Psych evaluations should be done on cops every 6 months. As much as they deal with on the job and have the stresses of family life, it’s necessary (as any cop would say) for their safety as well as our own.
I have had 3 suicide attempts. I must say that my anger and depression are not the problem... it is what is causing the anger and depression....ie toxic people. Stay away from people who make you feel that you are hard to love and you will feel better, I promise.
Oh my, a reasonable outlook! Yes, although many of the commenters on this video seem to want to place blame on the man because....well....he's a man, and therefore the villain. Yet, there is a chance that the woman was being verbally abusive to the man (she was the one intoxicated, whereas he was not). There is the possibility that the woman simply degraded him until he attempted suicide.
His mental health needs have to be addressed. Hopefully he will be removed from duty if he is able to function moving forward. Death is a permanent thing. Hopefully he gets the help he needs.
Nobody can possibly know the whole situation but I think going through the humiliation of being detained and handcuffed contributed to his suicidal feelings. Law enforcement interventions, while obviously necessary at times, often can only add to the stress, frustration and humiliation of a challenging situation and I think frankly we need to figure out better and calmer ways to intervene in nonviolent conflicts.
Great observation. Considering his career choice, being detained and handcuffed (as well as all the tactical gear and bullet shields) would have definitely added to whatever life stresses he was dealing with at the time.

A couple of anonymous 911 calls about a man threatening to shoot himself, but nothing else. In fact, the wife's own testimony to the police was that she "didn't remember" her husband threatening to self-harm. Of course, the man himself said he wasn't going to hurt himself. The police had no other choice but to let the man go.

Attempted suicide is illegal in most states. It's just hard to penalize a successful attempt.

@alelectric2767 There's lots of paperwork to be cleared, work to be done in case of suicide success. And families suffer a great deal; especially since there's no insurance or worker's comp coverage
