- this is from 5/30/99 in seattle at the breakroom as part of the subpop live vhs release.......jeremy enigk, dan hoerner, william goldsmith, joe skyward, joe bass. directed and edited by duncan sharp
Bass playing is perfect in this version. Hell, it's all perfect.
You know Dave Grohl picked him up to be bassist for Foo Fighters?
@@jz8179 i think U're thinking about Nate Mendel
Yea your right.Thats the guy
JOE SKYWARD. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2016. A singular being, a special friend, a wonderful musician ... Goodbye, Joey.
I know it's 3 years ago since your comment but I prefer this more than the album version.
This band is tight. They play so well in sync. That drummer is spot on every time.
Very on time.
Such a tight drummer.
One of my favorites. To me, they should be more popular. Love their music so much, and hope to see them.
These guys are so talented. I think they got tired of being labeled "emo" or w/e and went more experimental. This album is a masterpiece!
I call this good music
One of my favorite albums
@@saras7017 nah
@@Lukewarm111 what would u call it Luke Williams
@@saras7017 OG 90s emo
It's 2022 and this is still my favorite song. It's ethereal, surreal. You feel it in your body. I'm so excited to finally see these guys on tour next month.
I saw them in Orlando
What an amazing experience
Joe was the perfect addition in the absence of Nate. His contribution to Sunny Day felt monumental, and his passing left me mournful of a stranger who seems to radiate depth, and grateful for sharing aspects of it with us. So much happenstance brings music and musicians into our lives, but it feels like providence when you're in need. This helped steady my course in troubled waters. I was blessed.
Bro just look at em’ back to back!
RIP joe!
He's screaming voice is just a eargasm to me. Brilliant.
Yurr time to step into a 90s emo phase
It's why I listen to the live version a lot more. It's so moving.
I can’t believe that was the live performance which sounds so pristine and perfect
Sunny day utilizes that bass guitar better than any other band in their genre
Fr man always gives me chills!
Brand New too
@@MyBeautifulDarkTwistedFantasy6 different eras and almost genres as well but I see what you're saying brand new does utilize bass guitar well. I wanna make a joke about Jessie lacey but it's not really appropriate so I'll leave it at that.
bros never heard of TOOL
Bullshit, Nate is a great Bassman but listen to PENFOLD
the bass is very melodic
I saw them a couple weeks ago in dallas, they opened up the set with this song and everyone was completely stunned and speechless at how insane it was
I've listened to this song 10 times today.
gah, this song. so brilliant. so so brilliant.
Amen
only?
Make it 11, JZ.
Those are rookie numbera
rest in peace joe. thank you.
This song still gives me chills even after listening to it for 15+ years
i first heard this song when i was like 10 and it was the best feeling ever. 10 years later and this shits still a drug to me 🙏
Heard this song 2 years ago on the internet, somewhere I don't know how, but I'll never hear anything like it again. I don't listen to the regular version(studio), Instead I listen to this live version every chance I'm feeling it.
This is real, and amazing indeed lookb4ucross.. this is music.
This is a part of me forever.
i know it's been 10years but check out Radiohead i think you'd really like them. Listen to the album OK Computer
@@lane48877 you are not wrong. emocore pales after SDRE, but OK Computer is alt-rock worthy of the millenium change.
The bass in this is amazing. And the song is so emotional. Love it.
So THIS is that song I used to hear on the radio all the time
The radio use to play good music?
college radio.. like radio K here in the twin cities
Idk why but the vocal melody in the verse is so captivating, there’s something really unusual about it
I accidentally recorded "seven" off of MTV when they still played music. Best mistake I ever made! SDRE still one of my favorite bands.
so fucking incredible. top to bottom chills every time i listen to it, and i dig this lineup the most i think w/ everyone including Joe (rip).... GOD they're all so incredibly good, and you can tell by watching them all here that they _know_ they're a part of something so unbelievably special that it's quite literally a singular moment in rock history that *they're* creating right then with Jeremy
I miss the 90's. I saw this band in Boulder when I was in college (for Diary), and it always sparks so many memories.
i'm really depressed and appreciate this exists
How are you now?
What about now?
Hope you are better now. I've walked that line nearly my entire life. Meds help but it never really goes away.
