In my opinion the most successful 125 motocross bike ever made. I raced them and I loved them!!!! A bike like this comes once in a lifetime👍🏼
As time goes by, these bikes look better than ever...I had the 1982 YZ125 and loved it, but this Suzuki looks beautiful.
I agree. I never liked when the big four started using sharp angles on the front fenders etc…
@@agtronic ah yes 1979...I agree
Kaplan is crazy on 125's just full throttle all the time, love it :)
Dude can ride that's for sure
The only way to ride a 125 is flat out until you have to stop.
@@jonnothetrucker Agree, I was distracted from the bike and focused on his riding technique. He's got some skill and balls for riding like that with no gear.
@@TheModelmaker123 dude would be mid to late 50's, he's been there, done that... it's all about experience, coupled with knowledge and pure live for the thrill 😃
@@gogogeedus you are correct sir!! WFO all the way!
Man...you are seriously killing me . I would have given anything to keep my RM's and KX's from those days . But I raced for team NOBUCKS back in the day and needed the cash for next year's bike(s) . And...for concert tickets , the pretty slip and slides and all that goes with that ...WAAAHOOOOOOOOO ! Life was good then . PK
Kaplan is a KTM (killed too many) this 1982 RM125 is the last MX bike I raced in competition as it was me and my buddy as a team for Hughes Honda and Suzuki ..we shared 3 bikes between us .. CR 480r Elsinore, CR250R Elsinore, and this RM 125 full floater that was the best bike in 1982 for 125 class and I rode it in a 30 plus class And in the 125b class. And my partner Brad lake wrote it in the 125a class and Semi-Pro
Brother I hear you. I wish I still had my 84 RM 125
AURORA Z LIGHTING INSTALL REVIEW. ua-cam.com/video/4nn02HHTTio/v-deo.html
My friend had a kx 125 back im the late 80s.. Thing was a beast when your 10 years old
1983 rm 125 I had that same bike, was a great bike back in the day, had full dg pipe too
First motorcycle that I bought myself a 1983 identical to this one in 1986 I was 17 years old.
What good memories.
Ross Pederson was an ambassador for Suzuki in Canada in those years.
Thanks for keeping all those old bikes alive.
My greetings Qc,Cdn.
My first 125 bike here in the uk man i loved that bike! Hours and hours of FUN that sound brings back so many memories close my eye's im back on it.
Kap looks like You've rode a 125 a time or two.Man you're giving it hell but that's the way you ride a 125 Motocross Bike.I had a 1979 RM 125N and Loved it.Never got to ride a 81 or 82 or newer 125.I did have a 82 RM 250 which was a fast bike.Loved those Suzuki's back then they were the best.Barnett and Howerton proved it with All the Nationals they Won.
I will Never forget the Day my best friend across the street from me brought home a 79 RM 125 His Gramps bought him. We all had late 60s early 70s heavy trail bikes. We where looking at it like it was from Mars. I'm 57 born Oct-8 1965. Our Pops all worked for G.M. in Flint Michigan. The average working man back then couldn't afford to buy their Son's bikes like that. Brings back a lot of Good Memories. Beautiful bike!! Makes me miss them Days, and my Pops. He was a Good Man
Wow…My son races that same bike in Vintage. That 125 can still kick ass on the track. We have fun together, me on my 88 CR500 and him on his 82 RM125. You guys did a bang up job and you sir drove the wheels of it. God bless and never stop doing what you guys do best.
These were the hot ticket when I was a kid and they still look absolutely beautiful!! Great job!!!
That bike is a stunner! The black fork boots, those tiny rad shrouds, fullfloater sticker on the swing arm, even the drum brakes look awesome, i love that bike, cheers boys!
Nothing better than mid 80s 125cc 2 strokes. Had an 85 and 86 KX125; so light, so much fun to ride.
My 86 certainly wasn’t the best bike I ever owned but it was probably my favorite to ride.
