In 2014, the "Mad Foxes" of VP-5 deployed to Kadena Air Base, Japan in support of 7th Fleet operations. This video highlights some of their achievements on a historic deployment.
Awesome video! As an old Mad Fox (1973-76) who flew as a TACCO in brand new P-3C's, I share the excitement of today's Mad Foxes aboard a fantastic platform! Good hunting and stay safe!
May God bless the fine young men who fly these aircraft. Truly a delight to see such youthful men doing extremely daring deeds. Your training is phenomenal and I do wish each and every one of you the best.
Much appreciation for all of those that continue carrying the torch of freedom! God bleass and protect you. Fly Navy! VQ-4 September 1975 - May 1976, NAS Pax River, MD (trade school, class a) STRIKE Aircraft Test Directorate September 1976 - June 1979, NATC Pax River, MD
Great to see the first shot in this video is of that CFM56-7B GE engine spinning away. Supporting that program at GE was definitely one of many highlights thus far, and it is always good to know that the reliability and durability is appreciated.
I used to be really close with some VP-66 aircrew out of NAS Willow Grove up the road here back in the day. Things have changed a lot since they were flying P-2 _Neptune_ and P3-C _Orion_...
Wonderful video, bit shaky video at times but all good! Music fits perfect aswell. For those wondering, music is Porter Robinson - Divinity ft. Amy Millan.
Controlled you guys at NIP during the change over from P3. I personally loved working P8s vs P3s in the pattern. Better climb rate and much less abortion pattern (RTOs). I now control for the FAA in Michigan and every now and then a P8 will pay us a visit. Swing by GRR more guys!
Sorry fellas, it looks like the US Navy took the discounted way out! One would believe a design from the ground up would be an improvement tailored to VP Navy Ops, just as their surface/subs have done. I can’t but wish you success with a “Southwest Airlines” look alike! Great Video Foxes!!!
+ToonandBBfan It would be interesting if the UK buys the Kawasaki P1, my brother flew P3 Orions for the RAAF and flew the Nimrod and says that the P1 is a better overall package when you look at mission capability, obviously he is has no access to the classified areas now, but when our Govt bought the P8 they didn't look at the P1 where the P1 has much longer range TOS and it's designed for low level. I think the reason the P8 will be popular is the ease of getting parts given it's a 737 airframe. But this looks like a great aircraft, I just hope when Govts buy it they look at the P1 because I think that may turn out to be the best overall.
R Slug You could be right. But at least with buying the P-8 we (Britain) will have a hand in the aircrafts future and any up grades. I just pleased we're getting a maritime plane full stop. I would have been happy with a converted Hercules.....
Ryan M. Not possible, while it’s true a c-130 once landed on a Carrier in a test, the 737 is too big an airframe and requires too much runway to land on a Carrier.
Is the ride really rough or something? It seems like when I see these planes, the pilots are always bouncing up and down with turbulence or something...
Casey Ault Definitely hard to picture a 737 flying 200 ft above the water north of Adak. I'm with you...give turbo props. The P-3 airframe, like a C-130, is not replaceable.
+Kevin C. Isn't that what the "mute" button is for? Or perhaps your speaker's power button? For the entire video there's only the music track so you won't be missing anything else.
+usafa2000 It's possible, but not likely. Most pilots are LTs when they qualify PPC (Patrol Plane Commander, basically the same as PIC). Unlike in civilian aviation, what seat you're sitting in is pretty irrelevant to position.
+usafa2000 seat position doesn't matter...PIC and copilots fly both in the Navy, normally the PIC flies in the right seat because it is a little more difficult than the left with the HUD
+Alfredo Pacheco Jr It's the third pilot. We take three pilots for pretty much every flight and they rotate out at set intervals so there's always somebody resting. They can choose to catch some Z's for a bit or if theyre not tired, they'll hang out in the jump seat to stay involved in the mission but mentally rest.
+MerryTime Pilot That may be true, but it's not uncommon that it's the PPC to be in the jump seat, either. Any pilot that's out of FRS will spend some time in control.
So the P-8 can find submarines, now, but isn't capable of shooting a torpedo at the submarine because it can't stay 100 feet above the deck for long enough? Hmmm, sounds like they should have just pulled out the blueprints and started making new P-3s again. Hunting subs just can't be done from 30k feet. Hope they keep the P-3s in the "boneyard" wrapped up good and tight, sounds like we might need them in the future.
A little late but Boeing's HAAWC missile will allow hunting subs from FL300+. The P-8 might not have the same legacy as the P-3 (yet), but it is no slouch either.
Your choice of music made this video to hard to set through . Sorry . Forget the music and narrate your videos with your own voice , would be much better .
Awesome! Can't tell ya how proud I am to have helped produce these. Amazing to see them in flight.
This video actually just got me really excited to be AWO on a P-8.
so how was your life as an awo?

