Haltech dealer chiming in. A smart 8 year old can setup Haltech. Its easy and tech support top notch not to mention the UA-cam page teaches you everything.
I was in the market for a new ECU. I'm in Sydney. I went with Holley only for the reason the Haltech was so expensive. This was just before the Rebel was released. Worst part was the way everything on the Haltech is an add-on which you need to buy. The cost just keeps adding up.
I purchased a Haltech and love it. Super configurable and expandable. They have offices in US East, US West, New Zealand, and UK, so there is always someone to pickup the phone. I have never once had to wait for a tech. I have emailed them before going to bed, and I have an answer waiting for me when I wake up in the morning.
The best part of HALTECH is the customer service, PERIOD. They’re leaps and bounds of ahead of everyone else (I always thought AEM was decent) as long as you were competent tuner. HALTECH will sit with you for hours if needed and log directly into your computer (with no secondary software as they have their own built into the box) just click help and code pops up and they have access to your ECU. Lastly, customer service is almost 24/7 (there is a 1-2 hour lapse when they’re closed) but besides that you can always get ahold of someone.
i've had the same experience. i had a guy call me BACK on his way home from work to troubleshoot a DBW issue i was having. guarantee Holley employees don't care that much about the customer.
I'd suggest a deep dive into it Joe. I may be a bit biased as we have been running the Nexus R5 on a car for some time now, along with Haltech being 5 min up the road, but I love it!! Wifi is awesome as I can download a log in less than the time it takes to fuel the car during a pit. Another feature I like (with nexus) unsure of rebel. Is that the laptop will power the ecu when connected. Reach out if you're interested 😉
it seems like its a decent system, curious how stripped down the rebel will be vs. the full blown stuff. there just isnt enough haltec stuff around me currently to justify going through the learning curve. if this ecu takes off and becomes popular it would make more sense, then just like terminator x into a dominator - im sure once you get familiar with the rebel you can hop into the other ecus pretty easily. haltec has some cool stuff it looks like
Haltech has cruise control for DBW! And the big thing about PDM with built in solid state relays is data logging the amp draw to easily find clogged fuel filters or a failing pump!
In Australia Haltech is everyone's go to and the people who aint using it are all slowly converting. Its easy to wire in and for the price it cant be touched. The heads up despays even have outputs if you have used all the ecu ones. All ecu accessories can be used between the hole range. tunability it has a lot going on but who wouldnt want more tunability. To be honest when i seen you apear with a Holley hat on and saying you do tuning classes for it i was a bit sceptical but its hard to be bias when holley cant compete haha hopefully soon we see you make the jump to Haltech as well 👌
Many Years back, coming from the Import side of things, Haltech came out with the best product lineup at the time and were priced aggressive enough to end AEM's dominance in the space. Another thing about Haltech, is that they were born out of Boost. They were never known as the ECU you would buy for your N/A setup. They always had more features, better features and competitive pricing. If they are going after Holley, it will be interesting.
The haltech makes advanced tuning for traction control or maybe rev matching on downshift easy. Whereas Holley requires you to create wonky custom tables and think upside down to be able to pull off the stuff like this. All my friends are laughing at me for still sticking around with Holley while they've all switched to haltech
The rebel does have a 4 channel PDM. 3 25Amp channels are preconfigured (injection/ignition, fuel pump, cooling fan, and has one 25Amp configurable channel. A nice thing with their dash, a future firmware release is going to allow bidirectional communication with the ecu and that dash design software will then be in the NSP software. The dash can then act as an expansion box as well. Also fairly certain their CAN keypads will work with it as well which is a nice touch but comes at a cost obviously. Like you said excited for there to be more competition which is never a bad thing for the end users.
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest The PDM functionality in the Rebel is identical to the R3/R5 with the exception of how the outputs are allocated. You still get full voltage/current/output frequency logging, etc. And as Cam mentioned, you still have (1) configurable 25A channel
glad you did a video on this. my original plan was to move from my sniper to a term x or HP, but after researching haltech's nexus line I'll most likely be going that route instead. maybe one day you'll branch into haltech a bit so i can get some training on it with the tune the trilogy course :)
One thing you mentioned about Haltech tech support being closed…. The beauty of them being both on the east coast and Australia…. Is they’re never “closed” - after business hours here you should get transferred to Australia tech support
Thank you for the video, you did a really good job! Just a couple of points - if you don't like phone apps and wireless, the ECU comes with a USB interface so you can plug it straight into your laptop. Correct, Bosch 4.9 LSU sensor onboard. Yes you can add extra CAN widebands (including NTKs) if you want. The PC logs on the Haltech log all the channels, I think it's 1000 channels or something, but the rate is low over USB. The internal logging in the PC is when you need to select the channels you want but it does have recommended channels. The case is powdercoated diecast top and bottom. For the inputs and outputs, you're correct on the number of them. And yes you can run an I/O expander box or a PD16 if you need more I/O. Thank you!
