But genesong is literally combining the words genesis and song together which makes sense in Halo 4 with DNA it's just the pronunciation is wrong in game.
Yes, it looks fantastic. I always thought it was weird that 343 decided to use a barrel design that was traditionally used for covenant weapons that fire physical projectiles on a Plasma weapon. Looks just as out of place on the Pulse Carbine too.
Honestly what bugged me about the h4 design even more than it not being the classic plasma rifle is just how much it looked like a the carbine. Long barrel, same color, similar shape. Ye had to always get close to find out which it was.

Which this mod addresses too, it combines the accuracy of the CE Plasma Rifle with the base rate of fire of the Repeater. Makes it really feel like it's own weapon, and it's great. That's one area 343 struggles with when they design weapons. If they replace something they often fail to come up with something worth replacing it with. Take the Needle Rifle for example, it replaced the Carbine but super combines were a very unique function for precision weapons so it was a welcome change. Infinite replaced the Carbine with the Commando, which has an automatic trigger. Wow, what a unique and interesting new weapon... It's not like the Needle Rifle already did that or anything. 🙄

One thing that was much appreciated in this mod is that the balancing on higher difficulties has been much improved. Halo 4 is one of my favourite campaigns alongside 2 and Reach. But like 2 and Reach, It has some busted difficulty scaling. This mod fixes a lot of that. One particularly appreciated detail is that it does not appear that knights have regenerating shields. Once you pop their shields, They don't come back. Which makes them much less annoying when they teleport away.
The Knights still regenerate, just much slower now which is welcome. Other than that though the enemies weren't really nerfed or buffed. The stronger forerunner weapons probably added to the game feeling easier, but the whole game is still just as hard as vanilla H4, which by that means it's still easy as hell, even on legendary.
in fact sometimes the mod actually makes the experience more rage inducing. Why the modder felt the need to make banshees weaker than they already were is a wonder, not to mention just how slow they made the banshee turrets, which lead to a lot of frustration on my end.

The only thing I would, have done differently with this mod that I can immediately think of is hold off on giving Chief the Gen 2 Mjolnir until the epilogue cutscene. Set up Halo 5 that way, and keep the better looking armor. Plus, I'm convinced that the resources and time needed to make the new suit were not things that Chief and Cortana were willing to wait for, with the Didact loose and all.

The DMR removal was unnecessary, but to be fair the DMR itself was unnecessary in a game with 3 other precision rifles.
Same. In my opinion, at least if you're going to change the aesthetic within the same continuity, try to transition between them logically. I found the problem with Halo 4 is the changes they made seemingly for no reason at all.
I'm one of the very-few "Halo 4 purists" that probably exist, and I'll freely admit there's some changes with this mod that I don't like for various reasons, but the important thing is that it's really cool this mod can exist _alongside_ the original Halo 4. All these different interpretations, with the artistic intent that went into them, can exist at the same time. I think in almost every situation, that co-existence _strengthens_ both interpretations. I just wish more people took the time to try and see that from both angles.

I love the look of this, my only gripe is that I actually did like the way that the cartridges reloaded into the promethean guns, where the gun partially disassembled or opened up to reveal the spot where you insert what is basically just part or the gun, it felt so cool and fitting for something so advanced
@@RasputinNotPutin I just like the feel, also my internet's being weird so if I sent like 5 of the same reply that's why, but basically to me the engineering feels more sound and I just like it more (and it feels faster to me)
I also really want to explain the engineering because I find it kinda interesting to think about, so I'll just try that now and hope my attempted posts don't end up sending all at once afterwards basically, I think it's easier to make battery packs for a weapon with advanced air-vent cooling because the only alternative that would make what's shown with this version plausible is storing a generator in the gun, and I doubt it's cheap or efficient to store extremely compact near-limitless non-fuel-requiring generators in guns that small, even then, you still need to pick up ammo, and that could only be two things: fuel or coolant, and both of those would still be best transported in cartridges. On top of that, it's much more efficient to vent while the gun is open to put the ammo into the gun, rather than make the venting process completely separate. Basically, if you take a good look at the engineering, it works best, and even through a tactical perspective: would you rather sit in a corner waiting for your weapon to vent, or swap a cartridge and keep shooting? alright, text wall over, have a nice night
@@pileoweirdness "doubt it's cheap and efficient." You're trying to apply some basic level economical insight into equipment depicted as advanced technology that humans haven't developed. Lol. Open your mind more.
