Can't Balance the DJI Ronin-SC Gimbal? Here's an EASY way!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 сер 2019
- If you're having trouble balancing your mirrorless camera on the DJI Ronin-SC, this might just be the video that helps you.
I had lots of trouble at the beginning, but I've figured it out! It doesn't take long, and you can actually do it on the run in no time at all.
I haven't had a lot of time to play with the gimbal, but will report my findings in a later video.
Please leave a comment if you find this video helpful.
I never thought a guy that doesn’t know the names of the axis motors would be able to break this down better than most “pros” on the internet. Thanks man!
Thanks bro. Sometimes thinking simple and not being a “pro” makes it easier to understand. Appreciate your support
This was the best tutorial for balancing the Ronin out of all the tutorials I wasted time watching! Thank you!
You're welcome! How are you otherwise enjoying your Ronin?
@@DerekChaiMedia so simple to use!
The only drawback I guess is that it’s quite bulky . But great steady footage is the reward
This video is so clear, concise and brilliant. Ronin should really pay you and have this as an official tutorial - their one is nowhere near as clear, and it's much longer!
Thank you for your kind words! It’s very much appreciated 🙏
Went through a thousand videos. Just needed one person that wasn’t going for just the views and actually cared. Thank you 😢
I’m glad I could help. Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Four days lost to this until I found your video. Infinitely more useful than DJI content. Nervous breakdown now averted.
You’re so welcome! I hope you enjoy using your gimbal. Happy creating 😁
I wasted hours watching other videos and finally got mine to work! Thank you so much!
You're welcome! It can be a little hard to get right
I tried quite a few hours to balance my gimbal and couldn't make it. After watching this video I managed in the first time in a few minutes. Great video, short and to the point. Thank you very much !!!!
I’m so glad that I could help. There’s nothing more frustrating that spending time working out how to setup your gear rather than being able to go out and use your gear! How are you finding the gimbal?
My goodness you saved me. After hours and getting repeated errors on the test, it was having all axis unlocked that kept yielding errors. After my first test after hearing you say have them unlocked, it worked like a charm!
I’m so glad I could be of help. That is the reason why UA-cam exists 😊
thank you. out of all the videos i watched, yours finally fixed my pan re-balance error message.
Glad I could help 😊
That's much easier (& makes more sense than the DJI videos). Thanks Derek!
You're welcome. I hope you get the most out of your gimbal!
Best Ronin SC tutorial ever!!! Thanks!!
I appreciate your support. I’m glad I could help
Thank you!! I was having the same issue and couldn’t figure out why! Your video helped!!
I'm glad! It's a little bit complicated until you figure it out..
Absolutely the best video on the topic. I found this vid back in 2019 and in the first try, gimble was successfully balanced. Then, the Covid came and never used it until last week in Dubai. I had forgotten how to balance it with a new lense. I wasted half day and in the end, I just left in the hotel and used my iPhone instead. Now, it came into suggestions and again, in the first attempt I balanced it in 5 minutes. 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you so much!
Thank you! This was the best and most helpful tutorial.
I’m really happy it helped! Happy creating!
Straight to the point … Thank you Derek!
You’re welcome. I hoped this helped you
Thank You i found this one. It neither saved my lots of time but also its probably the best among those bunch of videos out there with so much technical terms and all. Thanks man....
Thanks for your support 🙏
Holds down the best video out there for balancing! Thank you
Thank you for your kind comment and support
I cant believe that Ronin thought it would be wise to use a video instructional video in a different language with subtitles would suffice, I sent my RSC2 back after two days after spending hours getting frustrated trying to balance the damn thing, your video would have been very helpful.
Thank you.I’m sorry about all the hassle you had. It’s not good enough for a big tech company to be like that
Definitely one of the best tutorials out there. Great job!
Thank you for your support 😀
Helpful. The 3 axes you calibrated are tilt, roll and pan. Picked that from the DJI video which is more technical. You kept it quite simple. Thanks :)
You’re welcome. It’s always best to keep things as simple as possible 😄
Omg thank you so much!!! after several hours of watching other videos yours was the ONE!!! Thank you!! Got excellent on all three axis!
