Your genuine excitement towards the new expansion is incredibly wholesome. There's just something about FFXIV that feels like coming home after a long day or hugging an old friend you haven't seen in awhile, and I am incredibly excited for Dawntrail. I hope you have a lot of fun too!
From the ashes we're REBORN To the HEAVENS as we ride Fighting through the STORM Leaving our SHADOWS far behind As we walk right to the END- All of the previous DLCs haha
Official lyrics are out, finally. Hungry Chad did a decent job picking out the lyrics. From the ashes we're reborn UNTO the heavens we ride Fighting through the storm Leaving our shadows far behind Having walked right to the end With one more trial we are faced Turn back, transcend Only we decide our fates
One thing I also love is when at the end the music loops back to part 1 It is as if the main cast has still ONLY been listening to that part while we as the player has had this vision of the future to come. A lot of this trailer is about how the cast experiences what is around them at the moment, As if this is unexplored territory they have yet to see. While the other expansion trailers are more about them already BEING or Having been at the destination and the music is telling the tale. Basically in the old trailers the characters are showing us the players what we're going to experience. But in this new trailer we're all experiening what is to come together.
I'm just going to take this video as a birthday present to me, thank you for posting it on my birthday. ;) ALL THE DAWNTRAIL HYPE I cannot wait! It's a totally different vibe than even with Endwalker. I love it, and I am so so so psyched. And I appreciate this breakdown of the theme - of course it's gotten flack because it's not BIG EPIC, it's 'pop,' it's upbeat, etc. But the lightness of all of it - not just genre, but like you were noting with the jumping/bouncing notes that give it the playful feel, everything primarily in a major key, nice bright instruments - the song just exuuuuudes an overwhelming feeling of happy and excitement and anticipation. Are you going for a new job?? :D
The vibe I get all throughout is obviously "summer vacation," but it's further broken up into different expressions of a vacation. You've got the Open Sky segments that sound an awful lot like a bunch of rowdy drunken folks shout-singing, you've got the fiery and festive flamenco dancing portion (love how that's the expansion's standard world battle music, BTW), and you've got that skipping glee during Amanda's section. Yet sprinkled around it is that little wisp of danger, but it's not a threat so much as an eager challenge to take on.
Been busy as heck. Missed you Marco. Top stuff as always. You're spot on with that excitement from that slight noise behind Esinien's words early on; absolutely brilliant stuff by Soken.
I had a very strong feeling through Endwalker that we were leaving a period of mythology. Spoilers for 6.0 here The fact that the star ship Ragnarok was powered by, presumably, the final incarnations of the Primals (and the two gods of the Ancients as well as the Ancients themselves had passed) It felt very much like a twilight of the gods, the end of the age of legend and the beginning of the age of mankind. We are all Lif and Lifthrasir, to continue to extend a metaphor. No more once upon a time.
Love watching Marco effortlessly dance around the obviously incredibly wrong lyrics and then segueing back into talking about the lyrics once they start making sense again LOL
Both on picture of one of locations there was buildings from FF9 and in trailer on background of fight with Eliminator there's presumably Castle of Alexandria
its like you said it, i love thematically how they manage the feeling that this expansion is like a summer adventure or the special beach episode. in things like the jobs, the ambience, background music and even the opening song. feels like its their way to tell you "the world is no going to end so its time to have some fun"
Watching you react to or well more like explain the music of the dawntrail trailers just sky rocketed my hype for the expansion even more! Stay awesome~
While I don't always catch every vid you upload, it's always a treat seeing you covering another ffxiv vid. Hope you've packed your bags for a summer vacation!
I've been playing through the game a second time with some friends that I got into the game, and since I've been tanking for them, it's given me the push I needed to finish levelling Gunbreaker to 90 on my main character as my first max level tank. Looking forward to seeing what new mechanics they put into the fights in Dawntrail!
A lot of people I know are saying they're skipping Dawntrail because of job balance and job design, which to me is heartbreaking because FFXIV is more than just the game's casual and hardcore duties. FFXIV is a moving soundtrack and a compelling story with lovable characters and a world that I just want to live in. As always, it's their choice to make, I just don't agree with it.
It doesn't have that dark and menacing vibe that Shadowbringers had, and I loved the spacey and tender sound of the Endwalkers launch trailer; And here the Dawntrail is telling a story with the music, with jungle-inspired jaunty music and a suggestion that we're journeying in unknown lands. My favourite part is the chorus, it sounds like it's giving tribute to someone who has courage and resolve, corresponding with scenes of combat in the trailer.
The second trailer you played starts off sounding a bit like a street party. Food stalls lining a bustling street while musicians and singers perform. People eat, drink, and dance the night away without a care in the world. It truly is a break from the darkness, tension, sadness from the past two expansions. There will still be mysteries to solve and fights to get into, but it still feels fun; a contest between rivals that's still part of the festivities.
No, don't look it up until you finished the expansion. The video contains footage from the very last dungeon of DT and even the name of it and the first screen is a massive spoiler.
Actually, I have a feeling this may be inspired by multiple ancient civilizations from Central & South America. There is a lot of Incan-based influence I see more than Aztec. Their city however, definitely feels like the Aztec capital imo XD.
Yo, idk where else to put suggestions than here, but I'd love to see how you react to some Homestuck music. While homestuck is not a video game, it's contents have heavy video game inspirations and mechanics. Homestuck itself is a web comic written and drawn (mostly) by Andrew Hussie. It depicts a group of kids playing a game that ends the world, simple (this is a lie, but I'd like to avoid spoilers). The music made for the comic was more so for the flash animations that served as climatic moments of the story, where dialouge was not needed and many actions needed to happen quickly. The music is almost entirely made by the community that surrounded the comic when it was ongoing, with some names floating around that would get their chance in the spotlight later (like Toby fox) Anyway, the music made for the comic is quite something. While most of it went unused, about 6-7 volumes were made and approved by Andrew, with each song being surrounding a specific location, character, or concept within the comic. As for what I recommend to check out first, I would look at maybe Sunslammer or Moonsetter privately to sort of dip your toes in. They aren't the best of all the tracks, but certainly aren't the worst either. As for what to watch on camera (if your intrigued of course) then "At the Price of Oblivion", "Suburban Jungle", and "Black" are all good picks. I could recommend more, but this is already a paragraph and a half long, and some songs would be better to view with their respective flash and context. Oh yeah, if you are looking for something more visual, then the song "Rex Duodecim Angelus" has a cannonised fan animation made using it as inspiration. While context for what is happening is not expressly needed to understand the song or animation, and technicly the animation bears no major spoilers, due to the Nate of homestucks setting it can be very confusing to people who don't know what they are getting into. Either way, I hope you at least look at some of these songs, video or not.
Hey Marco I really appreciate your videos! So wholesome to watch your excitement :D Too bad im not playing on us worlds ._. would love to play together with you and hang around :D
Hey Macro the next time you cover a Monster Hunter theme, can you PLEASE check out Dire Miralis’ theme? It’s called The Vast Ocean Set Ablaze. There’s also a really underrated game called Highfleet and it’s also got a really interesting soundtrack. If you see this comment could you also check out Tanc A Lelek from Highfleet?
Tbf, if Solution 9 is indeed a virtual world like the Matrix, WoL power can definitely be nerfed in story standpoint. It's not like we have access to Endwalker power anytime we want.