@@bakocondors I've honestly found medication to just be a hindrance in the long run. Watching my friends fall into the same lull with the meds that I did was super demoralising, turning everyone into emotional zombies, horrendous consequences ensued. The only thing that really and truly helped was to figure out what I really wanted in life and try as hard as I could to fulfil it, no matter the challenge :)
@@aub6120 I had to kick that stuff, prescribed SSRIs with no follow up whatsoever, ruined me in various ways, eventually came off. Life's not easy but it's better
They sound brilliant. The vocals are really on point with the album. Sounds like there is a fair amount of flange or phaser on them, it's a great vocal effect. M.J. Keenan uses it a lot as well.
Even better than the album... his voice sounds f'n incredible.
30th August 2024 from NZ this is perfect, the bass playing helping me get through work (from home)!
i discovered this in 2024 and wow did I miss out. This is giving me chills
I just love Sunny Day Real Estate. Absolutely beautiful.
But you were always one to stay the same girl
I know you want to be the rain
And i know that we could fall in there
For a time and then unfall again
For awhile i take you burying old bones
Dawns grey the signs in the winter light
And i know that you can feel the pain
Your eyes speak one hundred million knives
Don't tell me you've gone astray
I walk in circles
I've seen a million things that tell me so
But i was always one to play the fool girl
Though the rules were somewhat dark to me
And i know that we could fall in there
For a time and then unfall again
For awhile i give you darium bound stones
Growing through the roots of your mind to set apart
And i know that you can feel the pain
Your eyes speak one hundred million lies
Total anxiety paid for variety
We'll wait for time to turn around your faith
Wait for time to turn
The world we sold there was a choir there
Don't tell me you've gone astray
I talk in circles
Everlasting chains that bind my purpose
Only i've seen the million things that tell me so
Total anxiety pay for variety
Wait for time to turn around your faith
Choked on society laced with cyanide
Wait for time to turn around your faith
Wait for time to turn
One of the best bands ever....
I can’t wait to see them live this year. This band is next level, but was so under valued. I will be taking my kids to these shows, to celebrate this bands legacy.
he looks so happy, smiling constantly. This music makes me so happy too, it's just so unimaginably beautiful, it almost makes me cry (in a good way of course). I really wish they were bigger, they deserved it, damn.
Phenomenal. This is easily the best live video of this song. Love the slower tempo; makes the main passage even more ominous and dark than the recording. Guitar tones are perfect, bass is beyond solid, and Goldsmith holds it down like no other behind the kit. Legends. Still waiting for the 4th album...
is it possible that you could fall in love with a song over and over again?
This song gives me that feeling when life is going good. I feel like things are moving forward. but then I realize I havent changed and are doing the same things ive always been doing.
sitting listening to music, alone and getting stoned. Everybody around me just tells me to wait for it to get better and it is. there are alot going for me right now.
I guess thats what life is for me, waiting for it to get better.
2:45 to 3:00 is drumming bliss. Well done William Goldsmith!
jeremy looks absoloutely beautiful when he sings
Joe Skyward was also the bass player in Sky Cries Mary and The Posies.
He was enormously talented and a great soul. He will be missed.
Stumbled on this video by chance. His voice is freaking amazing! This band is insane!🙌🏽
RIP Joe. And thankyou for uploading this!
I've forgot about this song and just stumbled on it again and i cant stop listening to it.
This song brings me so many different feelings and emotions at the same time..I deeply respect the live version..to me sounds better than the studio version. Just love THIS..
They have enriched my life through the years. They brought me beauty when I needed it.
definitely a favorite from how it feels to be something on and its also on the early live one
Saw SDRE at Rechter Theater in Towson, MD while in college in 98. Hands down best concert ever!!!!!
hearing this song live in 2022 completed me. after so long they’re back.
My second favorite SDRE song.
I used to listen this the whole night when I was 15...
Abraços!
(de quem tem a mesma idade dessa obra)
aos apreciadores de uma boa música!
Que banda fantástica!
Obrigado pessoas, obrigado internet
BR, América Latina
Phenomenal version and the bass playing / sound is immense (as is everything else)
Very underrated masterpiece of a group.
this replenishes my soul every time i listen to it, no matter how empty i've allowed it to become
I really really like this song and I can't stop listening to it
Coffee Pancakes saem
I bought the vhs of this show. I was extremely excited to get it
This song has been with me for years! And today it has inspired me once again 😇
cheers lads! good work ❤️
I've listened this song twenty times in this day, amazing song :)
this is pure emotionality in its absolute beauty of sadnesses… thank you sunny day real estate…
“we’ll wait for time to turn…”
Goddamn it, I love this song. Somehow I missed it years ago. I'm 42, age means squat in terms of music . Enjoy.