You’re very welcome! 🙏
Best video - although my gimbal is a weebill s - this kinda applied - so following your steps made it so easy - thank you sir
You're very welcome. I'm glad I could help.
Much better explained than others i have seen and others also never mentioned the final autotune. Thanks
You’re welcome. How r u liking the gimbal?
@@DerekChaiMedia i'll be honest with you. i have had it over a year and was afraid of it as i'm not techy as the balancing etc scared me. Now i'm using it i really love it and it is providing very smooth video movement and the barrel roll is cool. I am really looking forward to using it a lot more now.
@@MarriedToTheKGB That’s great. Exactly why you bought it in the first place 😀
Thank you 🙏🏽 so much! This was honestly the best tutorial I’ve seen. For some reason I was able to get it all squared away with your video but had major issues with other videos. Blessings brother!
Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad it helped
Thank you Derek. Watched over 6 videos and none of them mentioned about locking and only unlock the ones you working on - it makes a huge difference. Took me two days to figure this thank you for sharing the video!
You're very welcome Virginia. I'm glad I was able to help. Have a great day. I look forward to seeing your work
Aye Derek had this thing for 2 years you just helped save me… thank you.
Mate... BEST tutorial! saved sooo much time thank you so much
Thanks dude!
This one is the perfect balancing video for ronin sc. Thank you.
You’re welcome. It’s always good to make things easier 😁
Thank you man! Tomorrow is my brothers wedding and you saved my life!!!!!!
Wow! Thx! I don’t know how but I’ll take the credit. Hope he has a great day! Enjoy 😉
@@DerekChaiMedia I should make the wedding video with the gimble but it always dies because the motor isnt strong enough. The problem was the tilt axis. Your video was the only one where one really understand what to do to calibrate it
Thanks bro! Hope you’re having a great day 😀
Very good . thankyou i didnt follow the other tutorials but this worked really well.. never had EXCELLENT on all parameters! thankyou
Hi Trevor! You're welcome! A lot of folks seem to find it really frustrating trying to balance the gimbal. I'm glad I could help. Have a great day!
Make sure you take the lens cap off and set the lens to the zoom level you want before balancing because these things will change the balance of the camera
That's a great tip Luke! I didn't have to do that on mine because I was using the 10-18mm, and it doesn't really extend
Great instruction. Very simple and easy to setup the Dji Ronin SC. Thanks
I’m glad I could help 😀. Thank you for your support. How are you enjoying your Robin?
Derek Chai Media I’m doing fine. thanks. I’m still learning all the tricks from DJI Ronin SC.
Tuan Tran it’s a great gimbal. There is a lot you can do with it. I personally haven’t had as much time to play with it as I thought I would. One day.... 😃
Derek Chai Media thanks for the reply.
This saved my day 🙏
I’m glad I was of help 😀
Thank you.Got me up and running great job.
I’m glad 🙂

Does ronin sc work with canon m50 with big lenses such as tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 with Viltrox?
I don’t have this lens, but there is a compatibility list I found: dl.djicdn.com/downloads/Ronin_SC/Ronin_SC_Camera_Compatibility_List_en.pdf. Might be something similar?
nice easy tutorial (low key ..I like that)
Thank you. Appreciate it 🙏🏻
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
You’re very welcome 😊
Thank you so much!! So very helpful!!!
I’m so glad I could help. The setup can be a bit frustrating
I can’t get mine to stay pointing straight up when I’m doing the tilt axis the arm is moving but it needs to move back even further I feel like but it’s still falling forward no matter what I do the lens just always wants to point forward in a normal resting position and not stay straight pointing up towards the sky. I’m using a 6300 with a Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS
I'm sorry to hear that. The only advice I can provide is to keep trying. Sometimes, it can get very frustrating. Watch from around 4:00 and see if that helps
This worked.
