    This video will show you how to build a DIY wine bottle tiki torch in less than 30 minutes.
    Plus, you'll be able to place the tiki torch on any outdoor table because it's weighted with sand.
    The first step is to drink wine... or beer....
    Or just get a bottle from a friend!!
    That option is certainly cheaper.
    Buy a bronze flange and wrap it with teflon tape. The flange needs to fit inside the bottle. The teflon tape makes it a tighter fit.
    I explain the flange a bit more in the video.
    Fill the wine bottle half full with sand. Use a funnel.
    Then fill the bottle with tiki fuel. I like BiteFighter since it repels mosquitos.
    Feed a tiki wick through the flange and insert it into the bottle. The wick needs to rest on top of the sand.
    Trim the wick so it's 1 inch above the flange. Allow the wick to absorb the fuel for 10-15 minutes and then light your tiki torch.
    All the materials should cost about $10-$20. Yes, you could buy a cheesy tiki torch for about $4 but it won't be as cool or table top friendly.
    For more details simply watch the video :D

    Excellent project,Thanks...One (probably Dumb) question,Is there any concern of the bottle heating up,and breaking?

    How do you refill the fuel if the flange is pushed into the bottle?

    This got me fired up to start finishing some projects in my backyard. Summer is coming, after all.
    I could use some help with a gas fire pit. I've got a large pit with a gas line running directly from the meter to the pit. So far, the pit is just stubbed out and I've been putting off getting burners/fire rings, mainly because they're going to be crazy expensive for how big this thing is. One thing I haven't been able to find though: When putting the fire rings under sand/rock, how far below the sand should the burners be buried? I know too high will defeat the purpose, but too deep can cause explosions and other problems. Tips?

      SlickWeng wish I could help you with this project but I don't know the right code for it. In our area there are specific regulations for fire pits, so one place to start is with your local codes. It's not a bad idea to call a plumber or two and see if they'll help. It's worth the peace of mind when dealing with gas :D

    Short fat bottles work the best, also tall bottles will go out before all of the reel burns due to the length of travel up the longer wick.

    Is there a better mix for weight for this? like something that wont absorb the fuel? Like maybe still use sand but then add resin after to create a seal from the sand to the fuel. And how about the heat in relation to the bottle? Is there any safety concerns with that and prolonged use? Because I don't want to set my backyard on fire because the bottle explodes after 10 hours or so lol

      FinalFantasyFan66666 you could always add pebbles?

    • @kegmon

      Aquarium gravel would work and not soak up the fuel.

    Don't the sand will suck down the tiki fuel?

    will this work with plastic or glass gems?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  9 років тому

      777SEER it could, that's a pretty good idea. The heat should obviously not be anywhere near the gems so you should be good :D

      @@HomeRepairTutorwhat’s stopping anyone from simply drilling a hole into the metal cap and using the cap that came with the bottle?

      @@trapperwoody7501I wonder if they even need the flange? If the bottle came with a metal cap, why not simply use the metal cap that came with it by drilling a small hole into it?

    So I made 4 if these. I cannot keep them lit
    I have to relight them literally every few mintues. I've had them for 2 years so I know the fluid soaked the wick. Plz help, I don't want to throw them away

    • @Sellfastpanamacity
      @Sellfastpanamacity 4 роки тому

      Did you ever solve this problem? I have the same issue. They only stay lit for a few minutes.

    • @chadsalter9961

      Same here. I saw a video where guy used 10” long 1/2” copper w/ holes cross-drilled through to help absorb fluid. Not sure if it’s the cure but I’m going to try his idea before getting frustrated by them. Mine are also rather large / long bottles which I hear is opposite of what you want. Shorter / wider bottles are supposed to work better, which kinda sucks compared to the look we currently have…although they don’t work so time to experiment 👍🏼

    Cut the Wick....... um, PULL the Wick back down to Needed Length!!
    WHY cut the Wick???!!! Pull it down in to the length you need, UM, THAT WAY, You have a Full Sized Wick that Doesn't have to be cut and will last longer..
    Oy Vey!!
