wow we have really similar journeys with university. I also went to university for animation with the idea that I wanted to be a character designer and quickly felt like I just wasn’t good enough upon seeing the artists around me. After graduation I got a job in graphic design for sports apparel (what i’m currently doing but is not my dream job) and didn’t draw characters for a few years. I really gave up on my dreams. But over the past year I started drawing again and i’m so happy because i’m drawing for me and I accepted that pursing my dream is going to take time, the art industry is really tough. I was always thinking “I have to draw character sheets with turn arounds and expressions and prop design” and I would overthink it and stress myself out. So now i’m drawing whatever I feel like drawing and i’ve improved so much in a short period of time. It feels good to know that you started in a similar place because your art is such a huge inspiration for me!! The way you felt about Alessandro is the way I feel when I look at your art. Do you ever do critiques on your patreon? I would LOVE feedback from you!!

Hi Victoria! It is really cool to hear from another artist who has a similar journey! Thank you for commenting and telling your story! And you don’t know how happy it makes me to hear that you find my work inspiring!! Ahh! I’m blushing!

I quite often feel like a total failure when I think back on how I spent a good decade of my life trying to make art a business. I also went to uni for animation, but the course barely taught us anything relevant. I live in a country and timezone that is not good for remote work, and really just couldnt find local work because the industry collapsed and vanished. Then I got hit with chronic pain in my early 30s. I have been trying to get back into drawing again, as im hoping to do commissions soon, and its just been so nice to draw again, even if it causes me pain. I became very inspired by your artwork to try again, so thank you for putting your work out into the world :)

I just got out of college with a bachelors in Fine arts. I'm coming into terms that its very hard to even find a job in my field--The college hardly gave me info on what to do or expect after school. Right now, im trying to find my style cause in school, we had to basically do the teachers style or else we fail. Very hard and unfair.
Working on a website and portfolio and trying to get my name out there for commission work and prints.
Just trying to keep my spirits up cause it feels like im starting over at this point even with a degree 😮‍💨

Omigoodness, this is a story I hear a lot from artists after they graduate from school with an art degree. Most art programs really do a poor job of preparing and instructing students on what to expect after graduating and how to navigate getting into the professional art world.

@@ChrissaBug It's really a horror. As of now, I'm trying to work as a freelancer but even so, I dont know how to start other than working on myself first because all of this is very overwhelming. Artists like you is what I aspire to be and hopefully one day I can.

My pleasure. TBH, I wasn't sure if anyone would be really interested in it and I feel really self conscious talking so much about myself but it makes me really happy to hear that it inspires some hope!

Haven’t you gotten some work helping promote certain digital art hardware and software tools? Are you including that under “sponsorships”?