Great video! Im a Mad Fox from 2001-2005. The new bird is glorious! Proud of you boys! Cant believe we deploy to Japan now. Great song.
Much appreciation for all of those that continue carrying the torch of freedom!
God bleass and protect you.

Wonderful! Fly Navy!! However, do not forget the P2V7 Neptune, the S2 Tracker, and the P3 Orion!! Did I mention: FLYNAVY!!
I remember these shipmates from NAS JAX. The Pro's Nest " VP-30 1980- 1984 , yeah P3-C baybee !!!!
Wow! GO NAVY! So proud. The carrier fly by, the low levels, and of course the flir on the mdu. Now one of my fave vids.
This is an awesome video! Love the concept of taking a commercial aircraft design and turning it into a military bird! More videos please :)
I check into VP-5 in August 😄 (also a huge Porter Robinson fan)
Great to see the first shot in this video is of that CFM56-7B GE engine spinning away. Supporting that program at GE was definitely one of many highlights thus far, and it is always good to know that the reliability and durability is appreciated.
This video really makes me wanna join the Mad Foxes now.
great stuff!
I used to be really close with some VP-66 aircrew out of NAS Willow Grove up the road here back in the day. Things have changed a lot since they were flying P-2 _Neptune_ and P3-C _Orion_...
Holy cow its the Chops
FlightChops 🤗
Wsup Chops?
Worked on the P3 A,B & C update II. Would have loved the chance to work on one of these.
Nice. Go from Navy straight to the Airlines. Though it’s nothing like a P3 out of the blue with a couple engines shut down.
Going through application process to work on one of these in the Royal Air Force. Don't need any more motivation than the point at 1:49
This is wildly nostalgic to me now
Those shots of the periscope depth subs were great
Love this video in every way, and seeing a 737 based aircraft fly like this is just incredible! I envy the mad foxes!
Great video, I'll be starting advance maritime training next month at NAS Corpus Christi :))
I flew A4s, a tiny aircraft compared to these, yet I have admiration for those in command of planes big enough to have I head on board.
I love the P8 and those winglets!
From a 737NG driver.
Truly neat. My goal is to be a Naval Aviator myself and to me it looks like either this or electronics warfare would be my top choice, great vid!
Happy that Norway has ordered 5 Boeing P-8 Poseidon. Looking forward to receaving them.
Wonderful video, bit shaky video at times but all good! Music fits perfect aswell.
For those wondering, music is Porter Robinson - Divinity ft. Amy Millan.
what music?
Love the overhead, abeam, rigs. We were never allowed to do those during my time. Very slick video though my heart will always be w the Orion.

Miss this crew !
Best 737 OPS in the world and the best looking 737 too.
Bobby pilot.
top! this is the 10 best pilot video ever seen. surprising its from army and has some level of dignity and self-respect!
you mean Navy?
Went from fucking off at NAS flight school to flying the most bad ass aircraft the Poseidon
RANGERS
Looking forward to seeing the first (of 9) of these at RAF Lossiemouth next year.
Nimrod....RIP.....
Awesome time-lapse pans!
I'm still proud of my unit! Once a fox, always a fox! Keep on keeping on foxes!
My father is Mad Fox Alumnus, its great to them in action
VPs! Prosecuting holes in ocean. None better, none since.
Keep the fleet safe!
THAT WAS A REAL COOL VIDEO
VP-46 The Grey Knights represent!
VP pilots are like : we fly airline jets,... without altitude restrictions.
Old squadron. Only thing I recognize is the squadron patch. Things do not remain the same. ☘️🍺
My son has flow on that plane several times, but now he is at Pax River. (Penguin)
this video makes me miss the P-3c Orion
Superb!
Love the Bacground music... makes me want to fly this morning. What title is it.....
"Divinity" by Porter Robinson
Fantastic!

