Gentle giant❤ I remember close encounters when I use to teach diving years ago
I was sailing in Cork harbour (Crosshaven / Cobh etc.) and saw at least 9 basking sharks and a multiple dolphin pods. The boat went straight past a shark which must have been 8m at least. It's a relatively calm area where plankton, schools of fish, sharks are all there in numbers. Dolphins & seabirds helping themselves to the fish eating the plankton.
Holy F##k, where I'm West Cork was that ???
Beautiful
How does it taste?
completely harmless
Nurse shark- not aggressive, but they are massive
Basking shark, isn't it?

It's a basking shark (similar to the whale shark) it's a filter feeder (plankton-eating).
They were caught for their oil skin and meat right up to 95
