@@dezertfox3130 Oh, he's extremely talented, but he seems to be (Asperger's aside) a bit of a control freak. Making Tina audition again was a dick move.
David Byrne was just in Austin, TX, to promote bicycling and his new book, Bicycle Diaries. He's just a lovely human being and I'm so glad he's still out in the world, spreading his genius.
for some reason I always had the impression he was some type of self absorbed weird rock art guy, but after watching this my view of him is very different. Awesome to see two true geniuses like eno and byrne working together.
I just saw him in his Utopia show in Boston on 9/28/19. It was fabulous. I was puddled up when he sang my favorite song; This Must be the Place. A few days later, they took the show to Broadway. It's playing in NYC right now. He's amazing 😍
A true creative, so open to trying, experimenting, discovering, not letting formula or fear of failure control him. He's so sweet too, like a boy, very sweet, sincere and modest. ihearthim.💖
David Byrne is the best kind of mad genius artist. He's the kind of guy one would love to have over for dinner and conversation and one hell of a musical jam session. Thank you for sending us an angel.
In comparison with most entertainment interviewers (*cough*eTalk*cough*), it's really refreshing to watch an interviewer that doesn't instinctively gush at celebrities nor rely on sensationalism as fodder for their queries. Knowledgeable hosts who ask intelligent, probing questions and who create a laid back environment where guests are at ease are very, very few in number (sadly). Thanks George! Your interviews are actually informative and interesting to watch. Keep up the good work!!
Fantastic entertainer and a genuine all-around nutty artist. One of the pioneers of amalgamated music and video artistry. Thanks for being David Byrne, whoever you are!
David Byrne is one of the greatest.. ever.. David Byrne..I thank you, for inspiring me.. From when i was a child to present day.. Thank you for all the years of great art & music.. a 11 out of 10.. THE FAZEONES LOUNGE...
I am reading his "Bicycle Diaries" it's great, like almost everything he's touched. What a great artist. Yes the world need more people like David Byrne. Thanks for posting!
It's awesome to see an interview with David Byrne just being himself. Many times he'll fall into a sort of surreal character state, probably because he isn't enjoying the interview. As was previously stated, he seems comfortable here.
Great interview with an amazing artist. I loved THs, but I kinda take exception with the statement that it was the best thing he's ever done. His solo work is so great: Rei Momo, Uh-Oh, Look Into the Eyeball---all of them are fabulous. And, one of my all-time fave songs is his cover of Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In" (made famous by Roy Rogers) on 'Red, Hot & Blue'. Truly an icon. Thanks for posting this!
MOST other interviewers need to take notes from George S and his style. He's such a GOOD interviewer and engages every artist i've seen into a great conversation which results in awesome interviews to watch and listen to:)
Alessio Arzola if you can rely on wiki... David Byrne was born in Dumbarton, Scotland, to parents Tom (from Lambhill, Glasgow) and Emma. He was the elder of two children. Two years later, his parents moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and then to Arbutus, Maryland, in the United States, when he was 8 or 9 years old. You're not likely to keep an accent with that history... at least not from your preteens
David Byrne has asperger's and mild autism, but it seems much better controlled these days. Apparently back in the days he was extremely hard to work with because of it, and had all kinds of jitters and ticks.
Interesting what he said about having a folding bicycle when traveling so that he doesn't feel trapped in hotels, on tour etc. He looks like he's about to stand up and leave at any moment, for the first 8 minutes of the interview. Glad to see he's still creating music project. I will be checking out his collaboration with Brain Eno they mentioned.
Yo Yo got a story for you ,i guess your a Scot,as i am,i met David Bryne in Barcelona 95 and as a big fan of him i was talking with him about him being a Scot, told him i thought he should value his Scottish roots,so in 97 i was living in San Francisco and he was playing a concert solo,so i went along and he only wore a kilt that night,i was at the front of the stage giving him big thumps up and i was noted,A BIG PROUD MOMENT FOR THIS GLASGOW BOY😁 I also moved out as a boy early 70,s when they were moving us inner city kids into Easter houses etc etc.
Byrne doesn't like to stare or make prolonged eye contact with people you can see in this clip but that's because he reportedly has Asperberger's. He looks away or to the floor a lot to break the monotony. I know how it works since I also have it and I'm the same when talking to strangers.
it's so cute hearing him talk about how hes got to just fall into a new thing and hell go "yes! lets try that" while knowing 10 years down the line that's exactly how his movie about colorguard happened (':
I hope Byrne is asked to do a TED talk. He's definitely looped into Technology Engineering and Design in very creative ways. Whatever he chose to talk about, he'd be great at it I'm sure. "Designing by poetry" "world-music in the electronic age" "the bicycle centric city"
A real Artist with a capital "A", eccentric, original. Stop Making Sense is without doubt the greatest music video ever filmed that doesn't have Michael Jackson in it.
If the bike thing sounds interesting to you, David Byrne has produced a really Great book called 'cycle diaries.' Some really interesting ideas to get you out on your bike or to make you look differently at the place you live
check out the talking heads album "Naked." it was the end of their career, and David had basically usurped creative control of the band. Naked is a really amazing combination of what Talking Heads were and what David Byrne's solo stuff would become.
hey man, thanks. have just recently discovered byrne and his work. yeah, i know...where the hell was I?! got any other recommendations for work of his, the heads or any other artists?
@neworleansusan Eyecontact can be learned behaviour. I can do it, it just feels uncomfortable. Not being diagnosed doesn't have to mean anything either. I wasn't diagnosed until age 42. Oh it's called 'Asperger Syndrome' after Austrian psychiatrist Hans Asperger. The g is pronounced like g in gold.
First of all he is awesome... like i would love if he was my neighbor but then again i enjoy out of the box thinkers and people. Also David Byrne is the farthest thing from an a hole, ive personally gone to two of his live consorts and in one someone who wished to take pictures had their camera taken by security, David stop the consort yelled at the security to give the guy his camera back cause he said they could take pictures. Also one of my friends follows him on consort after about
He is right cycling gives a special sense of freedom... you'll go as far as your legs will bring you. You only rely on yourself. I moved to Amsterdam NL because of the bicycle culture LOL
I would do anything to get a hold of his music collection. Well, wouldn't it be nice: "David Byrne loses his MP3 player with his entire music collection and some fool finds it". Sweeeeeetttt!!!
David Byrne is a genius. The Talking Heads is and always will be one of my favorite bands of all time.
TALKING HEADS were a great band. You are correct.
