The change to the canal has really worked. I could see myself living in the house on the hill, looking over the canal down the length of the station, watching the comings and goings. Superb.
Morning, when I get up in morning, it's so nice to wake up to a relaxing moment in time, those canal boats look fantastic, and the canal, so much so that I think we (me and two of my grandchildren) will need to do some alterations to out little layout. Lewis your inspiring thanks for all you do and share, look after yourself Eddy xx
As always Lewis this is awesome I have said it before and will continue to say that you are my go too guy for anything model railway related. Regards Tom
I am so sad I missed this, but at work. It is so rare you are live, even as a premiere, it would have been cool. ANyhow, great stuff as always; such brilliant work! Cheers!
Thank you . Its been a pleasure to watch, and to hear relaxing music during your build. Very realistic scenery. Hope my father can do the same with his Canadian Pacific trains one day. All the best.
Thanks for the "behind the scenes" view of your layout. Never knew how to successfully use polyfibre before... hairspray & flock brilliant. Thanks for the tips. Love the barge.
I love your trees Mouldy, they are closer to real life than just the tree kits we buy!!! I have started taking maple branches about a 1/4 thick and cutting them about 6.5 inches long and drilling holes in them and adding sections of Scenic Tree to them with white glue then shaking on some Woodland scenics ground foam!! Real trees along the former main line of Conrail here in Indiana are up to 30 to 40 feet high!!!!
Hey hey hey it’s only Mouldy on a Thursday baby... Hello Lewis All I can say is what an absolute joy to watch as per usual. You can never have to much dirt and grime round old Railways and Canals but there is a balance to which which you are very attuned too. Stay safe, keep sharing and model on. Regards Lee@NEAR
Thanks Lee, always appreciate it. As you say, it’s a fine balance - I think I’ve gone too far either way in the past! I guess that’s all part of the learning curve 😉 You as well!
Hi Lewis, these additions that you keep adding to your layout is what makes it come alive. The addition of the coal barge, along with the extra trees from time to time as well as the added greenery is a perfect example as to why you are one of the best scenic modelers. I always look forward to seeing your videos when they are posted on UA-cam. Great work. Cheers Greg
Well - that explains it! We thought we were feeling much more relaxed and at peace this week - now know it wasn't an illusion. The two pikeys by the cottage beside the canal - I wouldn't trust them. Looks like they are pondering on hijacking that coal barge and converting it into a live aboard! Thanks for sharing - Teresa and Paul@ FLR
I’d have to agree with squirrel and chick , great stuff Lewis a artist . Fred ps I love my layout but don’t have that enthusiasm anymore unlike you Lewis just so good !
I find watching you work quite therapeutic...... beautiful scenery. I’m leaning towards adding a canal scene on my own layout, seeing this may have convinced me👍 Thanks for sharing Cheers John b🤓
Your trees are superb and the Trains reflection in the Canal is a 10. Coal barge is a great addition to the Scene. Looking forward to what you do next 😁
New mouldy raspberry video time! Always a good sight on my timeline. Expert modelling and pleasant music. I know they were added in an earlier video but I love the point rodding and signal cables you've installed.
Great addition. Farmhouse standing square against the hillside looked so good. Carriage reflections on the water and the narrow boat figures were a perfect match in that situation. Super filming, effects and ambient music ❤️👍

It all looks superb - one small point - the big barge should also be tied at the bow and stern. These lines are called 'The Spring', and prevent the vessel moving fore and aft on it's mooring. I was amused at the bloke by the signalbox who looks like he has a newspaper under his arm. I have no doubts as to where he's heading...
The coal barge looks lovely Really like how you have set the scene with the figures and details like the oil drum. Good to see the points now have locks as well. A requirement for passenger lines.
Hi Lewis. Its never finished is it always something to do or add. I love the little cottage up in the corner where you planted the tree, smashing little layout I'm still ballasting my layout hope to finish it next week. Well done Lewis carry on the good work look forward to next weeks one .and yes the barge looks great.