Id have to check it out. I don't doubt it has more features and stuff. like i said in the video haltech just isnt popular at all in this area so there has never really been a reason to familiarize myself with the system. now that this rebel thing is almost free, im sure it will atleast become a little bit more popular
I've never gotten through to Holley in less than 45 minutes. They have 2 offices in the USA and of course 1 in Australia. I've gotten help evenings and weekends and almost never had to wait on hold. All of their techs are Haltech ECU techs as opposed to someone brought in from a company Holley purchased, like Mr.Gasket. (Maybe that changed). It does have a PDM built in. I've used both Holley and Haltech software. Holley is easier but I don't consider Haltech to be difficult, it's rather user intuitive. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Haltech allows the NTK sensors on their latest units.
Holley has a lot going for it, but as someone whos been installing these since day 1, They have too many harness issues, like entirely too many harness issues. It's almost to the point it's more often then not I have a harness issue. And now that were seeing a couple years on some of them I'm starting to see ECU Failures. Plus Holley is still lacking some basic stuff IE Flex fuel, no reason I should have to burn up all the advanced tables for flex fuel. They finally gave us open loop boost control which should have been a release day feature. The 6l80 feature is neat and I want to experiment with that. But I'm going to have a rebel on it's way as soon as I can order one to try out and if it works well which I'm guessing it will I'll be pushing customers that way. From what I understand the rebels will have a fairly large number of base files that should get most everyone up and running. I'm sure we'll see a slightly simpler firmware on the rebel.
Here in australia haltech is the absolute best engine management system for pretty well every application. I run their 2500 elite in my xr6 turbo. Their NSP software is amazing and their tech support is awesome! I watched haltechs video on their rebel nexus and holy it looks so good.
Theres so much info on the Holley stuff already. I feel like most people have invested time and money in learning it. Its going to be tough to break away from. I do believe Holley will be updating their stuff to keep up and try to make a better product. I'm about to get another terminator, especially since they've knocked some of the prices down for a bit until November 30th.
i dont think anybody is going to switch from holley to another entry level ecu, i think this would just kinda be aimed at the people who are about to purchase their first ecu
My advice to anyone is go with the ECU that has the best support. In terms of customer support on the phone, internet forums where other users and the company can respond and local tuner options. I got screwed over with a EMS EM ecu (another Australian company which has gone bust now), but it was an absolute nightmare with no support and nothing online.
They are both great ecu’s. Haltech is great on manual boosted cars, gives you lots of options for flat shifting, anti lag, launch control etc. Holley is very dumbed down comparatively which is good for most people that are just looking for a upgrade from a stock ecu. I would take ether over a fuel tech any day.
Nice unbiased initial assessment. I'm running a Haltech right now for secondary fueling and PDM control. I think the simplicity of the Holley Term-X will be more than adequate for 80+% of the gear heads out there without having to deal with the complexity. If the ECM config locks down and simplifies the NSP software, that may change. Excited to see the LS ECU hit the market and seeing a more in-depth review. Keep up the great work.
I think you missed that there’s a Haltech SetUp Wizard that asks you all the questions about your engine (the cam, the displacement etc) and that does your tune set up. It’s also a long learn map model aka the more you run the engine the more it TUNES ITSELF. You don’t need a “guy” or a tune file.
with the haltech you can email or call any of the countries that has an office any time of the day and someone will answer for instance your racing at night in the USA you can call haltech in australia and someone will answer and help so more than just a couple of people in a office
I think it´s fair to assume that Haltech is gunning for the European market and Australian market as there is still a bunch of LS motors there and more experience with Haltech already than Holley, especially in Australia/New Zealand, despite Holley selling a bunch into those markets. I don´t think anyone at Haltech assumes they will dip deep into the sales of Holley in the US. Their strategies are also legacy long lasting and working for 25years+ strategies, there are very few faults or issues in the way they are designed as they have evolved extremely long and so overall the base FW and SW is very robust, so it´ll come out running with few issues. I don´t see personally much benefit in having a traction control curve to follow. The Haltech in it´s own right can be made to do the same through user tables etc if someone believes that is the best way to handle traction control for a drag car.
