hypnotic, and artful. it might be her best song....
I was stunned when I heard this single ten years ago. It seems like Kylie’s best stuff is often released overseas. Also check out spinning around, it’s a year before her big chart run in the us. It was introduced very oddly to the public.
Kylie's 1994 album is literally one of the best albums EVER. Confide in me, Put yourself in my place and Where is the feeling are some of Kylies finest singles. She's a living legend a absolute GODDESS ❤

Interesting
After leaving her "pop machine" label, she went to an independent label with more edge, and this was her first foray into that. It revitalised her career, and gave her more credibility.

@@petersavieri Interesting ‼️Kylie is becoming more fascinating than I thought she would be🤔
If youre enjoying darker edgy Kylie i highly recommend the song Where The Wild Roses Grow with Nick Cave, amazing song.
Noted
Why had she become uncool in AUS?
@@EmpressReacts Her music was not perceived as being credible at all, with nearly all of it, prior to 'Confide In Me', being written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, who produced for many successful pop artists from the 80s. She still had OK success on the charts, but she had no musical credibility. Then 'Confide...' happened.
Surely Kylie has risen from Princess to Queen by now?.
Most definitely
Hello lady, the first time I saw this music video with this sound, I slept at night, it was in my ear until morning and I could not get it out in my mind at all because it was very beautiful and I was hypnotic. If you are a confused officer, call and this 😁
😂
There was a big build up for this song and the Kylie Minogue album. In New zealand there were posters all around the city advertising it. The billboards were just a close up of Kylie’s eyes and the release date.
i Love Love her poppy yet mature stuff like get outta my way and all the lovers but damn, this song is so cool, sexy, hypnotic, and artful. it might be her best song....
💯💯
her best song, it's also THE moment when she started to be more free and sexy 🥰
That's the mentalist beat ever
I was stunned when I heard this single ten years ago. It seems like Kylie’s best stuff is often released overseas. Also check out spinning around, it’s a year before her big chart run in the us. It was introduced very oddly to the public.
Will do
@@EmpressReacts Have a good one!
It's a great song and big change of style for Kylie. There's a Prince influence on this track.
i didn't catch it! have to give it another listen!
I love her 2 albums under this label. Her music had more depth. The strings on this track
Interesting ‼️
BIG CLASSIC / UNIQUE / KYLIE MINOGUE * THE ICON / BIG RESPECT / OLD SCHOOL REPRESENT / F*CK NEW SKOOL
Also alot of us in America arent too familiar with a lot of her stuff! Disco should have been promoted better.
💯💯
I discovered the darker side of love and sex the same time as Kylie 😂
😂
What does the second picture on the top look like when she walks on at the beginning? Maybe I’m just a dirty mind 😂
Hi empress can you ad this song to the Kylie playlist It took me a while to find this reaction
will do!
@@EmpressReacts thanks I like watching your Kylie reactions again when I can’t sleep 😂
