To be honest, Amtrak should’ve done that along time ago with the Northeast corridor, replacing the fleet cars for the Midwest and short haul corridor services outside the northeast corridor, the sister cars that are used on the long distance trace are sufficient enough for the same services that they currently operate on. Although I’ve seen a few of those long-distance track cars on short haul trains around the Chicago area in the last few days. I can only imagine what California would look like if they had those electric cars that Caltrain has now

Much quieter with these trains. I wish we had them here in the Northeast.

Indian railways has already installed electrification on over 60,000 kilometers of mainline rail. In just two years all mainline trains in India will be electric powered. The US could and indeed should have done this decades ago. If India can solve this problem just 75 years after the British empire completely destroyed and bankrupted their country why the hell can't the US and Canada do it? Having just 1% of American mainline railroads electrified is a national embarrassment. When the next oil shock comes most American railroads will be in big trouble. Septa and Indian railways will keep right on rolling like nothing happened because they took care of their business before it was too late.

idk either we stupid or the government dont give the railroad money cause we addicted to cars (im not tho i hate cars)

@goofyahhnerdyy the biggest problem is that the railroads in America and Canada are privately owned. In most countries, the national government owns a 100% stake in all railroads on its territory. While state owned enterprises aren't the right answer for every industry in the case of railroads, it is absolutely the best option. But even without a nationalized railroad, I still think we should solve this problem. Big oil killed a plan to electrify 1/3 of the American railroad network in 1975 after the 1973 oil crisis. The next oil crisis will probably be far worse than the one in 1973. Indian railways is ready for it. The American railroads will be devastated. Sometimes, people refuse to learn anything anyway other than the hard way. We're all going to pay for the arrogance and stupidity of the railroad CEOs, unfortunately. They have spent so much time bending over backward for big oil. I don't think they even know how to stand up straight anymore.

Most of the mainlines are privately operated and have little money to spend that’s spared off unless they compromised.

It's simple, freight companies own most of the rails on the US and Canada.

I like those electronic displays a lot better as opposed to the number boards on the side on the locomotive and cab car that display L5or L6 or B7
