    Adjust Pedal Height in F100
    Adjust Pedal Height in F100 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972
    Episode 500
    Autorestomod
I have nearly run into two cars driving the F100 recently. The pedal is not set at “normal” pedal height on the 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 F100 F250 F350. This we think is due to the industrial nature of the trucks. The cabs were used all the way up to the F700 series.
We grabbed a pedal out of a ‘71 F100 at our local salvage yard. You could find one possibly in some of the Facebook groups dedicated to the F100 or places like Fordification if you are unlucky enough to have zero old school salvage yards at your disposal.
    1. '73-'79 pedal pivot brackets will NOT bolt up into a '67-'72 truck without major dash modifications.
    2. '73-'79 pedals will not easily fit the '67-'72 pedal pivot bracket.
Some grinding can be done to make the the '73-'77 pieces fit, but the '78-'79 pedals will just plain not work.
    3. (Some) '78-'79 power brake boosters will NOT fit '67-'72 trucks. The '73-'77 versions will fit just fine.
    4. '78-'79 power brake boosters will only fit '73-'77 trucks if the '73-'77 brake pedal is also used.
    5. 1967 trucks use a one-year-only pivot bracket and booster combination.

    I had a 75 f100 4x4. It was a 360 c6 203 full time 4x4. I wanted to change it. I found a doner truck that was a 67 f100 4x4. I made my 75 a 390 NP435 4spd w/ Dana 21 one spd part time 4x4 & took the pedal assembly & it worked fine in my 75. Also I put a 79 cab on the frame so the 67 pedal assembly worked fine in a 79 cab. No probs. Direct bolt in.

  • @tombryant1104
    @tombryant1104 3 роки тому

Moving the master cylinder forward 1/4" to maybe 3/8" will lower pedal noticeably(depending on application, may be easier said than done). Of course if you're dealing with power brakes, the whole assembly must move forward. If needed, a double nutted bolt would extend the stop for brake light switch.
Eons ago I installed a '70 Torino booster support bracket in my '69(didn't have a '69 bracket to match Bendix booster). Raised pedal close to two inches, was all but undrivable. Finally redrilled Midland bracket to match Bendix bolt pattern.

I know exactly what you mean about the height of that brake pedal. There were many
occasions where i had to brake in a hurry in my 72 and almost rear ended the vehicle
in front of me. Another thing that used to drive me nuts is the way the steering column
comes up at an angle towards the drivers side window, and not straight out at you.

I was an ASE master at one time and every time I worked on a Ford I was constantly asking Why, why,why about all the oddities and often another phrase that starts with W when it was a really bad design issue... Ford also loved to use obscure wrench and socket sizes on bolts that no other car company used and then if it was a bolt with a head they were both different sizes.... I guess the ford techs could only afford one set of wrenches back then.
But I will say that brake pedals on many cars today is not always better. Many almost cover the gas pedal with the brake pedal. And there was that time I was driving a 67 Baja bug and my foot got caught between the gas pedal and the floor tunnel. I ran off the road to avoid hitting the car in front of me and nearly ended up stuck in a ditch.