For something that fires hard light, it should recharge with solar power, or if held next to all the fancy Tron lights the Prometheans keep on using. It's the same problem as Mass Effect 2--why am I suddenly using ammo? Oh, those are heat sinks! Why don't we have some of the weapons we were using a couple of years ago, then? Oh, uh...your ship was...WHAT ABOUT THE ENEMIES? Just have the gun recharge ammo, and have it unfold from a ball or cube or something.
I think it would be cool to see bungie warthogs ported into these mods you can acquire from the dawns crash, and then later the 343 warthogs are introduced with the infinity crash landing
This mod is fantastic. My only minus with this is the nerfing of how many bullets are in each mag in the Saw and how the sound design of it was changed.
Outside of the DMR removal, this mods sounds really good. Now if only they could combine it with my favorite mod of allowing you to wear the multiplayer Spartan armor, it would be as close to my headcanon version of the game where the Spartan IV that you play in Spartan Ops was sent as a Lonewolf or a Headhunter to find the Master Chief after the events of Halo 3 with a different AI other than Cortana if you ignore the dialogue and squint a little.
Only change is while on the dawn you only see classic halo 3 weapons. Like in that other mod. It would literally make this perfect. I actually love this mod! It was really well done and makes halo 4 feel like a real halo game
I always thought this is how it should have gone, but even more leaning into the Halo 3 styling of the armor. Not to a comical copy/paste degree; we wouldn't want chief looking out of place, but to enough of an extent so that when he meets the Spartan IVs, there's a stark difference between him and them. Making it even more stunning when he dons the new armor.
For what it's worth, 343 did _try_ to have a stark difference between the two already. Chief's big, bulky, and tanky with a drab olive-green color while the IVs are smaller, sleeker, and with a less wartime-militaristic color scheme.
I would have loved for 343i to go back and activate development in MCC. Updated graphics, balanced campaigns, etc. Alas, it is but a dream. I shall go with these mods to refresh my Halo experience.
Such a nice vision from soi, classic but still in line with 343's halo 4 just improved in my opinion, the use of the mark vi from the multiplayer goes hard with the uncompressed textures. And just as a side note, the battle rifle is a mesh of halo 4's with custom parts like the scope and barrel, not the H2A, also i think the scorpion main canon is from the H2A scorpion but it could be just the textures really showing up. Nice review from a very interesting mod
Halo 4 always felt like 343 was pushing too hard to introduce their vision, taking away all that was stablished to differentiate themselves from Bungie. This mod captures that nicely without sacrificing the identity of the game, although I’m a huge fan of mods using previous assets on early campaign levels.
I personally still prefer the retail version of the game to this mod for the most part, but I won't deny just how incredible of a mod this is and just how much effort was put into creating it.
it's mods like this that makes me wish we had more control over which aspects we'd like top add to the game overallwhen downloading stuff, like in GMOd (or I guess more accurately fallout) where you can have 6 or 7 different mods affecting the same thing at one time, I know that it's because of how the game is built up, But while I like the model changes for the NPC's/Players, and the sound stuff, I don't really care for the change to the storm rifle. I want my damn DMR, But I do like having a plasma launcher.
I feel like people only hate chiefs armour because of the fact we get it the way we do, if this was the way he got it, it’d have made sense, imo this chief suit is the best looking by far
fkin finally, it only made sense this way. honestly wouldve made chief even more bad ass tho if they gave chief a whole medical check as well. he's got untreated wounds from halo 3 and an insanely large burn wound on the chest because of spark and maybe some other internal damage from falling from space. I like the idea that chief, wasn't running on 100% in halo 3 the whole time and he just kept saying "Green" when asked if he's good.
I honestly didn't realize how massive the texture change alone would be. I always thought halo 4 looked bad, like it was trying to cram a next gen game into the halo 3 engine and thus looked deep fried to shit, but seeing that weird repeated ground texture replaced with something cleaner does wonders for that. Although I still wonder about the contrast, some dark spots seem too dark
It's amazing how a different sounds and a couple lights make the H4 magnum so much better. H4's magnum always looked and felt like such dogshit even though by all accounts it was one of the better magnums in the series at the time
The only gripe I have is with the Promethean weapon reloads. Watching them and hearing them collapse and align was very satisfying. Especially the Suppressor. Wish they opened up to "recharge" like the did when you would reload over just holding the weapon on it's side.
The only problem I have with this middle ground of having Chief change to the 343 style of armor once he boards the Infinity is that it takes away from the ending cutscene where he takes off his armor for the first time in years. It’s just not as impactful if it turns out he had already taken off his armor in a mission prior to that moment. Nonetheless, this is still a cool mod.
If 343 did this, H4 would have been more widely accepted. His H4 and 5 armor are without a doubt the coolest and most iconic armor next to his Infinite design.