Another great video, Lewis. Just a suggestion regarding the trees - you might like to consider planting the bare frame of one (just the one!) to give the appearance of one awaiting the surgeon's chainsaw . . .
I love the idea of the coal transport narrow boat. But I would have moored it on the other side cause on the side it is it can't send the load anywhere. On the side of the cottages it would be easy to add a horse-drawn cart with a half load of coal bags and add a few near the boat as well as a few empty plus two half loaded in the boat near the figures. This would create a coal delivery cameo. And the holiday camper narrow boat would be at its place on the other side, adding for example a camping table and a family eating outside looking the trains pass... Still, I find the layout is getting better every new video and it inspire me a few ideas for my future N gauge layout project I hope to be finally able to start working onto soon.
I don't want to sound rude but could I suggest adding bow and stern line ropes to the coal narrow boat, as you have it tied to the center line which is normally used for pulling in the N/B to the canal side. Also you might have missed a small trick with ballasting, fresh ballast around new point timbers, either timber replacement or a bit of jacking and packing! I now live on a narrow boat (which has a N gauge layout) & spent 40 years on both a preserved railway & worked for BR. I regard Mouldy Raspberry as my relaxing channel. no people chatting a simple bit of back ground music, just great 😊👍👍
Thank you! Wow that must have taken some planning getting it into a small space. You’re right about the ropes, I could really do with adding a couple more mooring posts at each end to tie it to. 👍🏻👍🏻
You always have some room for a canal, and an iconic narrowboat, on an british layout ! I have the idea to put a railway tunnel passing UNDER a canal on my projected layout someday, I have seen the idea with a video from Network Rail showing how they remodel a canal pass over a railway line to accomodate the use of a overwire system on the railway line. They simply tore apart the overpass and rebuilt it at the right dimension, permitting again the trains, now electric, and the boats to keep circulating. Your work on this canal is an excellent rendition of this "narrowboats and steam railwy engines" scenery. You just have to add a steam locomobile somewhere to have a complet picture of an iconic classical british transportation scene. Maybea already planned by you ?
Thanks very much Olivier, appreciate it. That’s a great idea. I wonder if anyone had a way to make the boats appear to be slowing moving, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
The new canal boat is an excellent addition. I assume the concrete area next to the canal is where cargo would be transloaded to/from trucks or, in earlier times, horse drawn wagons. Potential for a very interesting small foreground vignette there? The Yorkshire Dales really gives the feeling of having visited the English countryside in the '60s. Very nice as always.
Outstanding work again Lewis, loved the trains just going about their business in the background. Barge is looking great. A cracking video all round mate, thoroughly enjoyable too watch. Can I ask please, what do you use for your tree armatures? They are huge, I love them! Any chance of a quick tutorial for us scenery buffs please? All the best mate, thanks for sharing another cracking update with us, looking forward to what comes next.
Thanks Ash. The trees are twisted gardening wire (I just get a role of Amazon). All the ready made trees you can buy seem way too small to me, so it’s nice to be able to make them any size. I cover the wire armature in DAS clay, stick seafoam on and then spray paint it brown. I did a video on it ages ago, linked below. Although I use a thinner wire now - much easier! ua-cam.com/video/QiopAMGuzso/v-deo.html

I ordered the same barge and it's just arrived. Was wondering how I was going to paint it with barges paintwork usually quite detailed and this has helped loads :)
Gorgeous. Love the barge. Do you ever plan to take this layout on the road? And I appreciate the shot of the entry point to the layout after my last question if it was attached to your main layout 😉

Beautiful! But, now what are you going to do? You need more room. Can you build another layout on top of this one? This is the model railroaders' dilemma -- What do we do after the layout is finished, and we have no more room? I've seen this happen over and over again. Some guys just quit. Some tear it down and build anew.
Thanks Greg, appreciate it. That’s a very good question! I’ll probably turn my attention to the rolling stock again. Weathering, detailing, kits etc. That should keep my busy for a bit.
Great stuff! This channel is one of few model railway layout channels I always watch whenever a new video comes out, just great to see your layout evolve with details! If I may ask, what’s the tightest curve radius you use on the layout, between staging and the new section? Cheers