What I have to do to support my family has nothing to do with my content and everything to do with your perception of who I am because with respect: you don’t actually know me. How you choose to fault someone for wanting to take care of himself is more a reflection of you than of me. I have bills, debts, family goals, and aspirations just like you do if you’re of a certain age. I’d kindly remind you to consider that when you cast the stone of shame. All the best though - appreciate your support and hope you’ll be able to navigate this because I’m still here doing my thing with the integrity I carry as a man in the world trying to do what’s right for himself and his family.👍 and if you’re not of an age where you have responsibilities like a family or debt I hope you will remember when it’s time that sometimes you’ll do whatever it takes, within your moral and ethical code, to support yourself and those you love. at this point, the Epic of the Warrior of Light is easily one of the greatest tales in video gaming history, a modern age version of the Odyssey.

Something that might be of particular interest to you is the launch trailer uses the melody from the opera scene in ff6.
yea this expansion seems to take after FF9 and FF6
I watched it again just listening to the music and i can't hear it. Except maybe like 2-3 notes but I wouldn't call it the opera's melody.

It’s great that you pointed out the correlation between word painting by Amanda and by Krile showing off the Pictomancer class
!SPOILER!
It really plays into the whole Azem traveller vibe too. He's doing exactly what Emet wanted him to do, explore.
Started doing so since 6.1 and the 13th
Whatever that final music piece is is so emotionally impactful, its got so much power and emotion behind it I NEED to know where it is
Amanda sang the pictomancer bit? Awesome!

hope to see some streams from you after the main hype wave moves on.
"Is Krile from Solution Nine?" What a fortune teller.
Man, all the new areas, new actions, being a Pictomancer. I can't wait to see how much sweet puncing Monk action I can get into

That rhythm used in the first bit of the trailer feels like it lifts from Hills of the Radiant Winds on the Nier Replicantt OST.

"Our time to shine" just as the new female Hrothgar is shown off. Can't be a coincidence can it?

The DT music evokes FFIX vibes
