Hello Ro! I am quite young, but I have always loved and been interested in psychology! I have watched some of your other videos and I was wondering if it is compulsory to do some kind of work experience/volunteering/extra-curricular activities to have a masters degree . You are such an inspirational youtuber just because you have achieved a goal that needs hard work and persistent. I hope I am not too late and you can see this message

Hi Ro, your videos are so informative for psychology students! I was wondering, do you know if many unis in Australia have weighted GPAs for entry into Masters of Clinical Psych? (e.g. first year papers weighted less than third year papers). I changed my major and have to take some first and second year papers, and wondering if this will affect my overall GPA. Thanks so much! :))

Hi Ro, may I ask who your honours supervisor was at UNSW, I'm doing honours next year. And when should I apply for Masters of clinical psychology at different unis (during honours or after I've finished honours)? Thanks.

Navika, it's great to hear that you are aspiring to become a psychologist! Pay can significantly vary depending on whether you practice in a public or private setting. Most, if not all, psychologists who work in a public setting such as a public hospital or public outpatient clinic have their salary and wage determined by a central Enterprise Agreement or Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. This is a legal document signed by all or a majority of public hospitals with Fair Work Australia that sets out the salaries for psychologists at each classification level. When you are promoted in a public hospital, your classification level moves to a higher level and so does your pay. In private practice, there is no such Enterprise Agreement or similar. Rather, a private arrangement is made by yourself as an 'independent contractor' and a private clinic. This means the salary can vary (and be negotiated). In most instances, the clinician and clinic settle on a split percentage of profits/billings, meaning billings might, for example, be split 50/50% between yourself, the clinician, and the clinic. In addition, the clinician and clinic may set their own fees for client-facing sessions, and these may be above the Medicare Rebate. For these reasons, generally speaking, private practice psychologists tend to report higher incomes than public practice psychologists. To give you an idea of how much public practice psychologists (in NSW), please visit this link: www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/Awards/hsu-hc-psychologists.pdf. To grasp an idea of how much a private practice psychologist can charge per session, the Medicare Rebate for a normal length session is approximately $80-90.

Unfortunately at UNSW you had to do the science stream to be eligible for entry into Honours (however you can do the arts stream and pick up science subjects). I would recommend checking with her uni in particular :)

Hey Esma, yes it's tricky the undergrad part is just all theory which is annoying somtimes (it gets better in post-grad!).
After sessions I write a short summary of what was discussed, how the session went and what to focus on next time :)