I had an 87 KX 125 wasn't as fast as my buddy's 87 CR but it handled like a dream.
@@577buttfan never rode an 87 but was supposedly a big improvement on the 86. The thing I loved about my 86 was that the harder you ride it the better it worked.
@@raoulduke3770 That was the same as my buddy's 85 rm80.I had the 86.
Ken had that motor singing to the top of its voice. Go hard or go home :-)
Had the 250 version in my early teens. What a beast of a bike!
My first bike was a Honda Z50A mini trail. My first full size bike was a 1981 Suzuki RM 125. Suzuki dominated on the track with Mark Barnett and Harry Everts in the early 80s. Suzuki also won about every magazine shootout in '81, '82 and '83. Thanks for showing Suzuki bikes of their golden era.
Me and my brother both bought new rm125 D.s in 82, It was an excellent bike and it was a quick bike.Bikes were cheap in those day's and these were only 1200 bucks brand new, the eighties was an awesome time to own and ride a mx bike.thanx guys for the reminder of the good old days.
The 82 RM's were Z model's btw , back then l raced a 77 RM125B , 79RM125N & 2 82 RM125Z's all awesome race bikes .
@@chopperenduro6590 I had the D model in late 82 before it was released in 83. I had the 125X which over here was the 81 model, before that I think my first bike was a 250 t that I bought from my brother,he had a series of RM's his first being a 250c, then the N and T Model which I owned for a short while, We didn't race often initially, just rode for fun but after a while we got into racing but we road in the bush mainly and had a track in a quarry, we also used them on the farm, our farm was rough and couldn't be accessed by normal vehicles especially in the winter.
Gotcha the 83's were D models & you got yours early l should of caught that . I still have a 1978 RM250C bone stock barn find that needs freshened up , l call it my Tony D bike .
That was a fine demonstration of what it takes to keep on the pipe with a 125 2 stroke. Never for a second let the RPM die. Shit, that brought back memories of my 77 RM 125 when I was 17 yrs old.
That bike was so good in 81 that Zook got lazy and just did a sticker change for 82 and 83. It held up for 82 as the clear winner but 3 yrs was too long to go unchanged and in 83 the all new Honda CR 125 kicked everyone’s booty…. Beautiful lookin bike there!!!!!
Beautiful bike. I had a 78 rm 125 back when I was a kid. Brings back great memories.
Boy... I can smell the fun from here!! 🇺🇸
I always find it insane how badass 125cc can be!
Heck. Watch a proficient rider on a KX 60 it'll do everything the big bikes will...holeshot, wheelie in several gears, and jump doubles and triples lol. Two strokes CAN NOT be beat !!
Cush oil casing kx65 small wheel 2010 need help people
Fantastic driving skills full throttle
This Guy looks like Wolverine on a motorcycle
(This is a compliment)👍👍
I can’t wait to see the RM 370 when it gets done… it’s got my blood pumping already!!
Same!
raced one on these back in early 80s rm125x the year before but practically same bike apart from transfers, only weakness are crank main bearings and stator coils, apart from that a hell of bike streets ahead of anything at the time.you had to keep the singing all the time like ken is doing in video you've still got it man .
I love what you guys are doin! This reminds me of my first bike ever, an '82 RM 465, even had the DG exhaust. I wanted a bike SO bad growin up, and my parents would not budge. I told them as soon as I turn 18, I'm gettin a bike. That's exactly what I did. My buddies brother was selling the 465, bored .30 over. Talk about a steep learning curve! I loved that bike, it just sounded like a monster! I live in a hilly area of southwest PA, and that thing would dig trenches. I could pull the front end up through all four gears easily. I was able to outride my friends who rode all their lives in a short time. My next bike was a brand new '99 KDX 200. Wish I woulda hung on to the 465 though!
