It doesnt feel as heavy as some of the Harris tweed I have handled and perhaps not as coarse. Interestingly I couldnt find many historic images of CPO style shirts in naval settings, was it something your dad ever wore or was it more woolen jumpers?

I'm not sure re it being harder wearing than Harris tweed. Harris tweed is known for its robust qualities.
I would guess those wool jumpers would rub your nipples absolutely raw

They make some excellent wool products. Their jumpers and jackets are excellent. I will be trying one of these overshirts and a wool gilet.