I called Holley tech support back in July or so, and other than wait time I had a great experience with the guy on the phone it was about a hurst shifter though not Holley efi
just like anything else its all a matter of who you talk to and how long you gotta wait to get ahold of somebody. most peoples complains are usually with hold times more so than the actual support its self. just a numbers game at that point.
I'm swapping my G37S with an Gen4, i was thinking about going Terminator X but not that i see this and the fact that I shouldn't need any extra screens and i can use the CAN to work with factory gauges i will go with the Haltech set up.
For the average LS swap guy, the Haltech almost has too much functionality for its own good. I hope their tech support is ready for the flood of newbs they're going to be getting.
Worth noting that Link ECU just came out with a standalone LS harness that looks very tidy. They say it's compatible with their StormX or XtremeX ECU to Gen 3 LS1/LS6 or Gen 4 LS2/LS3/LS7. Link ECU is very similar to Haltech except New Zealand based, a bit more affordable for comparable features generally, and with a slightly different product range with more focus on plug n play options. They also have fantastic customer service and the help files build into the tuning software can basically explain every single thing you click on. It's been a great experience for me so far, though I'm not an extremely experienced tuner. I do find the PC Link software more intuitive and navigable than most of the other tuning software I've played with. Link also offers an affordable PDM option which is integrated via CAN bus and you can link multiple together. They are getting more popular in the USA lately and have been big in Formula Drift for several years now.
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest exactly! The 4.9 is good for most people but ethanol/methanol on FI, the NTK is a much better sensor (less fragile to condensate in exhaust).
@@AWD_DSM_FTW yea for sure. if the 4.9 wouldnt be so hit or miss on how long they last it would be better. the big thing is the ntk's just last so much longer. then meth is a whole different ballgame, but if your set up is at the point of running meth i hope your not complaining of the price of an o2 sensor haha
I don't usually comment on anything but here goes; I think you're just a little reluctant to try a different platform, which is fair since Holley is well in the comfort zone. I've watched your vids for a long time and you've used other stuff and I'm surprised you still continue to choose Holley. I've use a wide range and the Holley stuff is just sub par compared to the competition, if nothing else all these other companies jumping on the LS PNP bandwagon will force them to innovate even a little. Haltech definitely targeting Terminator lol. Every new software suite is intimidating in the first 15 min, Holley was no exception for me. I jokingly refer to Haltech as the Holley of Australia (aussies looove it when I say that) as they like the word proprietary and their software is as simple and 'done for you' as it can be while serving a wider range of engines then just the LS. They do let you have access to more features, but you can hide the stuff you're not using which makes it look less intimidating. They also let you have your own defined tables, inputs etc AND virtual switches etc. There are error messages that guide you along setting something up, and its all pretty spelt out directly in the software. There are still some things they just wont let you touch. And yeah lol Haltech has their own jargon compared to many other brands. IMO Holley's software looks like the CD-Rom games I got out of a cereal box as a kid. I hear what you're saying regarding tech support and company size, but end of the day it really doesn't matter to the customer. My usual hold time with Holley is 45 min and I get some dude reading a script who has 20 other calls to get to. Haltech has tech support basically 24/7 between all their locations and I've never felt rushed talking with them and especially AUS knows the product inside and out. Holley always has to "ask my manager". Haltech already uses Wifi on the Nexus ECU's, I'd imagine its refined connection wise at this point. Secondary box for transmission sounds like Haltech LOL, but agree its probably better for later changes Yes its a PDM with 4 outputs for Fuel pump, Fan, Injectors, Ignition coils etc. I like this so much better then what Holley does Pre crimped cables with a twist lock style battery terminal like in Car audio probably a good idea. They notably skipped the RadSok connectors that the Nexus' have.. There's some great training stuff for Holley and much tribal knowledge, but I'd caution that with an equal amount of bad info out there too. When the info comes from the manufacturer it can be assumed that its good. Haltech has excellent youtube videos and articles/walkthroughs/FAQ's on their site, which I can't say for Holley. Updating a Terminator is one of the most ridiculous processes. I can't believe that hasn't been addressed yet. I wouldn't judge the pre-production harnesses too harshly, especially if you're going to compare to the ugly junk Holley gives us. Their build quality has really gotten worse lately. Off the shelf harnesses are always a compromise in fitment. Haltech have put firewall boots in for years, with a un shrunk piece of glue heat shrink for after you've installed it, great idea. I've used Smartwires, was great tech like 12 years ago but not even relevant to talk about now in price or features. Oscilloscope function such a save for diagnostics. Worth adding that feature just for tech support's sake I love that you skipped addressing Flex Fuel, as that is a very sore point again Holley... Not 100% sure on this, but I think you can have your layout templates on your laptop stay from car to car. Or just load your template every time you plug into a new car and you'll know where everything and have it where you like it. At the moment I don't love the Haltech logger, my local tuner does but he has more time on it then I do. The Holley one always looks like a mess to me though. If you made is this far, hats off to you. I am thrilled there's going to be a price competitive alternative to Holley, I'm probably biased the other way and if given the option would take the Haltech any day of the week based on my current experiences with both. Love your videos, looking forward to more. Haltech should just send you a Rebel lol.