M8 even the KDX 200's are worth hanging onto 🔥👍
@@lancecooper4646 yes they are. I traded it for a quad, then went back to a bike. 🤦♂️🙄😏
Ha nice. Same thing with my parents... no dirtbike until 18! Then as soon as I got a bike at 18 my dad then got one, and then another, and another...for my younger siblings. and we've been riding ever since.
@@thooke222 man that's great! My dad never did that, my mom would not allow that for sure! Plus my dad just isn't bent that way. He's more of a book smart type who likes to build models and do woodworking. Which is fine, I was just more the athletic type who liked to get outside and have fun.
My folks were the same way. I bought a rm 125 and hid it at a friends house till his dad called my dad and said he wanted it out of his shed.
The Kaplan time machine strikes again! My first dirtbike was a Husky WR250, an exact replica of which sits on the second floor of the museum. A beat up but serviceable RM125 was my second. Tons of fun on both those bikes. Thanks for the memories!
Ken Sr. Please keep ripping! Your old school, wylde ridding style on vintage bikes is bada$$! Boots, tank and 3/4 brain bucket.
I know you folks love those big bore bikes but these small bore are a blast to whip around
have an 83 RM 125,my first MX bike in 85. Lovin it
Man I could watch you rippin around there all day long, takes me back to my well spent youth! 😁👍
That bike rips.... Manic mechanic doing his thing... Old school rippa... !!!
Reminds me of my new 82 PE175 back in 84. She was a rippa too once I put on a 81 RM250 pipe, Answer silencer and Boyseen reeds. Just wish I had VP110 back then. Great job Ken and the whole crew. Brought back some cool memories. The 82 RM250 was a rocket 🚀 too !
What a gem 💎 I reckon it would still hold up against some newer 4 stroke in fact I know it would
Love that era of mx bikes, that's how you ride a 125 2 stroke , thanks for the 2 stroke sound track for lunch time,
the bike that changed dirt bikes forever
I really dig the history lesson on every bike. The format of how you deliver and present these bikes is great. Demo, History lesson, Details of bike and how you can own it
I have that exact bike sitting in my garage. It's been parked for nearly 23 years. Someday I'll get it going again. My bike has a blue frame, engine, and seat, which I believe is factory original. I love that 2 stroke sound!
Blue frames came out later. 1984 maybe.
ITS A RIPPA!!! As soon as they drop the mandates for covid at the border from canada, I am heading to the museum so I can see these machines with my own two eyes, man, I absolutely love your bikes.
I had the RM465 sold it, then bought the 125.
The 125 was far more fun.
Can't beat a screaming 2 stroke! Used to love watching them race back in the 80's at the local mx track. Simply fantastic!
man i could just watch this 100 times over and not get bored, the Kaplan is riding it on the edge and then some, wow i get a buzz just watching it, i bet Kaplans heart was pumping after that blast, how to wring every last hp out of a bike WOW
Full floater straight eating it up! Damn son hold on to her!
i had the 81 rm125.. age 19 my first mx bike bought with my wages... great fun..handled nice.. was actually VERY reliable we didnt have much spare cash to throw at it.. we had to use tyres with knobbles missing and sprockets with teeth missing because funds were low.... but it never broke once i almost 2 seasons of club racing.. minimal maintenance.... ieventually moved onto the rm 250d .. much easier to ride fast.. less gearchanges but great memories... ive not done anything as exciting as racing since those days
The 81s were case reed vs straight reed's in 82 and up! The 81 had a much narrower powerband but almost hit like a 250! The 81 was one of the fastest 125s of all time! The 82 Rm 250z was the ultimate!!
Thanks for showing this old beauty. I had two 1982 RM250 at the time they came out in the 80s.
This was my first real dirt bike! Thanks for taking me back to memory lane! Great time in my life!