Do they still have an IFT on the P-8's? I flew for 10 years in VP-31, VP-40 and VP-65!
Awesome Video!!!!
I'm British and I hope our government has this airplane at the top of their shopping list. (should NEVER have scrapped the Nimrod)
+ToonandBBfan I got to see a Nimrod fly at Oshkosh when i was young. A beautiful aircraft. It may have been one of the last Nimrods to fly.
uberme163 I had a ride in one at Air Cadet Summer Camp in 1993 at RAF Kinloss
+ToonandBBfan It would be interesting if the UK buys the Kawasaki P1, my brother flew P3 Orions for the RAAF and flew the Nimrod and says that the P1 is a better overall package when you look at mission capability, obviously he is has no access to the classified areas now, but when our Govt bought the P8 they didn't look at the P1 where the P1 has much longer range TOS and it's designed for low level. They are on the way to British inventory.
Imagine one of these getting made carrier capable
Ryan M. Not possible, while it’s true a c-130 once landed on a Carrier in a test, the 737 is too big an airframe and requires too much runway to land on a Carrier.
Wow, they do go low.
Absolutely no worries about mach overshoot in this video. :) JK Good job, guys.
No Winglets? Thought they would extend the time on station but perhaps they increase radar detection.
It’s an airliner.... you think radar detection is a concern?
Is the ride really rough or something? It seems like when I see these planes, the pilots are always bouncing up and down with turbulence or something...
Nice music video, but a royal pain if you're trying to actually see video of the P-8...
As a former P-3 guy flying 767s now.....this is embarrassing. Choads.
definitely sound like a former P-3 guy
Casey Ault Definitely hard to picture a 737 flying 200 ft above the water north of Adak. I'm with you...give turbo props. The P-3 airframe, like a C-130, is not replaceable.
Yeah this might as well be a delta airlines commercial.
Only two people on that big airplane?
Level earth, no curvature.
60FPS! smooth!
No Fox Like A Mad Fox!
It's a 737 ... At least they are all set for a job back in the world
Get rid of the music ( if you can call it that ). Let us just hear the sounds of the aircraft and it's surroundings.
A boeing 737 that can shoot rockets. Wow
AGM-84D "Harpoon" and can also drop the Mk-54 torpedo
Music ran me off on Sunday morning, sorry.
+Kevin C. Isn't that what the "mute" button is for? Or perhaps your speaker's power button? For the entire video there's only the music track so you won't be missing anything else.
@@mizattg no music please
Woah. Is that a LT JG flying PIC?
+usafa2000 It's possible, but not likely. Most pilots are LTs when they qualify PPC (Patrol Plane Commander, basically the same as PIC). Unlike in civilian aviation, what seat you're sitting in is pretty irrelevant to position.

Is 03:16 a Chinese warship?
Ka Kiu Chan American ship. The Chinese are afraid of the deep water :-)
MlLKMAN it is a Chinese Luyang II
@Ka Kiu Chan yes, its a Type 052C destroyer from PLAN
my cousin is in the mad foxes
I want to konw the music name
Porter Robinson - Divinity (Feat. Amy Milan)
FUCKING AWESOME VIDEOOO
No windows.😢
They need an FE to fly a 737? Really?
+Alfredo Pacheco Jr There is no FE on P-8s.
Chance Passen then who's the air crew riding jump seat?
+Alfredo Pacheco Jr probably a 3P fresh out of FRS without any quals...

I bet the mechs love to big turbofans. compared to the T-56 which required tons of man hours.
I miss the Allison T-56 as well. The welcoming hum as soon as we lifted off from the deck. Gone are the good times.
Music has never made an aviation video better, only worse.
4:17 thats not something you see everyday on a 737 PFD
Yes, 330 KIAS @ 400 AGL is something different. Also, seeing a warship on the MFD is pretty cool as well.
Mad Fox IFT 89-90 Bermuda

We didn't fly the P-3's at 100 feet above the deck, either, except for during takeoff and landing.
My MUTE button came in handy.
the music sux's... Plonk!

Dub life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1974 GODAIONE X FOR
Music drop it... ugh
Good video. terrible music
music is not necessary and sucks
Your opinion is not necessary but here it is
Remove that irritating elevator music from the video and put the aircraft sounds back.
Looks like good duty!