I’m glad I could help 😁
thank you!!!!!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching
Your fridge is amazing :)
Huh?
@@DerekChaiMedia when you film something try not to include extra sounds. You’re fridge is buzzing for the entire video. But the explanation is ok.

@@DerekChaiMedia i have question sir why my ronin sc keeps sleeping but already balanced,do i have to connect the cable from the sc to my camera.im using canon eos m2. .thank you
@@StvnRon I will take a look at mine when I have a chance and see if it does the same
the goat
No, just doing my best. Thank you though
This was super useful BUT...I am still unable to balance the camera when the lense is pointed toward the ceiling...any advice would be helpful.
You need to follow the instructions precisely. It’s a little bit temperamental. Make sure all the other axes are locked. And make sure the sliding plate that the camera sits on is locked and balanced too.
You’re a fucken legend I love u
I love u too 😀
Thank you so much. Will definitely Italy subscribe to your channel
Thank you so much for your support!
I did the same things but sometimes it's vibrant when shooting , I use a mobile phone setup and wireless camera but it happens for both of them
Do you mean vibrating? Maybe your camera setup is too light?
Does the gimbal have to be on when you are balancing the camera??? Mine doesn’t seem to balance when the gimbal is off
Only when you are connecting to your phone for the final step. It’s all about getting the 3 axes balanced without any other things going on. Hope that helps
@@DerekChaiMedia it does! Thank you!
@@kamrafilms9127 you’re welcome 😊
I’m having trouble sliding the camera into the gimball platform thing; I got it used so
I’m wondering if I’m missing a part
Hopefully not. There is a little metal things that pokes out of the attachment which is spring loaded. Also check the manual to make sure all your parts are there- dl.djicdn.com/downloads/Ronin_SC/Ronin_SC_User_Manual_v1.0_en.pdf
@@DerekChaiMedia thank you I have been able to achieve this, I don’t have a manual but you’ve been a great help
@@eclipseshadowyt5917 Enjoy your gimbal! Look forward to seeing some of your work
I have tried several times and everything is great until the gimbal is trying to balance test.....it goes into standby...or at least the test ends abruptly and then when I go to retest it says that the motor is. on standby. Does anyone know how to work around this?
I haven’t had this issue. Maybe someone else here in the comments can help?
Hey derek, i am currently attempting to balance my sony GH4 camera and i am having a very hard time. Compatibility is not an issue. Whenever i try to balance it the back plate will hit the tilt axis and so it cant move downwards
Have u followed the exact order of balancing the axes? Make sure that everything else is secured right before moving on
I tried 7 hours to get the ronin sc working today to bo avail. Still get an error with 2 of the three axis. DAMN. This is the 2nd day ive tried to get it balanced with my mirorless lightweight camera.
I'm sorry about you troubles. It's horrible. Anyway, here is what I found works. Make sure you only unlock the axis that you're trying to balance. Once it's done, lock it back and move to the next one. Start with balancing it so the camera faces forward, and then tilt it so the lens points straight up and adjust the arm. Put it back to facing forward and then lock the axis. Remember how far the camera is forward based on that little marker on the side (which you can use to lock the forward / backward movement). Then do the second axis (the roll), and then lock that one back. Then finish with the pan, and lock that. Once you're connected, you have to unlock all 3 axes, and then do the test. Best of luck!
Nerd Master u her get that fixed? I’m in the same boat
Which bit isn’t working? Can I help?
Derek Chai Media everything is good but the pan axis. When I tilt its fine but when I test it isn’t. I saw a review saying it might be to light? Sony a6000 with 16-50mm lens
I know you’ve probably done this, but make sure all the other axes are locked except for the one you’re trying to balance. One of the axis requires adjustments of 2 parts. And make sure you have the latest update installed as apparently some people are having issues with older versions.
I have a Canon 6d and 24-70 lense I think it’s too heavy for this gimbal.
Are you using the 2.8? I don’t own this lens, but looking at the DJI ronin compatibility chart, it might be too heavy. But it seems the f4 version is fine. Do you use any other lenses with the gimbal?