I have a 1981 RM 125 that a good friend bought new. I bought it from him a few years later and it’s still in my possession. It’s an amazing bike. When it hits the powerband, hold on tight. What a great restoration you guys did to it. Nice riding Ken. You’re an animal on it compared to me. But I am 63. 😂
I am still searching for my 76 RM100, The rides and smoke such a great era!!
That was this first motorcycle iever road with my dad .Was born in 79 and he bought it in 81 and kept it for a while that exact bike made me fall in love with motorcycles
Those older rm's where sick along with the yz's and cr. A great era for dirt bikes. 👏
This was my first bike at 15. I switched my money earned in the summer holidays at the lokal farmer for this one. Sentiment. 😪🥰
I haven't been watching the Chanel much lately got a quick glimpse of this one and i Love this guy! Captain rolls man!
God bless and Long Live the Dinosaurs!
These bikes were absolutely amazing! I spent many hours on this bike. A lot of really fond memories of this bike. Thanks for the video
I have a 81 rm 250. My friend owed me a few bucks. I took possession to square the debt. It has a neat story behind the original owner. He had the bike built to race Supercross. He raced for a year and a half. He didn't get the sponsorship he needed, so he quit. The # on the plate is 34 I think. This bike I found looking beat down. But when I got it running, it's a freak of nature! I've rode most of the bikes out there, this is my favorite. Amazing suspension, too much power and feather light. 53 year of riding, this was my biggest surprise ever. I love bringing these old bikes back to life. Never know whatcha gonna get! Only way I would replace it, is for more cc. Keep up the good work. Keep the two wheels down guys! Peace
that rm is so sweet love when you just rip the bikes so sick i just picked up a 2003 kx250 2 stroke love it
What memories! I raced 125 Juniors back in 1982 in South Africa on an identical bike. I was 15 years old! Great bike!
What a ripper! Used to love to watch those bikes rip back in the day. I never did own one, but it would've been nice.
Nice. Very nice. I too would say that Suzuki had the best mono shock setup in that era.
I cant wait to post what we do with my dads 81 survivor! It is crazy that those shrouds made it, my dads was low hours but the shrouds were cracked bad.
Worth every cent, what a job and what a demo, that bike loved it.
Full floater is amazing it really was bottomless....I remember not making a double waiting to get launched over the bars and bang just kept going! I'm Grew up riding in LI we used to ride behind of the city of glass, had an awesome sand pit back there!!
2 strokes are making a comeback you heard it here first fellas.
This is a retro style of riding with a retro era bike. Absolute joy to watch
I've been sick for a few days and that was the most fun I've had in week, Kaptain Bad Ass had me smiling ear to ear!
Seems pretty healthy for an 82 👍🇺🇸
Kaplan is the man! Keeping those 2 strokes alive
In 1979 when I turned 15 yrs old my mom and dad bought me a brand new RM 125 . I still hear that exhaust in my Dreams
That bike runs exceptionally well that antique full floater wasalso one of the best. You can see an obvious superiority .
Just watching how well Sr. Thows it around like a pro it's easy to see .One bad ass 125.
This was my 2nd bike. Also always started first kick. Wish I still had it. I had so much fun on it, hillclimbs, sod drags, hare scrambles, and a few hundred hours running the track in the woods behind my parents house. Payed 400$ for it in 1993. It was a family friend's old trophy getting bike from Michigan. Wherever you are old bike....come back!!
Ohhh, does this bring back the memories. I had a basket case of an 82 that I got on trade for a Fuji BMX bicycle. After doing the jug with a Weisco piston, rings, wrist pin & bearings… I moved to the carb & rebuilt it. Added Boysen reeds, an RK chain, Sunstar sprockets, an aftermarket Ceet seat cover (went blue rather than OE black), new OE plastics & OE graphics, Renthal bars, Scott grips… I remember it like it was yesterday. Anyway, it ran like a striped ass ape. What a great bike.
My RM125 was like a light switch - keep it in the power band with the 6 speed transmission. Great geometry and easy to stuff it into corner and blast out of it. Mark Barnett, Jeff Ward, Roger Decoster etc.