I miss these guys so much. It was such an eye opener when The Rising Tide album came out. It try swooned my heart. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🕉️🌞🌻
Saw them last night, mind blowing
amazing. SLower than on record, something very seldom seen. Only adds to the atmosphere. Great sound too.
My first listen through this song and I found myself enamored by how connected the lead vocalist’s flow and rhythm is with the lead guitar. And the drummer knew exactly what the hell to do
This is one of my favourite songs of all time..
Как казах ставлю лайк этой группе. слушаю ее уже более 7 лет ❤❤❤
Как приятно видеть людей из снг под такой музыкой) Беларусь🤍❤🤍
Unreal
Yeah, this is really amazing to hear again live. Raised on them. ❤
R.I.P Joe I am missing you my dear friend..
Love it even more than the album version. So f'n amazing.
I love how naturally breathy his voice sounds
love all albums... Diary, LP, How it feels to be something on, rising tide, Theif P. Secret Cow, Green, Blanket, Unread Book..all
Emo Sheldon!......j/k, Sunny Day had the right ingredients of members to put this blend of powerful rock together. Truly awesome and never replicated.
god i love these guys. best thing that's ever come out of Seattle.
90's Seattle, Washington was purely orgasmic musically. What I would do to be American and a teenager throughout that period. Shame I wasn't born until 1995 and in Britain :(
***** that's ok man, you can still listen and enjoy the music today =)
indiesthlm if I must ;)
sunny day was great back in the nineties... but honestly, it is even better today... So, my point being, it's never too late.
indiesthlm gotcha!
I feel like the chorus is more powerful in this version...
flooperduck I agree.
I only listen to this version
@@artproject110 50/50 here
They are both so beautiful in their own special ways
Where is the full show link , help 🙏
This live show gives me the chills man!
So this is where "the ghost of you" was inspired. Gerard way is a real fan of them
If this song were done by a band like U2, it would have been on the charts for weeks. It just has that big stadium feel to it and Sunny Day Real Estate are awesome for having done this.
This song always did a number on my heart strings, but with Joe's passing, it just breaks my heart that much more.
he was my friend too, and yes, he is missed...
Just watched them last weekend. They sound just as good as they did 12 years ago.
Masterpiece
Tears go automatically when hearing first 2 notes of this song
This has got to be their best song, hands down. I wanna see them live!
Uma relíquia do tempo. Uma pena ter acabado :/ Gostaria que se reunissem novamente para tocar algumas poucas musicas.
De vez ou outra eles voltam
Is this portugués?
@@joaquinruedavi5991 Yep
I love this so much. A masterpiece.
Anazing footage for the 90's. Im pretty sure I saw this tour in Chicago. Amazing band and great new album at the time. Is it me or does this tempo seem a bit slower than the record?
Raw emotion unlike none other.
FFFFF'N LOVE THIS SONG. Found an old mixtape of mine and this song was on it. Oh to have music sound this way again. Kudos to lookb4ucross. I'm right there with you.
Saw them in Orlando HOB September 22.....perfection
not a phone in sight fantastic
Foda demais, mereciam um espaço maior na mídia
William is pure gold... smith
i’d do anything to see these guys play live
this is sublime. it seems like the crowd doesn’t know whats happening, is it to much for them? I wish I could have been there. Only able to see them once when the rising tide dropped. Clutch Cargos in Pontiac Mich. holla
My gosh this song from my younger years. If I only had a CD player ❤
Hey man, I recommend you check out Balance & Composure if you haven't already heard of them, great band in the vein of 90's alt. rock/emo, I think you'd like them haha, they're a prime example of how not all modern music is terrible.
THANK YOU
thank youuuuu
i like how they gave the bassist a mic too
If 90s rock was so good it was thanks to bands like this
ive watched this like 372,463 times
thanks for the video, its precious
beautiful - loved those songs, Joe, you're no slouch, either.
Happy to know that Nate was having fun with the Foos but sad not to see him here.
yeah fun 💲💲
Such a gorgeous song
Great video! I was so happy to see them play in 09.
This is just too good. You guys rocked it out.