That's funny he thinks Holley coined the phrase " set up wizard." That phrase shows up in almost every software application I've opened up over the last ten years. Cars and CNC electronics included. 😂😂😂
Spend some time with a haltech. I bet it grows on you. Haltech was the first ecu I ever tuned when I started. I’ve done a ton of them. We sell maxx ecu right now. They are Swedish and it’s a pretty awesome ecu. Anyways love your content. Keep it coming. I’ve learned a lot of hollley from watching you. I despise their software in some ways lol. Lack of being able to see 3d and 2d table is a big one for me.
If this rebel thing becomes popular im sure i wont have a choice but to become somewhat familiar with it - as it sits there are basically zero haltech cars around be so it hasnt made much sense to familiarize myself with it. seems if you dont spend a bunch of time using an ecu consistently, each time you use it again you spend half of your time trying to remember what you used to know haha
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest absolutely. Around here in Calgary it’s anybody’s game lol. So many different shops selling different ecu. I have to tune haltech. Link. Ecumaster as the big 3. Then maxx as we sell which is my favorite. I also do some hptuners. Some Holley here and there. A few of our drift guys are running na ls3 setups. Our sponsored drift car is a 750 whp 2jz running emtron. That’s a pretty advanced ecu. Can be as simple or as complicated as you want. Anyways. Thanks for the reply. Love your videos. Have a great day.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS JOE!! I was torn apart between these options and the new HPTuners standalone.. When you get the details on the HP tuners, could you make another video for that one? Edit: just saw you reference the HP tuners ECU now. So I guess we can expect a new video eventually
my absolute guess is that the hp tuners still will be somewhat limited on cool "standalone" features for a while but in a few years may be pretty cool. im also guessing its not going to be an entry level option. i could 100% be wrong on both of those things.
Love your vids Joe. But after PRI, I'm going with a Haltech Elite 2500. Granted the new Rebel is to compete with the lowly Terminator. But Haltech is proven and Holley is a 50/50 chance it'll work out of the box. Been here, done that with a bad Term X right out of the box. Plus the harness grounds were bad splices.
ive been saying it since day 1, holleys idle control (or lack there of) is one of its weakest links. what it offers works good when it works but when you get that car that doesnt want to cooperate it becomes a situation.
From a guy thats used both let me just say, haltech software looks better and operates much better, faster, and easier than holley. Also haltech ecu's dont brick and wipe all the info every time you try to mess with it unlike my terminator x. Haltech ftw, about to sell my term x that just bricked itself AGAIN for the haltech unit
Only thing id argue with haltech is the price point with all of the accessories, haltech seems to always be more expensive but my god everything works so nicely
If I hadn't just bought a digital dakota dash for my C10 that works with the Holley, I'd rip my Terminator out for this. I will definitely have one of these and most likely an R3 for a streetrod project. Haltech says it'll support dual O2 sensors with adapter. I wonder if you could use an NTK here instead of Bosch with the CAN adapter for the wideband? I like that the Haltech does lambda. That's always been a hurdle for me with the Holley systems.
dont hold your breath haha. im 99% sure the reason they don't do it is they cant handle the amount of tech support phone calls they will get from people trying to figure it out. dome pressure based control is significantly easier to work with. people have been asking for it for years, you think they would just do it so they dont have to listen to people complain about it anymore haha
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempestWhy would dome pressure be easier? Since now you need to try and see what pressure gets you what boost and than its not lineal vs actual boost when you increase dome pressure . So being able to use Map sensor as boost input for boost control would make it easier ?