Sir I have also ronin rc have you experienced that the gimbal spin wildly after powering it on, and the app shows red battery but its full. I hope you can help me....
I have not had this experienced this. Has it suddenly started doing this but was normal before?I know you’ve probably tried these but: make sure everything is calibrated. Is the camera that same one you’ve always had on it? Are all the axes unlocked? The only time mine has spun wildly is when I put a camera on it that was too light, and once when it was miscalibrated because the screw in the camera mounting plate was loose. Let me know what you’ve tried
I got it from a friend, he gave it to me because he bought a rc2. It was used on diff camera and now I'm mounting my m5O. I tried all on your video and still the same. He said that try resetting it to factory settings but in the app there's no reset button. The calibration alway failed. Even the joy stick on the gimbal is unresponsive....
@@DerekChaiMedia UPDATE: I have finally solved it ( partially) So I reinstalled the app and everything works. But it ask me to update the firmware and I update it. Then I got Firmware error. 😅😅😅 I retried it several time but it keeps giving me firmware update error... Now I'm stock in 3 blinking red lights. Firmware downgrade doesn't work either. Cannot connect either to PC... I'm so frustrated... 😭
@@Jigztvfigs At least it's working for you. I have found that sometimes firmware updates are troublesome. Try resetting the phone and gimbal and try again. Best wishes
The wire from the handle to the camera needs to be longer... Do many problems came from that wire being chokingly short
I’ve not had an issue with this.
I RECOMMEND YOU TAKE YOUR LENS LID OFF OF BEFORE CALIBRATION
In my experience, with a normal lens cap, it doesn't really make any difference to the calibration
I use EOS 7D camera, what is the recommended cable that can connect to Ronin SC to remote record?
Thanka
Hi. Thanks for reaching out. I don't own a Canon EOS 7D, but the cable you would need would be a USB-C to ? mini USB (you'd need to check with the right port for your camera body). I'm not sure if the included cables will fit- you'd have to try. It also depends on the weight of your lens as the DSLR is quite heavy. Some same that the Ronin-S is a better bet for a big camera. Let me know how you go.
@@DerekChaiMedia
I use 85 fix lens and it's still ok., I just need to make the camera record connection from DJI RONIN SC directly,
for EOS 7D use a mini USB port. not type c
thank you for the response!
JACKAL09 the USB-C end plugs into the gimbal and then you should be able to record / stop record using the gimbal controls
I just get a blinking green light and the gimbal does not work🤯help!
I’m sorry. I’ve not experienced this issue. Have you contacted DJI support? Hopefully they can help
@@DerekChaiMedia i got it figured out. Thanks though😁
@@joelcaraballo1417 I’m glad 😀
What I needed to know is what to do if it doesn't say excellent which is what the title of this vid was inferring
I’m sorry you’re having trouble. Which axis is not balancing properly?
I also have an EOS R but no matter what it ALWAYS fails the balance test even though each axis is perfectly balanced.
Make sure you lock all the other axes when balancing each one, and unlock all of them at the end. It does work. The other thing is the dang sliding plate thing because it controls 2 axes. Let me know
And do exactly as in the video in that order and you should be ok 😀
@@DerekChaiMedia Unfortunately I've done all of those steps 100 times. I have experience with balancing gimbals and I've gotten this one to work quickly with a Sony 6400, but it refuses to pass the test with the EOS R. I'm on the brink of returning it.
I have an EOS R also. What lens are you using ? It’s weird that it works with the A6400 and not the Canon. If it seems balanced, can u actually use it even though it says test failed?
@@DerekChaiMedia I finally figured it out! It was my fault BUT I think the Ronin app could be redesigned to avoid this. I was simply forgetting to Auto Tune before running the test. I did that and everything finally worked.
You forgot to take the lens cap off.
Wasn't planning on shooting with the camera, just demonstrating how to balance the gimbal. And the lens cap wouldn't significantly affect the balance of the gimbal. Thanks for watching!