They should try and make the ship in the desert level more dynamic. Have it fly around with the objective being to damage it enough to make it stop at the point where it lowers its lift.
You know what I'd love? I would love it if weapon and weapon animations mods were stand-alone. Armor change mods were stand-alone as well. The next thing I would love was if Forward Unto Dawn had Halo 2 anniversary weapons and then leave the rest alone. Can someone please make a mod replacing Halo 4s battle rifle with Halo 5s battle rifle classic scope model. Another thing I would like is to have Halo 2 anniversary multiplayer elites replace the elites in Halo 4 and color code them like in the original trilogy. I don't care for 343s artstyle, but I think using their best assets would make "their game" look so much better.
I prefer the old storm rifle design. Its one of the few design changes in Halo 4 which i felt twisted the desogn language just a little bit. I loved everything about it.
For the most part, I feel like this is what H4 should have been however I did enjoy the original H4 Warthog audio more than any other Halo, and as someone with Disabilities the removal of the DMR hurts my gameplay experience as burst fire just ends up wasting half of the ammo and don't even get me started on how long-range scopes like snipers use screws with my depth perception
If they ever do a Halo 4 anniversary (AFTER a Halo 3 anniversary..) Many things in this mod should be transferred over for sure. To make Halo 4 how it always should have been. in regards to the storm rifle, I like it a lot better as I hate the retail version but the Halo reach version of the regular old plasma rifle should be alongside it still. (Scratch the revenant completely, just make it a storm variant of the Spectre with that turret gun in back.) Edit: some more key things needing to add, Halo 4 hunter assault beam needs the hiss sound, the scorpion and wraith still need a lot of help the sound firing them in itself sucks, the over arcing of the projectiles needs to be streamlined...That pelican isn't really a pelican and should be renamed the "new and improved, infinity variant of Condor." but probably most importantly above all, we need BLOOD ! lots of it.
People need people to stop hating on the DMR in Halo 4. It was the superior weapon for the skilled players with better aim. More powerful than the BR and thus more rewarding for great accuracy.
No, you need to start comprehending what's being said. He says "in this mod" multiple times. In this mod given the adjusted weapon sandbox, the DMR is not needed.
@@CharlesJ-uu5dg that's the excuse everyone gives who doesn't like the DMR and looks for a reason to remove it in their mods. It could have been modified to work different but similar, just like they did for every other weapon.
@johnjoe69 it's not at all my favorite weapon, but I don't hate it either. I will admit that the dmr in this game was pretty good. I prefer Reach's version
@@jhnyjoejoe69 Boy, need it repeated to you? Given that it's my favorite UNSC weapon in Halo 4, if yiu actually play this mod, you'll see the BR has a tighter spread and longer range making the dmr useless.
I'm an OG Halo fan, grew up with the Bungie games, played them all the time with my father and cousin. (Being the internet I apparently have to point that out to be a "real fan") Yet, I still loved Halo 4 when it came out. One of the best Halo stories and I enjoyed the gameplay, sprint as a main stay, and the art direction. To me, it still felt like Halo. I think it was waaaay over hated. And the resulting damage control was an over correction from 343, they canceled Spartan Ops instead of trying to improve for a season 2, not adding any further content, killing off Didact in a comic and killing Jul M'dama in a cutscene during the first mission of Halo 5, etc. (Ironically, even with those course corrections, Halo 5 deserved most of the criticism, especially with the false advertising if you followed Hunt The Truth...) So as a fan of Halo 4, I do appreciate at the end, where the guy said this is more of a director's cut, rather than reverting it to Bungie era. (Seeing as many fans seem to want exactly that, reskins of Halo 3 with nothing new)
There are a few things I loved from Halo 4’s design. For one, I love the design of the Plasma Pistol, Needler, the Ghost, Wraith and the Scorpion. I think they are the best designs of the series. Versus the fat designs we got in 5 and infinite.
Halo 4's narrative and Campaign are one of the few things 343 brought to Halo that were generally good. Yet, as this mod shows, still room for improvement.
I remember cortana saying something like "I used some hardlight to change around your suit" or something like that..but I always wished that while you were in the forward unto dawn you had older stuff like the older variants of the br or ar and then as you progress through the game you see the unscs 'upgrades'
If only we could cut the librarian and redesign the forerunner stuff (ahem make forerunners human, Prometheans more boxy, less organic.) - the lore dump legit breaks halo. Forcing halo 4 into a better sandbox state + actually making the armour swap make sense (pre rendered cutscenes where they cut the MK4 armour they had concept art, probably prototyped as a multiplayer set and CUT IT withstanding....
