A Kevin masterpiece...this piece has the feel of the Hudson River and many masters of the 17-1800s. Brilliant play with value planes...contrast..and light..with the glow in the midground land ...on the mountain tops...wonderful piece Kevin..
Kevin, there are a lot of fantastic artist in this world, with many different awesome techniques, but your paintings make me want to go there and just sit and enjoy the environment. GBY
Of all the internet instructors, I sure like your scene concepts best. Everybody paints a landscape or seascape, but you create a world that makes the audience say, 'I want to go there.' Well done.
I love how you try to keep it as simple as possible,red,blue,green etc. Students shouldn't try to copy your painting exactly but learn the tricks and tips and make it there own...similiar but totally different.

I know I sound naive but, I find that the level of your talent belies how few years you have behind you.
I think it's so impressive that to reach an end product, the appearance of each piece when half finished looks like a mess. Yet, you know, as do other superlative artists, that in order to reach a finished piece, a bit of chaos needs to be waded through and organized.

You must be thrilled to know that you'll be able to make a very nice living performing your passion.

Paint in another artist sitting in a chair behind his easel, on that nice grassy field down by the river, painting the same picture you just painted..
Your mountains and rocks have awesome details in them. The colors and shapes are incredibly real looking. Do you use an airbrush to get the mist in front of your background mountains?? If not! How do you blend in the mist without loosing the mountains??
Or do you let it dry before blending in the mist??

+molly martin hi..you cannot paint acrylic or gesso on top of oils..however...oils can be painted on top of gesso...and acrylics...if you refer to Kevin's ( paint along series) the one of the stars at night...this will give you an idea to procede...gesso and acrylic for the black background is not needed...hope this helps..