I understand that Holden ? Is the gm cars in AUS however, I don’t see any of the cars here ?? So Holley is entrenched in USA and until the Haltech guys get the acceptance here they will be the brand from AUS like Holden is. They seem to have a great product, though!
@@davecolquhoun9315 haltech has been around forever if they were ever going to make that big of a splash they would have done it already. Motec is really the Australian powerhouse in the USA
They said it's only ment for the LS but that there is things you can do seems dumb like if you juat need to see crank and cam control some coils and injectors and map then a few other things but you can adjust everything like the teeth on the trigger wheels you could run a lot of other things with it
Ya when there was no competition a 1 bar map sensor was fine for people doing na but people doing na are probably going to use a stock computer but like a 3 or 4 bar sensor would have been cool and probably not cost much more
Haltech was purchased by race winning brands. They own dart, mgp diamond and may others. They have many locations but only one on the east and west coast
i didnt know they were purchased, makes sense. also didnt know they had a west coast location - ive only ever heard of their australia location and their kentucky location - but like i said in the video i dont know anything about haltech haha
Produce an ECU that does transmission control and DBW in one box then MAYBE another company will take some of the market back from Holley. Add a couple of I/O while you're at it. Engine control only, those are everywhere, no thanks. Also, separate box to run the transmission, that reminds me of the FAST XFI days, not going back there either.
I was shopping between the three and downloaded fueltech and haltech software. Fueltech software seems very basic and I was off put by things mislabeled on their piniut map and how clunky things were. Plus side is fueltech were the only people who told me I wasn't stupid for wanting to do batch fire and wasted spark. Tbh I think the fueltech community and support is significantly smaller than haltech. But I also think fueltech caters more to drag racing than other motor sports
fueltech is interesting, people either absolutely love it or absolutely hate it. ive seen a lot of issues and problems with it first hand, but it has some cool features and stuff as well. people like it in the drag race world, wouldnt be my first choice for a street car. software and strategy's feel old and dated for a lot of stuff. ALL of these ecu's have pro's and con's. its just a matter of choosing the one that has the most pro's and the least amount of con's for what your using it for. at the end of the day they are all doing the same thing.
just to make sure I am understanding your statement correctly, you believe there's 'More' Screen choices with holley? if that's what you're claiming, that'd be an incorrect statement..
the meaning was that the holley can work with many different digital dashes, and gauges, and the screens on the Term X if you are not a tuner seem easy to read due to the icons seem more windows based@@Mintonperformance
@@jasonalper7898 let me create the comparison for you.. The holley Term-x Will work with the holley branded dash options and any other solely case specific dash options offered.. Haltech's CAN protocol will work with ANY dash that uses a standardized structure of CAN, or accepts A DBC file, which includes but is not limited to: AiM, Motec, AEM, Plex, Cosworth, Emtron, Bosch, Magnetti Marelli, etc. there is no comparison.
@@jasonalper7898 and I could build an interface that does work with haltech, but I won't. why? because holley wants to hold their protocol tight, and nobody's waved enough money in my face to justify the cause of wasting my time with an inferior product to Integrate
"Hi I'm Jon, and here's a biased opinion of my thoughts of the Haltech Rebel ECU, having never used any Haltech system, and endorsing Holley for years..."
I actually had to stop less than 6 minutes in, Holley is a good system, but its so god damn simple that its annoying as hell. Holley is bigger which is easy to understand considering the range of crap holley do. Haltech is just ECU/VCU which they offer a much more flexible system and there tech support is second to none, As an aussie that has had to deal with Holley tech support and tuned Both Haltech and Holley on a regular basis over the last 15 years, I suggest you actually try the system and learn what its capable of before you make judgement of it.