The changes to covenant, promethians, and gun sounds make this super cool! There were some guns i didn't like using because the sounds were just annoying to me. Like the battle rifle has such a high screech metal sound to it, as opposed to the classic sound in 2 or 3. Good stuff, man! 😁👍🏻 I like the explanation for chief's armor. It always bothered me that he just randomly had the new set. 😅
Should’ve pulled a page out of halo 4 mythic overhaul mod and either use a remade model of chiefs halo 3 armor or just use the halo 3 armor that way it looks one to one rather it being the Gen 2 Mark VI armor from the multiplayer

alright, text wall over, have a nice night
@@pileoweirdness "doubt it's cheap and efficient."
You're trying to apply some basic level economical insight into equipment depicted as advanced technology that humans haven't developed.
Those spiked grunt armors are so cool. Def trying this mod
missed opportunity to make the scattershot act like a double barrel shotgun
halo 4 overhaul for people who enjoyed halo 4 vanilla
I think it would be cool to see bungie warthogs ported into these mods you can acquire from the dawns crash, and then later the 343 warthogs are introduced with the infinity crash landing
I’m a late halo fan (grew up with halo 4 and Red vs Blue) so seeing this is pretty cool
Hol up I need to hear and learn more about this head cannon cause I’m interested
Absolutely love the different colors on the forerunner weapons
What would make the storm rifle even better is giving it the option to manually vent just like the plasma repeater from Halo reach
Yo, these mods are getting better and better. 😁
Also, Happy Valentines Day. 😌
They do keep getting better!
Take notes 343. Seriously this was well done. 👏🏻😄🎮 This definitely would have been a good transition for the story.
Only change is while on the dawn you only see classic halo 3 weapons. Like in that other mod. It would literally make this perfect. I actually love this mod! It was really well done and makes halo 4 feel like a real halo game
Always love your reviews of the details modders put into their work!
magnum and br sfx change just sound like an individual SAW shot
I always thought this is how it should have gone, but even more leaning into the Halo 3 styling of the armor. Not to a comical copy/paste degree; we wouldn't want chief looking out of place, but to enough of an extent so that when he meets the Spartan IVs, there's a stark difference between him and them.
Making it even more stunning when he dons the new armor.
For what it's worth, 343 did _try_ to have a stark difference between the two already. Chief's big, bulky, and tanky with a drab olive-green color while the IVs are smaller, sleeker, and with a less wartime-militaristic color scheme.
This makes me want to actually go play halo 4 again. That’s honestly a feat in itself
I enjoy halo 4 for what it is, i do think this mod makes it better and more improved
Halo 4 always felt like 343 was pushing too hard to introduce their vision, taking away all that was stablished to differentiate themselves from Bungie.
This mod captures that nicely without sacrificing the identity of the game, although I’m a huge fan of mods using previous assets on early campaign levels.
This mod makes me miss the Promethean weapons ngl
I like halo 4 artstyle and reach artstyle they are both my favorite. I wish they could smash together to become one
Finally some good f asmr
Mods should utilize the SPV3 needler reload animation with how awesome it is.
I personally still prefer the retail version of the game to this mod for the most part, but I won't deny just how incredible of a mod this is and just how much effort was put into creating it.
Modder: Effort through passion
343: NANOMACHINES, SON
"As durable as a Toyota"
That alone deserves a sub. Thanks for the mod
it's mods like this that makes me wish we had more control over which aspects we'd like top add to the game overallwhen downloading stuff, like in GMOd (or I guess more accurately fallout) where you can have 6 or 7 different mods affecting the same thing at one time, I know that it's because of how the game is built up, But while I like the model changes for the NPC's/Players, and the sound stuff, I don't really care for the change to the storm rifle. I want my damn DMR, But I do like having a plasma launcher.
i always felt the Halo 2 BR but with select Fire would remove the need for DMR. but Halo Reach DMR was allot of fun.
"Halo 4 might not be your favorite Halo of the series"
Are you sure about that?
I feel like people only hate chiefs armour because of the fact we get it the way we do, if this was the way he got it, it’d have made sense, imo this chief suit is the best looking by far
fkin finally, it only made sense this way.
honestly wouldve made chief even more bad ass tho if they gave chief a whole medical check as well. he's got untreated wounds from halo 3 and an insanely large burn wound on the chest because of spark and maybe some other internal damage from falling from space. I like the idea that chief, wasn't running on 100% in halo 3 the whole time and he just kept saying "Green" when asked if he's good.
been asking for this for years
Beautiful
We stan for lore here
Just FYI, Genesong is pronounced as gene(as in genes) + song. Not genne-song. Mod looks great tho.
Thanks, and the mod is fantastic!