Haha LOVE IT!! You can always tell when a big bore rider jumps on a 125. They just thrash on em still begging for more. Very nice ride an kickass demo.
RM rippa ! Awesome restoration. Would be cool to see before resto and after shots of some of them.
Big dude rippin 125. So pinned and that sound brings back memories.
I love the 2-stroke 125cc no matter the maker...
Great video
Yep.., he rips those One-Two-Fives UP...
🏁🇺🇸🏁
The way you control that dirt iron haha nearly threw you off a couple of times you are a beast ken ❤️
Absolutely beautiful man, sounds frickin amazing, suspension looks perfect even with the big guy aboard! JIm Meenan, Greg Mayo, Dave Rucnicki, those guys were stupid fast on this bike!!!!!!!!
Sr raced with all those guys In 87 88
My first bike was an 82 rm80. I was the luckiest kid on the block. Brand new right off the showroom floor. Thanks dad. God rest your soul. 💔
I am 18 and I've had a 2000 rm250 complete restored and built by with full exhaust high compression head 280 big bore and more and 1 day ago I just picked up a 1982 rm125 hell yeah
Franchement, tu as vraiment une collection de moto, a faire rêver
My buddy used to have one, they're notoriously loud and sound great.
This man can ride a bike no joke keep on getting it bro rock on
Watching this has made my day, 125's are just so much fun, finished my racing days few years back in the twinshock series (uk) 78 rm400, wish I keeped it now, great vid 👍 😀
Riding it like it’s stolen. The most artistically, beautiful bike at the time.
Oh yeah, nothing like a round fendered Suzuki ! I remember Mahk Bahnett the bomah and I remember sneaking into the Pepperrell MX track from the woods many times ...
Full Bannana, hahahah! Nice lookin' Rm! That scoot help Suzie out of the 70's.
Killer suzka! I had a similar 82 by 125 cubes in the 90s, that ride also looked familiar when driving along people’s yards at night. Oh these times 😁😎
Looks so good & sounds incredible!!
These are the best dirt bike videos in the world I dare say.
That’s a sweet hike bring me back ol time bandit Ken Sr ! Riding it like it was a toy !! Whew
I had a 1982 Suzuki RM465 that I bought brand new in 1982 for $2,395, and it started 2nd kick every time when it was cold, then once it was warmed up it started 1st kick every time. Ran like a champ for 8 years, from 1982 to 1990, then I sold it. Never had one engine problem with it, all I did was put a new top end on it every winter.
Gorgeous bike. Cool to see and hear it in action!
I had the same bike, I remember sand had got passed my air filters and it lost some compression. That was the only time I could hold the bike wide open, super fun. Air filter design suck, cool bike
I love 80 s dirt bike this one sound powerful and look beautiful good memorie whent the bike had nice style
Those air cooled 125's were so light and fast in the 80's! I used to ride a 81 YZ125 and that thing would fly.
solo veo CALIDAD. Kaplan eres un hombre afortunado. gracias por este gran contenido
Me and my dad rebuilt a 82 125z. In a drag against my 02 yz125 it would hang neck and neck even switching bikes between us. The yz obviously had a bit more bottom end due to power valves but the 82 just felt so much more comfortable and plush in comparison. A really fun bike it is
From been a kid I always wanted 2 stroke motoX bike. I used to go upto the park and watch afew lads on them and it was my dream as a kid to own one. Back in 2008 I bought a 2006 YZ125. I had it 6 weeks and some low lifes stole it. I was gutted........years later I wanted another one but I didn't have anywhere to keep it and plus the fact I didn't want anyone to steal it so I got into RC cars! Over the last 10 years all the money I have spent on RC I could of bought 2 brand new KTM Moto X bikes ( only 2 stroke of course ) and now getting back into watching your UA-cam videos I'm starting to regret not buying one again!