Nothing that I would want. If someone wanted to use it I would say you'd have to have it dynotuned then take a course to tune urself. Where holley you can probably get a mailed tune then play with things @ ur own pace but who knows I could be completely wrong. People just need to order they're harness from Devin vanderhoof so they get a good harness for holley from the get go
From the hardware standpoint you can not compare terminator X with a haltech rebel even with the holley hp from software way the only thing holley is good at base maps for LS and o2 control PID you can literally make it run it's self that's why most of people choose holley in there, junkyard builds. price ways, tech-support quality I will not go into these details. I was Holley guy since V1
Holley has been lying to its customers since day one. Talking about how the terminator x or any of there units is a plug and play unit. Also, saying how the ecu is smart enough to fix the problem for you after plugging it in and letting the car warm up. Which is a HUGE false statement. I use holley and regret every bit of buying one. The amount of people I've talked to and seen on Facebook complaining about holley, holley should have a lawsuit on their hands right now for selling sht products that are falsely advertised. This is what happens when you fall flat on your ass with products only to favor there car events more.
haha I paused the video at that comment and came to comments looking for this, I have an HP ECU since V1 (2010ish) and it's been flawless for my needs, and I have used the System Log to confirm odd issues with crank/cam sensor signals for my dual sync (gen1), but I'd agree it's not the same as what I understand Haltech's 4 ch built in scope to be. The built in current monitoring on the outputs is cool feature over the Holley need for wiring up inductive probes as inputs, and I also like how the Haltech let's you print a nice I/O map/diagram on paper for documentation and posterity...great video as always @JoeSimpsonAtTempest thanks for the sharing!
I'm currently using a Dominator on V6 without issue. I have taken a few system logs here and there to confirm proper cam/crank signals... but an oscilloscope it is not haha@@frankconte5545

To be honest when i seen you apear with a Holley hat on and saying you do tuning classes for it i was a bit sceptical but its hard to be bias when holley cant compete haha hopefully soon we see you make the jump to Haltech as well 👌
you can use all haltech CAN O2 Wideband Controller with NEXUS Rebel LS
Haltech logging to the pc is not limited in channels like onboard. It automatically logs all the active channels.
Only limitation is the polling rate. PC Logging is 40hz I believe.
ah, nice to know! thanks
All Haltech CAN devices should be compatible. CAN Keypads, Dash, IO Expanders, CAN-EGT, etc.
i kinda tried to say that in the video haha. seems like a pretty cool idea.
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest The PDM functionality in the Rebel is identical to the R3/R5 with the exception of how the outputs are allocated. You still get full voltage/current/output frequency logging, etc. And as Cam mentioned, you still have (1) configurable 25A channel
@@ProModsPerformance nice. seems like its going to be a pretty cool unit
glad you did a video on this. my original plan was to move from my sniper to a term x or HP, but after researching haltech's nexus line I'll most likely be going that route instead. maybe one day you'll branch into haltech a bit so i can get some training on it with the tune the trilogy course :)
One thing you mentioned about Haltech tech support being closed…. The beauty of them being both on the east coast and Australia…. Is they’re never “closed” - after business hours here you should get transferred to Australia tech support
ah thats pretty cool. mainline (in Australia) basically works the exact opposite hours of us, so thats kind of perfect.
Thank you!
I hope You start a course for Haltech soon!! Going Haltech here, coming from a Holley ECU
Joe you have to do the Haltech nexus R3 vs Holley HP. That’s were it really shines.
I had an injector harness issue with the terminal at the ECU which I mounted out of the way under the dash. Drove me nuts for a year!
List is 1800 for a terminator x for a 4v/2v ford.
And if the rebel is 1500 that’s dealer price for a termi x.
You can call haltech 24 hours a day they have tech support here in the usa and aus
Here in australia haltech is the absolute best engine management system for pretty well every application. I run their 2500 elite in my xr6 turbo. Their NSP software is amazing and their tech support is awesome! I watched haltechs video on their rebel nexus and holy it looks so good.
What about the EMS EM80 all for only $1300. Theres probably a reason its half the price of the others ??
Theres so much info on the Holley stuff already. I feel like most people have invested time and money in learning it. Its going to be tough to break away from. I do believe Holley will be updating their stuff to keep up and try to make a better product. I'm about to get another terminator, especially since they've knocked some of the prices down for a bit until November 30th.
i dont think anybody is going to switch from holley to another entry level ecu, i think this would just kinda be aimed at the people who are about to purchase their first ecu
@joesimpsonattempest Hopefully you can answer, doesn't have to be great detail...Do you prefer DBW or DBC?
@@brick88nose depends on the application. Street car dbw is nice. Big power car dbc
@JoeSimpsonAtTempest nice thank you for the response. Sitting here debating which kit to purchase. It's just for street use.