H4's magnum always looked and felt like such dogshit even though by all accounts it was one of the better magnums in the series at the time
I hope in a future version they somehow work in Marty's music too.
Davidge's OST is just so damn good though. Fits 4 perfectly.
incredible
Should of just made it where the game gave you an option, where Cortana gives Chief the choice if he wants to keep his armor or change it.
The only gripe I have is with the Promethean weapon reloads.
Watching them and hearing them collapse and align was very satisfying. Especially the Suppressor.
Wish they opened up to "recharge" like the did when you would reload over just holding the weapon on it's side.
This is like the only mod I will ever use.
Now I just wait till someone add in the Halo Infinite Chief Armor into the cutscenes.
If 343 did this, H4 would have been more widely accepted. His H4 and 5 armor are without a doubt the coolest and most iconic armor next to his Infinite design.
In your opinion.
They should try and make the ship in the desert level more dynamic. Have it fly around with the objective being to damage it enough to make it stop at the point where it lowers its lift.
The storm rifle is now a plasma repeater
I LOVE that they removed the gearshift from the Warthog’s engine sound, since they canonically have a CVT that does not do any gear shifts.
Buffing energy weapons? That's something than 343i, neither the fans can't do, like, the only energy weapon they known is the energy sword
If they ever do a Halo 4 anniversary (AFTER a Halo 3 anniversary..)
Many things in this mod should be transferred over for sure. To make Halo 4 how it always should have been.
in regards to the storm rifle, I like it a lot better as I hate the retail version but the Halo reach version of the regular old plasma rifle should be alongside it still. (Scratch the revenant completely, just make it a storm variant of the Spectre with that turret gun in back.)
Edit: some more key things needing to add, Halo 4 hunter assault beam needs the hiss sound, the scorpion and wraith still need a lot of help the sound firing them in itself sucks, the over arcing of the projectiles needs to be streamlined...That pelican isn't really a pelican and should be renamed the "new and improved, infinity variant of Condor." but probably most importantly above all, we need BLOOD ! lots of it.
NGL, had H4 been like so by retail I wouldn't have disliked it so much
Oh my god that new storm rifle is BRILLIANT
People need people to stop hating on the DMR in Halo 4. It was the superior weapon for the skilled players with better aim. More powerful than the BR and thus more rewarding for great accuracy.
No, you need to start comprehending what's being said.
He says "in this mod" multiple times.
In this mod given the adjusted weapon sandbox, the DMR is not needed.
@@CharlesJ-uu5dg that's the excuse everyone gives who doesn't like the DMR and looks for a reason to remove it in their mods. It could have been modified to work different but similar, just like they did for every other weapon.
DMR was my favorite weapon in this game.
@johnjoe69 it's not at all my favorite weapon, but I don't hate it either. I will admit that the dmr in this game was pretty good. I prefer Reach's version
@@jhnyjoejoe69 Boy, need it repeated to you?
Given that it's my favorite UNSC weapon in Halo 4, if yiu actually play this mod, you'll see the BR has a tighter spread and longer range making the dmr useless.
dats what I'm talkin about
I'm a little sad they removed the DMR, but I understand.
Actually I believe the new battle rifle sound is actually the ambience sound you hear players shooting at you. That's just me 🤓
HOLY CRAP I CAN FINALLY PLAY HALO 4 😭😭
I don’t really like how loud the gold is on the structures. 14:50
They could be made a more bronze gold rather than the very yellow one.
Are the marines redesigned or do they still have the nerf-foam looking armor?
I'm an OG Halo fan, grew up with the Bungie games, played them all the time with my father and cousin.
(Being the internet I apparently have to point that out to be a "real fan")
Yet, I still loved Halo 4 when it came out.
(Ironically, even with those course corrections, Halo 5 deserved most of the criticism, especially with the false advertising if you followed Hunt The Truth...)
So as a fan of Halo 4, I do appreciate at the end, where the guy said this is more of a director's cut, rather than reverting it to Bungie era.
(Seeing as many fans seem to want exactly that, reskins of Halo 3 with nothing new)
343 really should have handled the armor change in a similar way Atleast
There are a few things I loved from Halo 4’s design. For one, I love the design of the Plasma Pistol, Needler, the Ghost, Wraith and the Scorpion. I think they are the best designs of the series. Versus the fat designs we got in 5 and infinite.
16:33 I would like it if they could make tools like this keep the 3rd person view.
The magnum sounds like the halo tv s2 sound.
Which isn't a bad thing.
I'm getting a PC just to play this Halo 4 mod and the Halo / Battlefront II crossover mod. This is not an exaggeration
We have Halo 4 Reflow, and now this!