Man I'm glad you made this video. I was about to start doing mad research on the rebel
there is still a lot to know and learn - im surly no expert on it haha
What's under the Vehicle CAN menu? Will it take inputs from CAN devices in the car? Cruise button etc.?
with the haltech you can email or call any of the countries that has an office any time of the day and someone will answer for instance your racing at night in the USA you can call haltech in australia and someone will answer and help so more than just a couple of people in a office
HALTECH to run my HOLLEY TERMINATOR X 4500 throttle body - HA - hopefully. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
Oh snap, this was a video ive been waiting for.
Hey dude it’s Bobby from the start of tempest. I’m sooo glad I found you on here. Proud of you too for all you’ve accomplished. How are you?
whats up man! ive replied back to a couple of your other messages. shoot me an email. tempestracing@gmail.com
I love the constant dry sarcasm!!😂
For the average LS swap guy, the Haltech almost has too much functionality for its own good. I hope their tech support is ready for the flood of newbs they're going to be getting.
yes, thats basically what i was trying to say in the video haha
"I'm actually trying to go the rest of my life without ever talking on the phone"
I hear you brother! LMAO
text message, email, smoke signal - anything other than talking on the phone its so unproductive haha
It doesn't matter how large you are, tech support is key. I would not haven't even said that.
NSP allows you to run LSU4.9 or NTK with a CAN WBO2 controller.
Yep, just have to buy the correct controller. NTK controller is different from Bosch.
assumed that was the case after looking at it again after filming the video. 4.9 direct from the ecu or 4.9/ntk with the can controllers
I don't usually comment on anything but here goes;
I think you're just a little reluctant to try a different platform, which is fair since Holley is well in the comfort zone.
Secondary box for transmission sounds like Haltech LOL, but agree its probably better for later changes
Yes its a PDM with 4 outputs for Fuel pump, Fan, Injectors, Ignition coils etc. I like this so much better then what Holley does
Pre crimped cables with a twist lock style battery terminal like in Car audio probably a good idea.
Worth adding that feature just for tech support's sake
I love that you skipped addressing Flex Fuel, as that is a very sore point again Holley...
Saw an ad for this new product and was wondering what tuners thought of it. Thanks for the vid and thoughts.
on paper so far it looks like a pretty decent option. hopefully they dont strip it down too much from the standard software
That's funny he thinks Holley coined the phrase " set up wizard." That phrase shows up in almost every software application I've opened up over the last ten years. Cars and CNC electronics included. 😂😂😂
Yea that guys an idiot
Where did he say they "Coined the phrase"? He just said they're using the same terminology.
@@FastPaull the internet is a wild place isnt it haha
@JoeSimpsonAtTempest It do be like that sometimes
Can't wait to throw the Nexus on my LS
All that extra adjustability in idle looks nice. Thats one of the things i miss going from factory to terminator x.
ive been saying it since day 1, holleys idle control (or lack there of) is one of its weakest links. what it offers works good when it works but when you get that car that doesnt want to cooperate it becomes a situation.
Hey like the vids bro i
n your opinion what would be th best ecu for ford pushrod motors ?
If haltec made it so where you could use vvt it would be make the swap more direct because you wouldn’t have to swap your cam
If you managed to brick your Term x ecu, you're also going to brick a Haltech ecu
If I was racing , I''d go for a Motech, but for street - it's gota be Haltech for ease of use / support / parts availability
With any luck this competition will finally get us map based boost control unlocked for terminator X
With luck yeah, I know a few guys that really need that input that gets burned when tee'ing the MAP signal back to another input.
dont hold your breath haha. im 99% sure the reason they don't do it is they cant handle the amount of tech support phone calls they will get from people trying to figure it out. dome pressure based control is significantly easier to work with. people have been asking for it for years, you think they would just do it so they dont have to listen to people complain about it anymore haha

They said it's only ment for the LS but that there is things you can do seems dumb like if you juat need to see crank and cam control some coils and injectors and map then a few other things but you can adjust everything like the teeth on the trigger wheels you could run a lot of other things with it

They all need to make the ECUs more affordable. Im happy with HPTuners.
The only automatic transmission make sense to do is 8hp and Holley doesnt have nothing for that
Curious about HP Tuners standalone 🤔
I wonder how it'll be compared to the new Hptuners CORE LS standalone??
my initial assumption is the hp tuners isnt going to be in the entry level price tier. absolutely guessing though
How does the fuel tech 550 compare to these?
Haltech ❤❤❤❤
One major issue, is the canbus, Big gain with holley is the screen choices.
just to make sure I am understanding your statement correctly, you believe there's 'More' Screen choices with holley?
if that's what you're claiming, that'd be an incorrect statement..
the meaning was that the holley can work with many different digital dashes, and gauges, and the screens on the Term X if you are not a tuner seem easy to read due to the icons seem more windows based@@Mintonperformance

"Hi I'm Jon, and here's a biased opinion of my thoughts of the Haltech Rebel ECU, having never used any Haltech system, and endorsing Holley for years..."
I sincerely apologize for saying the new haltech ecu looks promising and i plan to buy one to try out.
Haltech is the clear winner
Holley is so expensive man my God I can just imagine what halltech will be $$$$
I actually had to stop less than 6 minutes in, Holley is a good system, but its so god damn simple that its annoying as hell.
I guess my judgment of saying I’ll buy one to try it out because it seems promising wasn’t enough. Got it
Nothing that I would want. If someone wanted to use it I would say you'd have to have it dynotuned then take a course to tune urself. Where holley you can probably get a mailed tune then play with things @ ur own pace but who knows I could be completely wrong. People just need to order they're harness from Devin vanderhoof so they get a good harness for holley from the get go
its really that exact scenario with any and every ecu. holley is more beginner friendly for sure though.
holley shut me down as well, 10k or more a year minimum purchase
From the hardware standpoint you can not compare terminator X with a haltech rebel even with the holley hp from software way the only thing holley is good at base maps for LS and o2 control PID you can literally make it run it's self that's why most of people choose holley in there, junkyard builds. price ways, tech-support quality I will not go into these details. I was Holley guy since V1
Watching
PRI is SEMA, but for professionals.
U funny as hell😂
Holley biased shop doing a review is a little hard
Man haltech is way better than the holley
All Im trying to do is keep my 240 hp suzuki g10 from having a meltdown. 😂

ehh thats pretty generous calling a system log an oscilloscope...@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest
haha I paused the video at that comment and came to comments looking for this, I have an HP ECU since V1 (2010ish) and it's been flawless for my needs, and I have used the System Log to confirm odd issues with crank/cam sensor signals for my dual sync (gen1), but I'd agree it's not the same as what I understand Haltech's 4 ch built in scope to be.
I mean Haltech is a league above Holley. Holley is for the poor man. I like my Holley but the haltech would be my choice if I had it again.
Hmmm! sounds like a Holley dealer trying to sell his product.
@@ducrider123 i am not a Holley dealer and i don’t sell either product
bro what you saying!
"Haltech pdm makes things a little easier"
WHAT-THATS A HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT!!
THAT ALONE MAKES THE UNIT THE WINNER IN THIS RACE
COMBINING PDM AND ECU IS A HUGE BENEFIT FOR BEGINNERS AND PROFESSORS
YOU REALLY GIVE HALTECH ALLOT OF HATE FOR SPEAKING LIKE THIS
TO ME THAT MEANS HALTECH IS THE WINNER
NOTHING U SAID ABOUT HALTECH IS TRUE
"you saw the attention at pri haltech had at pri!
the whole world is talking about the convenience of combining ecu/pdm! wiring a car with this is half the work and four time the reliability!
its time you ditched holley and called haltech! 🇦🇺 🍺 🍖!!!
mispronouncing Haltech and somehow making a half hour video out of it.
Worthwhile comment 👍
@@JoeSimpsonAtTempest it's Hal tech. like the Hal9000
Bro. You have just become another shill for a company that will pay you some money to just to bag on other great products. Seems like it was a very "neutral" review but I'm done here until you get back in the world of many ECUs not just a US built one. Have fun
haha, what? Holley has never paid me a penny and I even said in this video they canceled my dealer account. In this video I basically say this looks like a very solid option, just that the software is more complex and the learning curve is going to be harder - which may be a good thing if you have enough experience to learn it. get back into the world of many ecus? 99.9% of all of the videos on this channel have always been about holley as thats what comes through my door almost exclusively. the internet is such a weird place
holley kinda of sucks. customer service, horrible
Haltech is now US owned Sadly. That is why they are producing components for crap LS engines.
lol...holley has like maybe 5 guys working tech support as of June when I did my training class
majority of holley tech support works remotely
lol right. a couple time ive called in the later hours i could hear kids im the background. No big deal it was a good experience overall
i have to say at this point iam pretty much married to holley at this point
most are. this is going to be for people who have not bought a system yet. i dont see many people switching from holley to another entry level ecu.
